Terrible. Are they closing? Seemed like it. They had no pretzels or pretzel rolls. No pig wings. No Radeberger. And it was only 6pm! The brats came in regular rolls that they probably bought at the supermarket. The waiter was incompetent. He forgot to put one of the orders in and took 15 mins to get me a beer. Came here for a lunch today (Wednesday) and was very impressed with the team. Our waitress, a lovely young woman was very attentive and seated us immediately. The menu was new since our last visit and a noticeable omission was the pretzel, a usual favorite of our group. The bartender, a genial/curmudgeony man was quick with refills and bantered well with our waitress. I'd like to come by after work and just vent to him! The food, a new summer menu, is very un-German. Wurst-many options and good that we have options, the kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) are excellent. The rest of the menu I can get at any pub. The house lager is thin and tasteless and I switched to Hofbrau after the first glass. The waitress was very accommodating and suggested several hefeweizen as alternatives. It's nice to talk beer with someone who knows beer. In all, good for lunch. The dinner menu is disappointing in that it's the usual *English* pub fair. I truly have no idea how this place has 3.5 stars. I've been here twice now and only came in the second time because I was meeting a group there. The food is terrible and the service is a perfect match. Potato pancakes were sour (either had far too much sour cream or literally something turned), had far too much flour in the mix and no salt/seasoning. The "Prost Burger" was nothing special and somehow was extremely dry even though I ordered a rare burger. The pretzel bun had no flavor and added nothing to the burger. Best part of this place is the selection of beers and I did enjoy their Black Forest cake for dessert. In a group of 7 only one person enjoyed their entree which was the salmon in a caper sauce which is not saying much. read more

I came here with some friends to watch the USA v. Ghana World Cup game and it was a great time. We started at the bar with Tom who was very helpful and attentive. He recommended us Hofbrau lagers and they were a great choice. The crowd at the bar was lively, all cheering on the soccer. We decided we wanted to get a table and ended up outside, using one of their many benches so we could relax and still see the game. Our server was very attentive and suggested the Weinerschnitzel which was excellent. Even with the wild crowds in there for the game, we barely had to wait for food or drinks. This is a great soccer place and we recommend it to anyone looking for a good beer and some good food. read more

Terrific addition to G.C. restaurant scene. First time we ate here it was a limited menu as the "grand opening" has not yet taken place. Nevertheless, the grilled sausages and fries were delicious! Second trip was better as menu was expanded.....Jaeger schnitzel was yummy. Deserts were equally tasty, tried the apple strudel and crepes. Service was excellent (thanks to Eli). I hosted what was to be a fun post-Oktoberfest event with clients in the garden city area. Figured what better place than Prost?! So went ahead and booked a happy hour event, 3 hours, from 5-8pm, open bar with some preselected food to snack on. Boy was i wrong!!! It was horrible due to one main reason and bc of that i will not be back!! Nor will the people that attended this event....as everyone left complaining. Here's my complete overview/assessment of the experience at Prost; - josh, who i set up the event with and prepares the food was great, very nice and a pleasure to deal with - food, we had tray of the pretzels, wurste platter, weiner schnitzel, and some cheese platters - all was good, just what you would expect (not better or worse, good) Now on to the good stuff.... We were told we had front side of bar and had tables set up at front of restaurant where guests can gather, sit and eat. Dave was the bartender and we were assigned 2 young girls as servers. - the girls were nice and tried their best, but were young and pretty much clueless So what really made our experience awful?! Dave, the bartender, had to be the worst bartender i have ever had!!! He had an attitude, and was very nasty any time someone asked him for a drink!!! You're the bartender for crying out loud!! He would shout back to anyone that asked him for a drink to "order from the girls"! And there were times the girls were not even around/available. He had such a problem serving us drinks!!! He's the bartender...the ONLY bartender that night, he is the one making the drinks and we were there to have a few.....it was completely baffling?!?!!! And I can see if the place was packed and he was just too crazy busy to get to us, but that was not the case! At any point besides my party there were at most 4-6 people sitting at the bar....at most!!! We had a 3 hour open bar and it was the most frustrating 3 hours! One of my guests actually just wanted a club soda, Dave made him wait 20 minutes and then snapped at him too to "order from the girls"!! Really?!? Why are you a bartender if you don't want to serve drinks. I don't know about you but I like going places where the bartenders are friendly and make you feel good and welcome. In addition, the drinks were awful. Rum and cokes, vodka and club soda orders were all soda with about droplet of alcohol. We had to order drinks with a shot of alcohol on the side and pour the shot into the drink ourselves. And not to say we were looking to get smashed and rowdy but if we just wanted to order soda i would not have paid to have full bar. This is really the first negative review i have ever posted. And I'm not even sure it fully reflects how upset I was over this experience. I would not recommend this place. I will not be back. Bartender with major attitude and terrible drinks ruined what could have been a fun experience. read more

