Was a little wary having to go here because I knew NONE of the beers on the menu but the waitress was helpful in pointing us to beers that we would like based on what we normally drink. She also guided us through their food options! Only negative is that you really NEED A RESERVATION for this type of place. We came thinking since it was a small pub that we would be able to find seats no problem. Apparently every table in here can be reserved, which was so odd if you're a pub person. Also, because of how much people enjoy this place there were moments where we felt rushed to order so they can get the food out, it's possible that it was just this specifics waitress-- but something to be on the look out for. Went there because I love beer gardens. Didn't love it and haven't went back. First, that pretty picture with the outdoor dining is laughably misleading. The only outdoor area is in front, about 20 feet from very busy train tracks. Beer gardens are all about outdoor dining and you definitely don't get that. The inside basically looks like any other restaurant, they could switch it to sushi and it would fit in. Not a terrible thing but definitely not unique. The food was ok. Very limited menu. A few bratt type options were good but small and kind of expensive. The pretzel was ok, dry. Nice, well thought out beer menu. Good German options. SERVICE- our young server was nice and tried hard... BUT it's a BEER garden and when I asked any question on the beer menu she had no idea. That should not be. Teach your staff?!?! Last reviewed 9/12 and I gave it 1 star. I have to say, things have improved. Had 3 wursts, red cabbage, sauerkraut and spaetzle. Other than the fact that the spaetzle was over cooked and crunchy (it still tasted good), I was pleasantly surprised. Awesome selection of on-tap German beers- many of which I've never seen (a hefe-dunkle?)-, comfortable seating, cozy atmosphere, friendly bartenders, and solid inexpensive food (my cheddar brat on pretzel roll with German potato salad on the side really hit the spot for lunch). I spent a few hours here with the boy during lunch, and the next day while I was on bridesmaid duty, he decided to return and had an even better experience (the owner was good to him, a great mark of customer service). I came here with a friend on a Friday night and it was a great decision. They have regular seating, bar seating, seating right outside the bar and outdoors eating. It was a little chilly but on a beautiful summer night I can't think of anything better than throwing down authentic German beer at this place. Pretty calm place wasn't too loud, could actually have a conversation here. I ordered the pork wings and my friend got some type of chicken BLT. The pork wings were fantastic, (I chose BBQ sauce for them) Really meaty and tender and her chicken BLT was also great. We ended up switching plates half way through the meal! The beer is really good and actually German. Can't go wrong with Hofbrau or the Gaffel Kolsch . Choose those beers if you're unfamiliar with German beers. They aren't heavy at all. The Kolsch is very malty so for those who hate hops or the taste of beer, this one is for you. Beers average about $7 a pop, but they are strong and served in large glasses, so a few will get you drunk nicely. Bartenders are very friendly, and offer tastings if you're unfamiliar with the beers. When I was here, I was seated next to a few German guys. If it passes for them, it will pass for you. BEST BURGER IN AREA. I recently wrote a review for Black Label Burger which is the best "fast food priced" burger joint around. NOW my personal favorite burger on long island comes from Prost! Every burger that I have ordered comes out cooked perfectly and not burnt. The juice flows out of the burger here and the bacon is a must have addition. You might question paying a dollar a slice for bacon, UNTIL you chomp down on it in your already massive burger. Their bacon is thick cut and cooked not floppy or slim. The chicken and bacon BLT is another top quality menu item. Burger comes with fries like the BLT and they are great as well. Polite service no matter how crowded. read more

Went here to catch up with a friend, we both work out to sea throughout the year, so time when we both shoreside is rare. I'm originally from Buffalo and was really craving some good buffalo wings, which is hard to come by here on the East coast! My friend suggested we try out Prost, very happy we went here! The wings were pretty good, plenty of meat and sauce! The beer selection is also very good, I love a good IPA and was very pleased with what they have on tap. Yeah, there's nothing realy wrong with this place. My hesitation in giving it a better review is mostly because I'm a beer snob. I just didn't think that this German Bier Hall really had a good beer selection...it was borderline ok to be honest. I mean, they had some of the most generic types of German beers...I just would have expected something better, or a much more exlectic selection. That being said, I suppose that's actually pretty standard. At any rate, the best thing about the place was the dumpling I had with their pork and gravy. That dumpling was like...a warm delicious bowl of chicken soup, or what matzah ball soup should be like, but in a dumpling. I'd go again just for that. My first experience and intend to return. I was walking on Franklin and saw the sandwich board that it was Sauerbraten night for $16 so I mentioned it to my GF and we went for a quick dinner. Along with the Sauerbraten I had one of the draught pilsners. My GF had the Wiener Schnitzel which was the size of a manhole cover. The meals were good, the beer cold, just what you would expect. I will say the food is good, the problem is with the menu and service. the menu on the web page has food that is not in the restaurant. They only have the normal sausage, the gourmet sausages do not exist. The apertizers on the web is extensive, not in the restaurants. The main entrees came while we were still eating the apertizers. The german potato salad was not what we expected, it was more like roasted potatoes. The apple strudel came without tge ice cream, it took a while for the waitress to come back to the table to get the 1 tiny scoop of the ice cream. The pretzel was gigantic, enough for a few people. My first visit to Prostin Garden City was pleasant and the food was delicious, beer flowed and we had a great time, however our second visit was absolutely horrendous. Our servers attitude was deplorable and she ignored us for well over an hour after she brought us our food. We were content to stay and continue eating and drinking but we didn't have the chance to order past our drinks an appetizer and our entrees. She continued serving the other 3 tables around us, not even checking in to see how our food came out. We decided to leave as we felt extremely unwelcome and we tried for 30 minutes to get our servers attention for the check, unfortunately she never gave me the time of day so I did my own math for what our total would be based on the menu prices and left cash with enough to cover tax and a small tip of whatever would be leftover. Apparently we finally got her attention by walking for the door at which point she ran across the dining area yelling "Hey! Hey! Get back here you have to pay!" and chased us to the door where she felt it necessary to argue with me and make me walk to the back with her. She treated me like a criminal and tried to explain her behavior on it being "busy" there were 4 tables of couples being served by her and a coworker. I left embarrassed and bewildered. I would not recommend that anyone go to spend an evening out at Prost. The service is not worth it to enjoy their excellent food. I feel I should add that this happened well before COVID-19 but I still think of that night and how I felt often. read more

We came in to see a friend of mine and his band Vintage. and though, when I called I was told they were not taking reservations, we did get a table after only a few minutes of waiting. The pub was a bit smaller than what I thought it would be. but that aside we ordered the giant pretzel and wings for appetizers which were delicious! Main course was burgers and bratwursts combo. i only gave them four stars because the main course was brought out within seconds of taking away our appetizer plates and the main course wasn't really hot which leads me to believe that they had been prepared and waiting in the kitchen. The fries were warm and the pretzel bun had already begun to harden and was cold. But the flavors were there and were good so it is somewhere that I would definitely return to eat. read more

I felt the waitress was not able to answer simple questions about the available beer, but no bother. The food was good. Pretzel appetizer was huge, not quite sure if pretzel was freshly made, I'm going with no but it was still ok. My entree, Jagerschnitzel was excellent. Very tasty, large portion.
