One of my favorite spots for German food on the island - the staff is always super nice and the vibes are really relaxing a chill. Visit Date: October 1, 2025 Even though I don't drink alcohol I fell into a facebook group that my boyfriend belonged to when we first started dating called 8 O'Clock Shot. The people in the group are cool about me drinking coffee, OJ & Seltzer and N/A beers and I'm cool with the fact that they drink, overall they're a pretty good group of people. Last night Tom Perrone a member of 8OCS hosted his first ever vinyl night in Nassau County at Prost. Usually he hosts Vinyl nights in Patchogue at TwoMorrow's Pub. Sometimes he'll host other vinyl nights or afternoons at different locations. So my boyfriend and I were able to go. One of the good things I appreciate about Prost is that it's a bar/restaurant. So if there's something going on and I need to bring my son I'm safely able to do so. I wouldn't bring my 9 year old to just a bar but if it's a bar/restaurant there's nothing wrong with bringing him if I had to. We didn't get a chance to have any food, maybe one day on one of our future visits we will. I had an OJ & Seltzer and a Clausthaler N/A beer. My go to N/A beer for drinking at home has been Athletic Brewery N/A beer but I had a Clausthaler once before at the American Hotel Bar in Sayville and Clausthaler is a good flavorful N/A beer. They continued to take our order for food and drinks for two hours at our table. If you're going to charge top dollar, you should have better food. $15 for a pretzel that was hard as a rock. The $30 saurbraten had canned red cabbage (its really not hard to make this fresh), some kind of dough ball made from a mix, and 4 slices of pot roast in spiced gravey. We went to Prost yesterday for lunch. I was not as pleased with it as I was expecting to be. I grew up in a German household so was used to the sauerkraut and the different sausages and especially apple strudel. The only thing that was good that we ordered was the pretzel. The sandwich had melted cheese on it which I wasn't expecting and lettuce and tomato. It was pretty bland and would definitely benefited from sone salt which was not on the table. The wurst plate was dry i was told. The potato pancakes were much thicker than I prefer and extremely hard fried. I forgot to take a pic of the strudel but was far from a traditional strudel. I am not in a hurry to go back. The best thing about coming here was the server was nice and the beer was good. I was surprised when we walked in because it had two large Irish flags hanging from the ceiling and four leaf clover garland all over. Granted St. Patricks Day is coming. read more

My mom on the other hand was so jealous we came here and would have had a field day here. Anyway the food wasn't bad, my hubs who loves everything had the time of his life. When asking about the beer options she rushed me through and when my girlfriend asked about the cocktail options she said "it's a regular bar, we just make regular drinks." We went here for a late dinner on a Saturday night. It was a bit louder than expected but the waitress was so nice and recommended us to get their maple sriracha wings instead of BBQ and it was a great choice. It wasn't spicy at all and had so much flavor. They were crispy and meaty, exactly what you want out of a bar wing. We also did fried cheese curds which were a special, big portion size and an awesome cheese pull! We finished by splitting a wurst platter. Great beer choices - delicious soft hot pretzel Don't remember which 2 wursts I got but one had cheese and one was a standard one. Had an amazing experience for a double birthday celebration. Service was a little slow, but that's because they were super busy but didn't seem to have a full staff. Towards the end, when more customers cleared out it became much faster. The food was amazing. We had the Oktoberfest menu. The pig wings were huge, so you can definitely split one between two people. The pretzel is huge and comes with a nice beer cheese. The sauerbraten was really good, but I substituted a potato pancake for the dumpling. We also had the schweinehaxe, which was good but the skin wasn't quite as good as other places we've been to. We didn't end up eating the skin. The Bavarian plate was massive and couldn't really be finished. The burger was also huge and amazing. The only plate that was small was the sauerbraten, but it was a perfect portion. The service was great for us. She was attentive and always brought us what we needed. She even asked the bartender for things we requested. They don't have Underburg in case you're wondering. Prost is a little bar in Garden City that has parking in the back, which is shared with many other restaurants and establishments in the area. Sat down for dinner with a group of friends for dinner and there weren't a lot of people, so we were seated right away. Service was pretty good too. Their beer options were all at a pretty fair price, but I feel like the food was more expensive than expected. I got a 2-wurst platter, which comes with 2 sausages of your choice, fries or potato pancakes, and a few sauces and sides. I chose the chorizo and knack and I thought they were delicious; they were juicy and full of flavor. The potato pancakes were pretty good too; crispy on the outside and the inside wasn't just potatoes, there's something mixed into it. Someone else got the burger and he wasn't as impressed. The patty was definitely thick, but in terms of flavor, there wasn't anything too special. Although the meals were filling, each dish was over $20, which I think is a bit hefty. Overall, Prost is a classic gastropub. I've never had a lot of German food before, but I would imagine that Prost is doing a pretty good job at representing their cuisine. read more