The beer was decent, the knockwurst I had was way too small for $8, although they were very generous with the various sauerkraut and caramelized onions. Modern and sleek decor however the service was horrid, and frankly almost non-existent; nevertheless on a Saturday night! Don't think I'll ever be returning. read more

Party of 10 people, from the time we sat down until the time we got our first drink = 55min. Service was sub-par, had to keep waving down our server to get his attention. Finally got our main course after over 2 hours, except for 2 of the orders which finally came out after everyone was finished eating. Had to talk to the manager or owner and hostess several times to find out what was going on and never got an answer. Nothing was taken off the bill and our bad experience was not made right. I like the idea of this place and the beer selection, the food is pretty good, but the terrible service and the lack of care for customer satisfaction is extremely poor. We will not return here unless I hear that things have changed. Unfortunately the 10 people this place pissed off are all local customers who enjoy eating & drinking. read more

We stumbled upon Prost as we searched for a another restaurant in the same vicinity. I am not the adventurous type and would rather hear some reviews before dipping my toe in the water, so to speak. However, we ventured in and were very happy with our decision. I found the place to be clean, comfortably outfitted, both dining room and bar. The wait staff, while young were solid and attentive. An full bar with an outstanding beer menu; very diverse with offerings to please both experienced beer drinkers and novices alike. Not sure about a beer? Ask the wait staff for a taste - a nice touch indeed. The menu was deep; one side offered traditional German fare, with the reverse side offering a rich selection of wursts - homemade. A broad array of topping are offered with the wursts. Burgers are offered as well for those who rather have a traditional mainstay. Take your time reading the menu; the offerings are well defined and very accurate. The dessert menu was a bit small, but what was available was traditional and very very good, Do save some room for the dessert. Seating is ample and well spaced. The bar which is adjacent to the dining room is effectively separated. I think the high ceiling also assisted in keeping most ambient noise to a minimum. Open for late night meals; another good touch when most of the better restaurants shut down at 10 PM during the weekdays. So I loved the place, the food, the service, the offering so why only four stars? Little things annoy me. Television in a bar is fine, not in the dining room. Prost decided to place an in-wall unit at the head the dining room. I rather it not be there; no need to view the soccer game as I and moving head first into a wiener schnitzel. Do not let this stop you from going to Prost as you can adjust your seating as needed as I will for my next visit. Prost is a a great, less traditional Garden City - type restaurant / bar. An accommodating restaurant with wonderful food, service and a solid value. read more

I'm a fan! We have been going to Prost now for over a year.... It has become our go-to place to eat. Pig Wings!!! Didn't know they could fly, but man, are they tasty (try the Chipotle BBQ sauce). Goulash is outstanding! Potato Pancakes with Homemade Applesauce are the best I have ever had. Want to talk beer???? Excellent selection and not your run-of-the-mill options. They change up line-up of beers from time to time to introduce some different options. Weekend Brunch menu is quite good too! Egg Sandwich with Applewood Smoked Bacon is a staple. Solid 3-star experience hanging at the bar here for a friend's birthday. Could've been closer to 4 stars but for the pretty awful open mic night that went on for hours. Most of us ordered food, and everyone was happy with what they received, though the menu is small. It was hard to get a good look at the restaurant side of the place, but when I did sneak a peek the space seemed nice enough. The bar got very crowded, so arrive on the early side if you want a stool or a spot to throw your bag and jacket. read more

