What an amazing experience! My husband and I ate here yesterday around 2pm. We had great German food and beer in an old church. The pues were converted into seating, the original stained glass windows were there and in good condition, and the ceiling had gorgeous paintings on it. The bathrooms sport a fun blue and white checker pattern, what's not to love!? Service was fast and friendly. My husband got the tap beer on special and I got one of the Hefeweizens. Both were cold and delicious. We split the Broccoli beer cheese soup, the chicken schnitzel with spatzel and a small sausage board. Everything was delicious! I'm not usually a soup person, but it was so flavorful and hearty. The chicken was crispy and juicy with Creamy, smooth spatzel. The sausage board had a little bit of everything, including sausage, warm potato salad, gherkins, 3 kinds of Mustard and much more! Rating from F to A+++ I give it an A+++! read more

Loved the multi-mustard giant pretzel appetizer. Had the walleye fish fry, was the biggest piece of walleye I'd ever seen at a fish fry, was decent but wish I'd known how big, my wife and I would have split it; lots of fries came with as well. Had a good visit to Prost during a recent trip to Madison. Prost is located inside an old church and the ambiance is excellent with a nice, cozy German beer hall feel to it. Our visit was on a Monday night and there was space available both at tables and the bar and we decided to sit at a long table and were immediately greeted by a welcoming waiter. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with a side of spaetzle and the food was good. The schnitzel was expertly pounded flat, breaded and fried and the spaetzle was cooked nicely but was a touch bland. Some sauerkraut accompanying the dish would have been a nice touch but wasn't offered. The menu is relatively light but has enough options if you are into German food. In addition to the schnitzel, there are a couple sandwiches and a good sampling of wursts available, too. For the beer drinkers, a respectable menu of German and some local options were available for purchase. read more

Saw the press on this newly opened German beer hall and since we were in the area we stopped by to meet friends who were coming from the Badger football game. Perhaps not the best time to attempt to dine here since it was packed. It is a cool space - a very good use of an old church. They have long beer hall style tables like you would find in Munich. One problem is that it is super loud. They do have a good selection of beers and do include the mandatory "boot of beer". They only take reservations for groups of 10 or more. Our group of six waited an hour even though we were the third group on the list. Two of us decided to leave so the other four could get a table or they may never have been seated. Again not an ideal night to try this place - not just after a Badger game but within 90 days of opening (they need time to work out the bugs). So the only food the two of us tried was the giant pretzel while we waited. $22 for the whole and $11 for a half. It was huge and good. The menu was pretty small and except for the sausage not very German (not like the Essen Haus just down the road). We will give it another try on a week night in a a couple months. read more

My new favorite spot in Madison! I came here with my daughter and we both loved the space, service, and food. Situated in an old church, they successfully decorated this just like a Bavarian beer hall. It's truly gorgeous inside. Our server, Mateo, was super friendly and happy to accommodate when I asked him to surprise me with his favorite beer. He was also very knowledgable and helpful with a few questions about the menu. We started with the potato pancake which was basically a giant hash brown with some of the creamiest and sweetest sour cream you'll ever taste. My daughter had the massive chicken schnitzel with spaetzle and I ordered the "Small" (hahahaha) 2-Sausage Board. I asked Mateo to choose the two best wurst for me and he selected the Thüringer (beef, pork, garlic) and the Bratwurst (pork and beef). All sausage boards are served sauerkraut, red cabbage, black forest ham, warm potato salad, gherkins & cucumber salad. We were so happy to find this gem! I'm a fan of this place!!! As a german bar, its spot on and really embraces that vibe. It is on the pricer end but hey, just keep drinking and ordering the giant pretzels and you'll be fine. The cheese curds rival the Old Fashioned which I claim as the best in Madison! They were light, crispy, cheese-pulley filled goodness. Served with a flavorful lemon aioli. Then we tried the oversized and perfectly fried chicken schnitzel and fries. We shared a 2 wurst board which would've been plenty for a couple to share! Food was so good, we were so full, and the ambiance was amazing, albeit a little loud (it was Saturday night). I will come back with my husband for sure! We chose to have our rehearsal dinner here with the help of David and I am happy to report it all went well! We wanted somewhere with good food and a fun casual atmosphere within walking distance of the hotels for our guests. We planned our wedding from out of state (which is challenging) so we relied heavily on the Prost staff and David during the planning process. He was easy to communicate with and helped us in selecting our menu for guests. During the event, staff were attentive to our guests needs and quickly flipped the room from drinks & apps to a sit down dinner. Everyone reported food and drinks were good and that they enjoyed the architecture of the building itself. The only real feedback I had was I wish the room/space we had was more private but again we planned from out of state so normally you would go in and tour a space. Do not believe the "made up" reviews that say the food is great and authentically German. It was absolutely the worst food I've eaten in ages. The rouladen and mashed potatoes and gravy should be served at a nursing home. No flavor or salt whatsoever. Rouladen should be fall apart tender. Mine was dry and tough as nails. The red cabbage should be pickled but was instead just cooked with no added flavoring of any kind and the sausages are not made in house and most likely come right off the Sysco truck. You know it's bad when not one of my 5 adult children could choke down their meal. So disappointing. Prost is a beautiful inside but should stick to serving beer and maybe a pretzel. (But change the gritty cheese sauce that is served with it.) I'd recommend the owner and cook take a trip to Germany and explore real German food. read more

So many things to love about Prost! I love a restaurant that FOCUSES on one cuisine and then does it well. Prost is all about German food and beer, and they do both quite well.
