Larry, Yannis, and Jon just say whatever they think you want to hear. The days where no work was done far out numbered days where someone actually showed up. The costs were much higher than what we were told. Several of their crews complained about how much of a mess Protech was. We were lied to several times. Much of the work had to be redone because we could tell it wasn't acceptable. I am terrified of the things we didn't point out. Nobody cared about the work and there was little to no supervision trying to help. A friend had ServePro out at the same time and it was way better. read more

I have used ProTech Construction services four times in the last 18 months and across three properties that I manage and/or own. One property was in the process of renovation, one house was inhabited by tenants, and the other two were vacant rental properties. Each time that I used their services Chris was the lead technician with whom I communicated. Chris has always been extremely accommodating in terms of the written details of his proposals. When I have asked for adjustments to the wording on proposals, he has always made those changes willingly before asking me to sign them. Communication has always been very straightforward throughout the process of the initial inspections, remediations, any post-remediation, including photographs of completed work, etc. In each case, although the circumstances have all been unique, I have emerged from the process with a better understanding of what the issues were, how they were successfully resolved, and was provided with reports that would properly document the work that was done for future reference. As anyone who has gone through the remediation process knows, it can be a very stressful time and a lot rides on its successful execution. I cannot begin to say enough good things about this company! I had to have a full kitchen and bathroom remodel. My shower pan failed and flooded my kitchen from upstairs. It took several years to acquire the evidence that Protech Construction used identity theft to get building permits following an unauthorized complete demolition of my home of over 60 years. Permit applications are reported to the Assessor's office so property taxes can be raised. My mother died in 2005, but the permits were obtained in 2017. I was never given the documentation to support the demolition and supersede the engineering report that stated only one room in my house was in need of repair. I was provided falsified demolition documents; the company had no knowledge of the of the work order number nor of my address. Vince Paglia sued me for defamation because of the first review I posted here. He dismissed the case after four years of silencing me, but can reopen the case if he finds additional evidence against me. My insurance claim was valued at $48K. Paglia was paid more than $250K for "repair" with the cooperation of the insurance company, Contractors State License Board, Department of Insurance, LA County Public Works building inspectors, and the Assessor's office. I think I was targeted because my insurance policy had "generous limits", I am a senior citizen, and a lone female with no prior experience of negotiating a large insurance claim. read more

Though my home was not in the middle of the Palisades fire zone, it did suffer considerable ash and soot damage. Dealing with our insurance company was very difficult and drawn-out, but Vince Paglia and Bubba Urdan were great. Their team came over to the house and documented all of the damage throughout. Vince and Bubba were very thorough and methodical in their approach and along with Chris, my project manager, they were great at lining up the various sources needed for our remediation project. The only barrier to the complete success of this project was our insurance company and their foot dragging, however Vince and Bubba worked with the obstacles which they had to deal with and showed great patience. I have to commend them for their great ability to communicate not just with us but with our insurance adjuster, which was absolutely necessary for the excellent outcome that eventually followed. I cannot agree more with all the awful reviews. Their worksmanship is awful and they were recently issued a citation by the contractor board in December 2019 for their shoddy work. I uploaded the picture of the citation against their licensing board number 485114. The citation is for "departing from trade standards". Don't say I didn't warn you. There's a whole blog about how they work with your insurance company to do poor minimal work and because the insurance pays them directly and everything is behind the scenes and you really have no say and are powerless. They charge your insurance for a bunch of things they never end up doing. Instead of being their customers advocate they kiss insurance's butt to do poor quality work to save them money, ruin your home, and then they are unethical as heck. The name of the blog with someone's really scary experience with them is pullingthreadz and they have several similar complaints on BBB. Do your research and check them out. My project manager Norbert was a nightmare to deal with. Rude and organized, never kept appointments. And the owner Vincent was even worse, absent, with a short fuse. Avoid them people. What a nightmare it has been for me to deal with this contractor. They