Great beer, excellent food. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. It was very clean looking and well looked after. They had no problem accommodating my daughter's kiddie meal. I do feel the menu is a little small, but everything we had was excellent, my only tiny complaint was the potato pancakes were a little doughy. There's a lot to not like about this small German bar/ restaurant. Decor is more "Garden City" than Munich but that's not the worst of it. Though the beer list is great, the food is pretty awful. Souerbraten so over marinated in white vinegar it's quite unpalatable with barely any gravy. The vinegar flavor was so overpowering, it killed any flavor the red cabbage or my Oktoberfest beer had. Goulash tasted too smokey and nothing like its suppose to. Pretty pricey for such poorly made food that cost more than a night out in Berlin. Only positive note is that service is very friendly and quick. read more

Just had dinner here it's fairly new. The food was disgusting. They burnt our schnitzel and the "dumplings" were instant mashed potatoes. I'm a trained professional chef I know what at least decent food should be. The service was mediocre and they completely forgot to bring out our appetizers. Everything was incredible. The German decor gives it a real authentic vibe right off the bat. My husband and I were starving and didn't heed the waitress' warning about the amount of food we had ordered and had to take most of it home but not for lack of trying. The pig wings are a must! We also got the german nachos and of course tried as many beers as you possibly could before hitting maximum fullness. Each beer is served in a cool 16oz German stein. The sausages are served on pretzel buns and come with a good amount of fries as well. Our waitress was friendly, quick and had great suggestions, she also gave us the heads up that Tuesday there is trivia, so after quite a few beers we ended up sticking around for trivia and the place really started to fill up. They must have been having a private lunch that day because only seating at the bar was available. Their is a large parking lot in the back for all the nearby businesses. I ordered the classic german bratwurst with sauteed onions and sauerkraut. It came on a french bread and i ordered fries with it. The fries were nice and krispy and the bratwurst tasted good but it was way too small. A street hot dog is longer but not as tasty but street dog costs $1 not $10! The place is a decent size but I'd go elsewhere if you had a party of 6 or more. The food also took way too long to arrive. They may have had a private event going on that day - hence the seating at the bar but how long does a hot dog take to cook?? If the bratwurst were longer and the food wait wasn't so long I'd go again but as it is - I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

So i'm a fan for various reasons. One the owner is a sweetheart he's always accommodating. Always has a smile (his staff does too!) but if you go there often enough he remembers your name and that to me is great. The second is the food. I go there with my boyfriend and the Cosmos crew as they let us see the games there all the time (thank you!!) I love their pigs wings but i fell in love with their chicken Schnitzel. Yummy!!! Well I've been here over an hour with 0 attention. And I actually love this place :( I've been here over 10 times and the service tonight was appalling... GRANTED it was the Belmont stakes street party. However, this establishment was not busy at all ! I don't like writing negative reviews but this place is understaffed. PERIOD! To add insult to injury we had to wait to have drinks and an appetizer that we never received removed from our check. Literally we had to wait 30 minutes to dispute our check and got nothing compensated, but we had to dispute appetizers and drinks we were charged for but never received. Prost is the most authentic German cuisine I have found on Long Island. I ordered a Buffalo wurst and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The service was quick and friendly. The owner, Jim, seemed sincere in making sure our dinner was top notch. Well I bet the majority of people who reviewed this place have never been to Germany. I have. This place is great. Where else can you go and get a bratwurst and a stein? Yea, thats what I thought. Any brat or meat in a pretzel bun with cabbage/kraut and a fat beer. Friendly service, great location, awesome food.
