DH and I finally had the opportunity to dine at Prost. I was able to get a table in the beer garden. I'm glad we had reservations, as both inside and outside were full. Plus, there were a few walk-ins and they had to wait a bit. The beer garden had a lively atmosphere. There's a bar with about 8-10 barstools. I would like to sit there the next time. We ordered the pretzels (two in an order) that came with two dipping sauces. One was beer mustard and the other a cheese sauce (our favorite). The pretzels were excellent! I've had doughy pretzels, but these were light in texture with a nice crispy outside. I ordered the chicken paprikash that came with egg noodles; DH Ordered the pork schnitzel, jager style, that came with red cabbage,and spatzle. Both dishes were very good. The schnitzel was not overcooked; the chicken very tender. I didn't think it was the best chicken paprikash I've had but I did enjoy it. Next time I'll order the schnitzel. Other appetizers that sounded great were the potato pancakes, crispy Brussel sprouts and roasted mushroom soup. I'd like to come back soon, as they also have a nice selection of sandwiches. We wanted something different while out in Wilmington and this restaurant hit the spot. The Kielbasa was really good and I definitely recommend getting the spatzle if you're looking for something different. They also have a pretty unique, German inspired draft menu. We also got pretzels as an appetizer and be warned, the mustard is extremely spicy. It tastes like it's mixed with wasabi but it tastes good with very small dips. There are 2 entrances, one on front street and one on the side with a paid private parking lot ($9/hr). The one on the side is where we sat, where half of it has an open roof, an open garage door, communal seating, and a bar. There is also communal sitting in the front of the restaurant. Someone had their dog at the bar so I guess you could bring dogs to the bar. The decor is cute with the lights, plants, and rustic style brick walls. All of the food was great! We started off with potato pancakes (2 pieces, $7), which came with applesauce and fresh chives sour cream. The potatoes were crispy, and I liked the thinly sliced onions in them. The applesauce was delicious, tasted homemade. For entrees we had the traditional bratwurst ($12), which comes with beer mustard, sauerkraut in a pretzel bun, housemade seasoned chips on the side and the Pork schnitzel ($16, also has a chicken option), which came with braised cabbage with caraway seeds, housemade spatzle, served with dill sour cream and lemon slices. The pork schnitzel was thin and crispy, breaded perfectly. For dessert, we tried the German blueberry cake ($8) and apples strudel ($10). The cake was soft, moist, not super sweet. I loved the crumble topping. The apple strudel was served room temperature, I would've preferred it warm, but it was still tasty with the vanilla bean ice cream. Didn't try the mixed drinks, but it's cool they had drinks made with aquafaba (the hoff and au weidersen kaffe). The bartenders Andrew and Hailey were great serving us. I've been to Prost a handful of times and have been satisfied every time. I loved the bar it used to be so when that closed I was disappointed, but enjoying Prost has eased that disappointment. I've gone for drinks, dates, group meals, and meals with a parent and everyone has left fairly happy. I'm a vegetarian so German food isn't typically the most appealing for me, but Prost has done a good job with their vegetarian offerings. My favorite menu is their pretzel, followed closely by the brussels sprouts. I'm not a mustard person, but their mustard has just the right amount of kick that is addictive. I've gotten one of the vegetarian sandwiches, one of the vegetarian bratwursts, and a handful of other items and all have been good, if not wonderful. They have a varied drink menu, from cocktails to mocktails to beer to wine so everyone leaves happy. Looking forward to my next trip in. read more

I was pleasantly surprised during my visit to Prost. It is a Biergarten however they have an excellent culinary menu with excellent happy hour deals and daily specials. Their pretzels and beer cheese are outstanding, but don't sleep on their homemade mustard, it is spicy and packs a punch. The brat was served on a pretzel bun and topped with kraut and their homemade mustard. As a happy hour special it was $10 and for the quality it was a heck of a deal. Came here on a Sunday for brunch! We were able to find parking across the street and it is free on Sundays which is nice! Workers were nice. My friend and I decided to eat outside on the patio because it was a nice day outside. The patio is so cute with a really nice atmosphere. Lots of nice plants and decor. We split the pretzel. It was different than a most pretzels with a crispy outside and the beer cheese was very good. I then got a Kielbasa that came with cheese and peppers and onions. I really enjoyed it. We came here for lunch on a Sunday and sat outside. The atmosphere is incredible. The music was great. We both got a beer on tap and shared the onion dip to start. The drinks and app were at our table in under 5 minutes. Our server was quick, knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. I ordered off the appetizer menu for my meal and was not disappointed. Always wanted to try this restaurant. Arrived it was a little early for lunch , the restaurant was deserted, there may have been some patrons on the patio , I don't know. The decor of the restaurant is neat, the staff are friendly and attentive. We were seated promptly, given menus and the drink menus were already on the table . They have a nice selection of items to choose from. The Roasted Mushroom Soup served with crème fraishe called out to me. It was a coolish day , a good day for soup. And the Traditional Bratwurst, comes with haus beer mustard and kraut comes on a pretzel bun ,with haus made chips or french fries. I opted for no mustard and the chips. A Beet Salad , roasted beets , goat cheese, arugula and dijon vin was ordered. While we waited several patrons came in and went to the patio. Our food came out fairly fast . The mushroom soup came out first . It was warm, seasoned well , plenty of firm , not soggy mushrooms. On top it had slivered green onions, I believe parsley and crispy onion. The soup was perfect for the day. Then the main lunch arrived.The bratwurst was warm and flavorful, however a little over done. The chips