are incompetent, unprofessional, unethical and sleezy. It is no wonder they are pending disciplinary action by the contractor board and have received multiple offenses by the board in the last few years for very bad worksmanship. Just look up their license number before you hire them and read all the offenses they have received. My insurance Liberty Mutual referred me to them. I understand why now. Who better to save the insurance carrier money than the master of all shortcuts, owner Vince and his company Protech construction. My project got so many citations and stop work orders from the City of Redondo Beach. I put some sample photos of the sloppy work they do in the review. Their deputy inspector wasn't properly credentialed and the City of Redondo Beach rejected their report. They busted a water line while working and I have a video of water going all over my front yard at full speed. Vince kept yelling that it's my water lines fault but I just watched with my own eyes that all their workers were stepping so carelessly all over my sprinkler system. In order to save money and not hire a licensed plumber, he also tried to have an stucco subcontractor work on my water heater during construction and damaged my $1000 Rheem water heater in the process and then blamed the manufacturer and asked me to have them fix it when it was a relatively new water heater that was working perfectly fine until their subcontractor without a plumbing license tried to work on it. And in the beginning of the project, Protech demolished all my stucco on my exterior walls and didn't put any barrier to protect my home or belongings. Imagine I had to argue with him to put wood panels to protect my home now that it had no walls so racoons, skunks, insects and even intruders wouldn't just get right in!!! It was utterly shocking. In order to save money on paying for wood panels, he wanted to expose my home to the elements, insects, rodents, and intruders. Vince and Protech also wanted to dump all the demolition debris right on my front lawn and green grass. I had to plead with my project manager that construction debris doesn't belong on my front yard where it will damage all my landscaping and after so much begging, Protech finally brought a dumpster for all the debris. My engineer had to teach Protech so many basic things like properly replacing wood subfloor so people do not fall through while walking over it. My engineer was shocked that they did not know how to accomplish this very basic task. They made so many unnecessary cuts in my subfloor because they were simply too lazy to do the work under the house (see photos). Their sloppy work caused so much collateral damage to the interior and exterior of my home which still makes me cry so much. The most basic common sense things they don't know how to do. It was absolutely exhausting dealing with all the shortcuts, and an absolutely horrifying experience overall. Too bad I cant upload videos here but I also have videos of the owner Vince screaming profanities at myself, and the city inspector because he was frustrated that he could not use all his usual short cuts to rip off homeowners. He even had the nerve to tell me one time why I am watching his workers. Well I did not want to end up like the woman on the pullingthreadz blog who ended up with an uninhabitable home after what he and Liberty Mutual did to it. I am an elderly woman and I still am so traumatized by how Vince verbally abused me with his very short temper and how Protech physically abused my home with their incompetence. We hired them per insurance recommendation 3 months ago. We're still waiting for them come cleanup We had a water leak in the kids room. Protech was one of the companies listed by insurance. Jeremy came right away and acted like he had our best interest but he turned out to be a con artist. Protech team constantly lies and goes MIA for weeks except when they want money. It's been months and they haven't even assigned a project manager. I recently just had back surgery and have been staying at my girlfriends to recuperate. Looking outside her sliding glass doors leading to her patio I noticed one of her main overhang beams {16 feet long} was sagging and literally ready to break in half. Should it have broken it would have smashed through windows it would have been catastrophic. There was nothing I could do because of my surgery so I went online for help. I reached out to three different companies, and only Chris from Protech got back to me in about 15 minutes and apologized for not getting back sooner, which an apology definitely was not needed. This was at 2:00 in the afternoon. He was able to line up his crew to come by her house the next day between 8:00 and 9:00. Right at 8:02 Ricky and crew showed up and within an hour and a half had the been shored up and completely safe to be around. I could not be more grateful for making her place safe. Another crew are going to come by in a few a days to replace the been. Protech was quick, efficient, professional and courteous. Chis and his guys came through with flying colors! We signed the contract with Eric Hansen and he saw that everything was taken care of properly and if there was any problem it was quickly resolved. The sub-contractors all did a good job. After a year i had a problem with my vinyl floor that was installed in my living