RECOMMENDED On Wednesday, February 6th I hosted a dinner for 11 at Prost in Garden City. The restaurant is a few blocks south of the intersection of Franklin and Stewart Avenue. There should be ample parking in the municipal lot adjacent to the rear entrance. Prost has a comfortable and inviting "pubby" decor, the perfect setting to enjoy its humongous portions of cozy German comfort food. Our group assembled and the restaurant seated our group promptly at our reserved time. This was immediately after I enjoyed a terrific draft Stone IPA, one of the many craft and German beers available. We were fortunate to have Gabi and Jack as servers. Both were pleasant and conscientious. Gabi graciously consented to our request for separate checks. In addition to our fine servers, the kitchen also hummed, turning out apps, entrees and desserts at a quick pace. This was not an easy task, given the size of our group. Onto the food.........Although my entree would have come with Potato Pancakes, I still chose Potato Pancakes for my app. Although they arrived in a generous portion of five, allowing me to share with my table mates, they were overcooked and a little too big and thick for my taste. Better starter choices would have been the German Meatballs or a cup of Goulash Stew, both of which drew praise from my companions. I choose the Three Sausage Platter ($26), consisting of Bratwurst, Bockwurst and Bauernwurst. I, and my fellow diners, thought the wurst sausages here were outstanding. They arrived hot in temperature. They were also beautifully spiced. I liked their wursts better than those at Plattduetsche Park in Franklin Square. I emphasize again that the portions here, as evinced by my photos, are very generous.My companions praised the Wienerschnitzel and Jagerschnitzel in particular. Unlike my usual practice, I opted for dessert. Gabi advised me that they did not have my preference, namely, Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies. She instead brought me a complimentary piece of Lava Cake. It was heavenly. Its insides were airy and oozing with melted chocolate. An absolute "must order again". Gabi and Jack, true to Gabi's promise, settled our checks effortlessly and without error, leaving me to bask in the praise of my group members for selecting a great dining destination. This definitely qualifies as a gastropub. Modern look with rustic touches, limited menu but big step up from typical pub food -- and no pork shanks on the menu. Yikes! What's a German restaurant without pork shanks, says my husband. A: a German gastropub. Between us, we ordered German meatballs app, cup of short rib goulash, and the two-wurst platter featuring Knack and Bock (wursts). Meatballs - very mild, nice texture; reminded me of what I've always called Swedish meatballs. The "creamy cheese sauce" however was very thin and forgettable. From the platter, the potato pancakes were absolutely TO-DIE-FOR as was the cinnamony dark applesauce accompaniment. The two wursts were superb. Definitely some of the best wurst. (Couldn't resist.) Sauerkraurt and red cabbage were just blah. The cabbage was very dry and had no seasoning at all to it. And sad to say, the pretzel roll had somewhat of the texture/taste of a minor freezer burn victim. The goulash was generous, plenty of meat, as tender as promised, but so spicy. As in, Sriracha spicy. Asian spicy. Dang! WAY too much heat for me and not what I was expecting at all. Note: I had previously viewed the online menu, which makes no reference to the unexpected heat; so to be fair, I didn't read the complete description of this dish in the actual menu I was handed. Has it changed? I noticed one thing did change: the website's menu image says "Authentic German Classics" and I'm pretty sure the ones we got said "Authentic Prost Classics." I mean, there's nothing authentically German about shrimp scampi when it comes right down to it. And what's with all this Sriracha anyway? Service was friendly, and AOK. I have no doubt that if I had complained about the pretzel roll they would have cheerfully replaced it. So as another reviewer pointed out, I think we're really looking at a German-inspired beer house -- loads of great options in that department, by the way -- and sticking to wursts and burgers (or maybe Maple Sriracha Wings) is probably the best way to go at Prost. If you're looking for a true German restaurant experience, I think you must seek elsewhere. read more

Truth be told, this wasn't my first choice for lunch with my girlfriend this past Sunday. I had another German location on the radar, but due to an event they were having, we landed in this "part" of Deutschland instead. I had previously visited Prost on one other occasion a few years ago and remember a decent meal so I was open to giving it another round. The result was basically worth it. A Sunday afternoon at Prost was quiet, with only one large party and a couple of football fans at the bar. Because of that, we were given a choice to sit basically anywhere we liked. The place isn't too large, but summons a decent amount of German theming to give it the feel you'd expect from a place such as this. Large images of German landmarks line one wall while the other is made up of the bar. It's covered with fútbol scarves and a few German knickknacks. There's also a beautiful, modern fireplace at one end of it. On to the meal! With quite the selection of German brews available, I started with a Hofbrau Dunkel, a creamy and mildly bitter choice. From there, we shared the giant Bavarian pretzel to start, which isn't an exaggeration on size. This pretzel was massive and came with beer cheese and mustard for dipping (and a couple