were amazing - perfectly seasoned, and a huge pile of them. The beet salad looked wonderful, the cooked beets were hidden in the arugula. The shaved beets had crunch and the cooked beets were tender and not overcooked. The arugula with the vinaigrette, I found to be very pleasant. However my lunch companion felt it was too salty. Interesting experience- can't count the times I've been in Germany nor the total time in country - a lot. The schnitzel & spatzle was right one, but the reb cabbage was a complete fail ... like they forgot the vinegar. Worst reb cabbage I have ever been served. Pretzels are right in and so it the mustard and melted cheese that are condiments for the pretzels. My wife had the Reuben- which she said was good but the appearance of the bread was that of Rye/pumpernickel ... but it had the taste Ordinary bread. First, I've read all the reviews here and after visiting this restaurant I have to say some of the negative reviews don't get the intention nor the practicality. They were al dente and bacony , is that a word. She thoroughly enjoyed them. She also ordered the red cabbage as a side. The reviews were not so nice about the cabbage. And they are wrong. It is as german as you can get. If you don't like caraway don't get this. It may be too german for you. I ordered the schnitzel patty melt. A real fusion dish. Crispy pork schnitzel with caramelized onions, mushrooms, cheese wrapped up in rye bread with a dijon aioli. Incredible. The only thing I would change is I would use a german brown mustard. Just my preference. But just be assured it was all good. The beers were great also. Which is good being its a beer garden. Eastern NC is truly lacking in German food options and while Prost is a bit of a self-described German-American mashup, it certainly fulfilled our German food cravings. The decor is unique and fun and they have an excellent outdoor Biergarten area. They have a nice selection of draft beers and cans/bottles as well as wine and mixed drinks. Our server was very personable, attentive and helpful. All of our food was good! The pretzel was fresh and hot and the dipping sauces were both very tasty. I had pork Schnitzel and my wife had the chicken. The breading was flavorful and fried perfectly. We both subbed the cabbage for other items as we'd read it has Carraway seeds in it, which is unusual and neither of us are a fan of Carraway. I got the German potato salad instead and it was served warm which is traditional. It was good, but I'd have liked it to be a little heavier on the vinegar which would be more to German standards, but I understand the need to appeal to American tastes. My wife got the house chips and they were fresh, also fried perfectly and actually seasoned well. Prior to our arrival I messaged the restaurant to inquire about the parking situation. They responded quickly and let us know there is metered street parking and a parking garage nearby on 2nd & Market St. We ended up parking down by the river one block away. I've been to roughly 3 German restaurants in my life... and I've never been to Germany so I'm not very well versed personally in the cuisine. But as far as quality food goes- this place gots it. My best experience with German cuisine hands down, everything was fresh, perfectly balanced flavor, not too overwhelming but not bland by any means. Pork chop perfect- not dry, could taste the apple smoke. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. Outdoor seating- back patio dog friendly, lots of fans and shade so not too hot either. My wife and I went for lunch on a Sunday at around 1230. The staff immediately greeted us when we entered and we were able to be seated in the covered outdoor section. The patio featured a retractable umbrella and plenty of greenery. We ordered the Firecracker Shrimp as an appetizer. It was a great fusion of culinary styles, offering a modern food accented by the more traditional greens. My wife decided on the Local Flounder Sandwich with their home made chips and I chose the Schnitzel Patty Melt with fries. Both were generous portions and excellent meals. We have been wanting to try this place for a while since it opened. Just haven't been in Wilmington enough. It's located one block off of the water and has limited views. The parking can be an issue. A private lot adjacent to the location charges a minimum of $20 but there is a public lot just feet up the alley that charges $2 for the first hour and $1 per hour beyond that. The building looks great from the outside but be aware there is little signage to go by. The beer garden is to the back with nice open air feeling with a full bar. You can enter directly into the beer garden or go inside to the main dining room. Very friendly greeters and wait staff. Mixture of long tables with benches (German style) plus a number of two/four top tables with chairs. The happy hour menu is what you should start with. Lots of offerings at great prices. We tried the Kaese spaetzle for two and it was plenty. A little over cheesy but the Emmentaler will lock your jaws up. The roasted brussel sprouts were maybe the best I've ever had. The fresh baked pretzel was very good but the hot mustard was HOT. And good. We didn't get a chance to try an entree but the menu has a lot to offer. My husband does not care for German food so I eat it almost every time I travel. I'd like to say I'm kind of a German food connoisseur. I ordered the pork Jager schnitzel as well as the potato pancake appetizer. It was nice to see that the potato pancake was actually made with grated potatoes and not a potato mash. I enjoyed it very much! My entree included spaetzle and braised red cabbage. The pork schnitzel and the spaetzle were excellent. To my surprise the braised red cabbage was loaded with what I believe to be caraway seeds. I've never had caraway seeds in my braised cabbage before. (typically it only comes in sauerkraut) Needless to say, I did not care for it nor eat it. If you like caraway seeds, then you would love this cabbage. I ran into a beer special as well which was awesome. I had two German beers for a total of six dollars. My total bill without tip was under $30. I thought that was a bargain for the amount of food that I got! Will I come back here to eat? Most definitely!! WilI I order the braised cabbage? Most definitely not. I would've given this establishment six stars had I not encountered the caraway seeds as I have never experienced them in cabbage before. read more