room, I contacted Eric Hansen & he immediately went to work to have the floor repaired, he sent the original floor man Ramirez back to repair the floor in a timely matter. Protech was suggested by my HO insurance company many years ago to remedy flooding caused by a burst washing machine hose. The remediation fans, dehumidifiers, mold service, etc. were handled professionally and with frequent updates to me from scheduling and management. Earlier this year I had to make a claim, this time for damage caused by a wetbar shutoff valve leakage. I called Protech again, and again I was satisfied with their approach and completion of the job. If you have a choice on who is going to do your work, you are better off not calling Protech. In December of 2016 we had a water leak in our downstairs. The water damage affected the entire 1st floor; cabinets destroyed, floor had to be torn up and all but 2 walls needed to be cut and removed 2 feet high. In March Protech was hired to oversee the job of drywall repair work and painting, new flooring, and new cabinets with new appliances and countertop installed. Bernie Romej is the project manager. It is now October and I am still missing cabinet doors, the countertop has not been installed as well as the appliances. 7 months after Protech started this job and I still don't have a functioning kitchen. Bernie is filled with excuses, no returned phone calls at times, and forgetful scheduling. I have had my fill of no shows where I have had to cancel work to stay home waiting for these different contractors to show. The jobs (projects) between the drywall, flooring, cabinet, countertop and installers are taking weeks if not months before the next crew comes in. The longest period was over 2 months of nobody coming to finish the floor or the cabinets. Typically, a good project manager has the contractor start a job as soon as the the other contractor has finished. Not Bernie. Bernie at one point told me he had 22 different projects he was managing........... One time the flooring people were suppose to show up and didn't. Then they showed up and didn't have enough material, one time they even showed up and didn't know that they had to do a different area because Bernie didn't communicate this with them. Another time the people doing the cabinets came with the wrong size cabinets - they were too large and didn't fit in the kitchen. Guess who was doing the measuring - Bernie. So all the cabinet work stopped. Weeks went by before they ever came back - as a matter a fact I still have those large cabinets in my backyard because they did not take them with them. So now I am storing their junk as well as left over product they didn't use. I am still waiting for an opening to be cut so we can use a cabinet. Because the plywood for the counter top is screwed into place I can't get the large items that were placed in the cabinet before the plywood was placed on top and I am waiting for 4 cabinet doors - It has been over 3 months waiting for some of the cabinets to be installed while some of them were already installed. Now we are waiting for the countertop to be installed. They came out and told me it was going to be installed on a Monday, that Monday changed to a Friday (last Friday). Bernie had called and told me that they wouldn't be there to install the countertop because they didn't have all of the product and would have to reschedule to this Friday which is today and guess what? They came today to take more measurements and to take the sink to make a template so they could cut the hole in the quartz for the sink. They told me they would be back - that was at 10:30 this morning. It is now 4:17pm. Guess who is once again not getting their countertop - ME! I had called Bernie at 2pm today to ask when the fabricators were coming back. He told me he would call them and then call me back. 45 minutes later, I had to call Bernie because he had not returned my phone call. His reason - they hadn't called him. I asked to know who the fabricators report to, Bernie said they report to him. I Bernie who did he report to and he said the owners. I asked for the name of the owner and the phone number so I could get someone to talk to the fabricators about getting this work done. Bernie said the owners are out of the country....how convenient! We had our day in court. The judge said there is no doubt in his mind that ProTech was "Shotty" Contractors and did shotty work!! EXACT words from the judge! However he said we failed to bring current estimates from a contractor on how much it would cost to redo the work. We had old estimates from our 2 original contractors. Therefore he said he cannot award me any monies. ProTech admitted there wrong doings both at court and through emails, unfortunately we lost because we were not prepared. That doesn't change the fact that they did horrible work, constantly cut corners, rarely showed up. It took 3 and a half months to do a half of a bathroom and it needs to ripped out and redone. Also, ProTech counter sued us and said they were not paid in full, I actually did have copies of all cancelled checks and was prepared for that and proved them wrong. We won that Judgement. He failed to mention that. Vince was not in court, he didn't show, but sent to employees. Vince at ProTech only offered us $2500 to fix his mistakes and the cost is $7500. read more