of pickle slices). Hot, fresh, and tasty even if a little heavy on the salt. Service moved a little slow, though that helped in keeping us from ordering too much (eyes bigger than stomach kinda deal). With most of the pretzel consumed, we then shared a two sausage platter. Bauernwurst and cheddar brat were our choices, with the rest of the platter consisting of potato pancakes, kraut, red cabbage, and a pretzel roll. I was also hankering for some German potato salad so we got a side of that too. The bauernwurst was advertised as spicy on the menu, but there was little to no kick to be found. The cheddar brat held true to its cheesy innards. Both were decent in meaty taste. The pancakes were delicious especially when accompanied with the cinnamon-laced apple sauce as part of the platter. Kraut and cabbage did the job with their own distinct flavors and the pretzel roll was the last man standing on the platter (too much pretzel earlier). The potato salad had nice chunks of starchy goodness with large pieces of bacon and onion scattered about all in a great dressing. Overall, Prost proved to be a quality German food spot with some pretty tasty choices. Even though I still want to go to that other aforementioned German restaurant sometime soon, I can say, with confidence, that Prost is a nice choice too. Trivia on tuesdays is always a fun time. Beers range from $6.24 for coors draft to $9.36 for the vast majority of their German imports. If you want fresh, quality German beer and food this is a quality choice. Staff are pleasant and service is good. I am literally blown away by the positive reviews. My husband and I were here the other day when the place we planned on eating was a little too crowded.. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a pleasant server. My husband went to the bathroom to wash his hands, and when he came back I knew he wanted to leave. He said it was absolutely filthy with a very strong smell of stale urine. We were very tied for time, and were starving, so we decided to stay. The beer was perfectly cold, so that improved our mood a little. Then we ordered - me a chicken blt, and my husband a buffalo chicken wrap. The fries that came with them were delicious. That's where the good ends. The bacon looked and tasted like it had been reheated many times. It seemed to be deep-fried, and yet rubbery at the same time. The tomato was put on the side, for some reason, and there was no mayonnaise. My husband's wrap was not good. The "buffalo" sauce tasted like it was just plain old hot sauce. The server stopped by to ask if everything was ok. If something had merely been forgotten, or the wrong order was served, we'd have said something and I'm sure it would have been easily rectified. However, the food was the food, and if Prost is comfortable serving it, nothing we could have said would have made a difference. We said everything was fine. Besides that, I love finding a place on Yelp that under performs in its ratings then checking it out on my own and afterwards we are all walking away with a smile on our faces after a stellar experience! Unbelievable after all our years in the area this is the first time we are checking out Prost despite it being a stones throw from our house. We notice that menu has been scaled down some and reworked a bit from the one presented online. It is more streamlined, and perhaps more focused on the items that work best. We notice that the bier menu offers a flight of four 5oz pours. My step dad and I, decide on doing a flight, but instead of the 5oz pours we order 3 different pints over the course of meal! haha My stepdad allowing me to order for the both of us, we get the Barrier Icculus Kölsch because I decide to go local, but with a nod to the German style Kolsch - it is a great choice! Next up we try the newly added Victor Summer Love ale mainly because I was won over by the name, but I also love it as well. It is imported from my parents now home state of Pennsylvania. We round out the evening with a Prost lager, which was refreshing light and crisp after our big meal! Someone say SCWIENEFLUGEL! (No seriously, how do you pronounce that?) These award winning pig wings live up to the hype with tender fall off the bone pork served like buffalo wings with carrots, celery and a blue cheese dipping sauce - amazing! We also order the large Bavarian pretzel served with obatzer and mustard for dipping - it was served perfectly warmed perhaps too much salt, which is easily removed though. Although the "apps" would have been enough to fill us we order sausages - Knockwurst for me, cheddar brats for my step dad and wife and my mom gets the Sauerbraten. The sausages are served on a perfect pretzel bun with a generous amount of shoe string fries - we went with the sauerkraut and red cabbage over the peppers and onions. Damn tasty! When it comes to Sauerbraten, my mom has specific expectations and the gravy did not hit the mark for her although she though it was delicious when she combined her bites with the red cabbage. For dessert we order the flourless black forest chocolate cake, which comes out with a candle and a glass of honey liquor. We were all puzzled about how they knew it was my mom's birthday and later found out one of the owners, Jim saw my mom's Facebook check in and took it upon himself to add the birthday touch and complimentary drink! Classy and made us all feel great as we tried to figure out which one of us said something! Although not an entirely perfect experience I upped the star power here to 5 to make up for other reviews that seem overly harsh. This place is reasonable priced, with perfectly poured beers, delicious well made food and excellent friendly service - what more could you ask for? read more
