Upon entering the exam room, the doctor's verbal and physical mannerisms felt brash and uncaring. I showed him the areas requiring treatment, yet he insisted that I personally mark all of the treatment areas myself, stating, "I don't care how your legs look," before leaving the room. Regardless of intent, such a statement was inappropriate and lacked the empathy and professionalism patients deserve from a physician. When I calmly expressed that his manner seemed unkind, rather than addressing the concern or offering clarification, he cancelled my appointment altogether. Personal frustrations, if present, should never influence patient care or the overall clinical experience. Unfortunately, this visit fell far below the standard of professionalism and bedside manner I had anticipated and previously experienced.

The previous day I was at the gym and that morning i was in the ER with a huge clot in my groin area and possibly a few minutes away from things going completely downhill. I was going through treatment for a so-called calf muscle tear by a so-called experienced orthopedic surgeon who completely misdiagnosed the situation. And on the evening of March 7th, I was at the gym when my leg swelled real bad, almost double the size. Long-story short I had to be rushed to the ER the next day where Dr. Herscu was the Vascular Surgeon on duty. I thank God every day since for having me there in his presence that day. Dr. Herscu is a very pleasing personality with incredible bedside manners. Doctors seldom teach you in terms that you can understand. Be assured that you will not only understand your situation better, but will also be heard completely. Most doctors like to see their watch and want to get done as soon as possible. Dr. Herscu is different in every sense. His skill and knowledge is shown not just in his office, but also in the OR. He is so confident with what needs to be done, what he is doing and what has been done. Only one small concern is sometimes if you have to use both the SF Facility and the Daly City one (she has two locations depending on the procedure), ensure your insurance company does not confuse the location as this caused confusion for me, the staff and others (issues about being in network and then a denial, etc.). This was all cleared up. The procedures are all minimally invasive, short, and you are back on your feet almost instantly. The doctor speaks with you during the procedure, time flies and next thing you know it is over. Also the good thing she is a provider that takes PPO, HMO and most others so hope this helps in your search/this review.

I am a returning patient from a decade ago--she does not disappoint. She gave a thorough review after returning my phone calls and made the injections PAINLESS. She goes over and above so you get a full treatment. She is super cool and keeps you talking to focus on other things. Adriana comes in afterwards to help put on your compression stockings. Bring your own or buy them there (same price as a decade ago!) Adriana MA is also the office manager as she has been with Dr. A for 15 years. Super cool and answers any additional Q's in addition to post care instructions. Jeff is in the IT dept--fast responder and sends you whatever you need via email! Carmen MA (A-dorable! Always happy & smiling!) also works the front desk and speaks Chinese fluently. Biehn is in the remote call center and returns calls ASAP. This is a tight crew with a high level of service. Tips for first timers: get pre-treatment instructions, wear loose pants (to fit over compression stockings), shower and shave (no lotions! Stockings must stay on for 24 hours), leave extra time for parking if the Hayes Street lot is full. Take the stairs if the elevator is out. If these injections cure the leg pain I will be writing my insurance company! If not, Dr. A is a pro and knows where to refer patients. Managing veins and leg pain is very important work. The procedure/surgery was performed in early May and I have completed my 3 month blanking period and just saw him in follow-up. I couldn't be more pleased that I am lucky enough to have him as my electro-cardiologist. While I am sure there are many very capable electro-cardiologists out there, Dr. Kang is, by reputation and personal experience, a cut above. What he does is part science and part art - you either got it or you don't and he's got it. I am hopeful that my AFib is gone for good but I am grateful for the time and effort he put into my surgery and it's so far favorably outcome. He is also a good communicator and actually follows his patients. It certainly helps that he has such high caliber PAs at his group. Messages through the Sutter app are promptly responded to with the responses typically complete and informative. I have had office visits with just a PA and leave feeling like I saw a Cardiologist such is the caliber and training of the PA staff there. Even the medical assistants are top notch. Frankly, you can't go wrong with any of the cardiologists at this group right across the street from Summit Alta Bates Hospital in Oakland but they have a couple of real stars in Dr. Kang and my regular cardiologist, Dr. Johnson. Prior review: I was recently referred to Dr. Kang by my cardiologist for an ablation that is upcoming in May. I have only praise for his clear and forthcoming responses and guidance in my two pre-surgical office visits. He is engaging, empathetic and clearly an expert in his field - every one of my Doctors speaks glowingly of him as well. I feel fortunate to have managed to be one of his patients.

The receptionist was super nice, I was able to get an appointment that very day and once I came in everyone was so nice. They quickly got me inside and the nurse was very nice and attentive to all my symptoms. The doctor is quite the funny guy he cracks jokes as soon as he walks in, which is awesome but also I feel like it stops him from listening to me and taking me seriously but at the same time was funny enough to make me feel comfortable. He sent me away with some antibiotics and some lab work. I didn't get my lab results back until about a week later (even tho I remember him saying I would get them 2 days later) and when I called nobody got back to me I had to call again and speak to the receptionist directly. Overall I would recommend this office the receptionist/nurse is great the doctors pretty good. No real complaints but also nothing crazy.
