My first protein bar meal did not disappoint! I have been wanting to try protein bar for a while so I downloaded the app and was given a free entree promo to try it which was an awesome incentive! I ordered on the app and got the Japanese bbq salmon bowl, and added some kale and tomatoes for some extra veggies. I wasn't sure what to expect from the portion or freshness of the salmon but was actually impressed by the size of the fish and the fullness of the bowl. The dressing on this bowl was fabulous and it was a well balanced and fresh meal. Full price this came out to about $16, so definitely one of their pricier bowls. My salad totaled out to be about $12 with tax - but I felt the portion size matched it since it comes in a big bowl. We ordered online for pickup and it was ready on the shelf at the exact time we asked! Super easy to run down between meetings. I ordered the Harvest Salad, and I highly recommend it. It's packed with toppings and high protein to keep you full. My favorite parts were the goat cheese, brussel sprouts & roasted butternut squash - like fall in a bowl! I just wish the goat cheese was crumbles instead of a big dollop. Overall, this is a great little lunch spot that's not too overpriced. If I'm back, I'd love to try some other dishes! read more

It was the right size for breakfast and they gave an ample amount of guacamole. The price point for breakfast is nearly $6 so it is steep for a quick breakfast. Peaceful environment and great food! I stopped in during spring break week while in the area at 'Harold Washington College' which sits on the other side of N. State St. I took several minutes looking at their huge menu on the wall which consisted of a variety of vegetarian foods. That prompted me to question the employee at the register on what he recommends trying. I believe his name is Kenny, but my receipt says Carlos. Kenny recommended the 'Black Bean Bowl' because of what it had in it and also what I had the taste for. I visited this location 10 minutes until close and the employees did not have a problem with me staying until I finished which allowed me to relax and enjoy my bowl. For the employees recommendation, I'am not only a fan of Protein Bar & Kitchen, but also a fan of the 'Black Bean Bowl' and will most definitely stop in again for another round while at my college campus. First order (of many) I tried: - Quinoa chili (veg chili, cheddar & Greek yogurt) - Market (celery, apple, kale, parsley, spinach) raw juice Since then, I've tried a couple salads and three of their smoothies, which were all good. True, the lettuce was a bit wilted in one or two of them, and that was a bummer, but it is also hard to find non-wilted lettuce outside Northern California. Opportunities for improvement: use non-GMO, organic produce (because I'm not sure if they do). Also, perhaps tone down the sugar in some of the smoothies? I've seen Protein Bar throughout the city several times, but I never ventured in until recently. I"m a fan! To start, the menus here are very well laid out, and perfect for the hungry customer looking to satisfy not only their appetite, but to also meet their macros/caloric goals! The ingredients of the different food options here are laid out, along with a few alternatives/substitutes. In addition, I thought it was super helpful to see not only the calories of each dish, but also the protein content! Maybe this only appeals to a certain audience, but it was definitely a plus in my book! The Korean BiBi-Q dish I got was pretty tasty, although it tasted pretty similar to what I would have expected from reading the ingredients on the menu. I LOVED the avo-matcha smoothie, though (and have since tried to re-create it on my own)! It was creamy, refreshing, sweet, and fresh. I had bookmarked Protein Bar after hearing about it on an online food blog. When I finally made it out to Chicago, I knew it would be a must stop. We stopped by this location on our first day in the city. I love the interior design-- similar to Veggie Grill in CA. The menus were clearly placed on large TVs. The staff was friendly and helpful during our decision process. I ended up going with the Millennium Perk Smoothie with almond milk and vegan protein. The smoothie was perfectly executed. It was balanced with the coffee and chocolate flavors and definitely not too sweet. The next day, we sampled the Fruit Loop'd Smoothie, The Red Line Smoothie, and the Santa Fe Breakfast Burrito. Again, all the items were delicious! The burrito was a tad salty, but it was still filling and healthy. Protein Bar is located at the bottom of the Renaissance Hotel (where I was staying while in Chicago). I noticed the long lines during lunch and decided to try it out. Menu consists of smoothies, bowls, wraps, chilis, and salads. Thinking that a bowl would be more like a quinoa based - I ordered the Black Bean Bowl. SO DISAPPOINTED. It was literally a bowl of black beans with a sprinkle of cheese and quinoa. I could have made this myself by heating up a can of black beans at home! Could not bring myself to eat this after a few bites. Luckily I had ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad ($9.99) to-go also. The portion size was big, the salad was hearty and filling with ingredients like black beans, quinoa, and avocado. My only complaint would be the super spicy salad dressing. Luckily I got it on the side! But unless you like spicy flavors, ask for a different dressing! The best part of my Protein Bar experience was a smoothie! I ordered the Millennium Perk - which contained chocolate and espresso protein, milk, and cocoa malt. It was a delicious, creamy, chocolately, and lightly sweetened icy treat! I have often hear mixed reviews about this place as some say its great and others say it ok or it sucks. I checked it out for myself as my office moved nearby. I usually go to lunch around 11:30 to avoid any lines so the place had not filled up yet. I wanted to go with one of their bar-ritos so I chose the Capone. The Capone includes chicken, spinach, marinara, cheese and quinoa. Quite messy, but was pretty good. I tcame back a month later and got the Original Protein Bar-rito. Very tasteless as it was like eating air in a solid form. The OPB includes chicken, black beans, quinoa, cilantro & cheddar cheese. Weak and I was mad I spent money on it I will possibly go back, but will not get the OPB. People here seem pretty nice as well read more

For the most part I love protein bar. I love that almost all their smoothies can be made vegan and they have decent vegan options. It's really nice to be able to find vegan options with so much protein! However, this time I was a little disappointed by my smoothie order. The Big Date shake ended up being pretty bland (first time ordering it). It also wasn't blended very well, but I didn't mind too much because there were only a few small chunks of dates, which are delicious in any form. However, I really didn't like the cacao nibs in it--they were super hard and impossible to chew. Good thing they were small because they weren't pleasant. Normally I like cacao nibs; I know why these were so hard. I won't order this shake again, but I do want to come back and try the candy cane shake!! read more

We ended up ordering the Original Bar-rito. During the entire ordering process, I was highly impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. One associate suggested to enjoy some Cholula sauce with the Bar-rito. Great suggestion! The bar-rito was delicious. It tastes healthy, but not in a bad way. I used to love all the healthy options that this restaurant offered, but lately the veggies in the salads are simply rotten. I ordered a salad with avocado and was horrified when I brought it into my office-not only the entire avocado was brown, it had rotten moldy spots. We stopped in for a quick bite before a Cubs game during our trip to Chicago, and then literally ended up coming back for a meal or snack every day during our trip. I love Protein Bar. It is rare to find places that offer healthy vegan and non-vegan options. I think their menu is pretty evenly split between meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. I'm the type of person who knows what I like and will stick to what I like. I don't like trying new things, so I can only tell you about the Vegan Original Bar-rito and the Vegetarian Chili. Bar-rito's are so interesting. The way I describe them to my friends are that it's like panini meets burrito. I usually struggle with burritos because I run out of tortilla before I run out of food content, but bar-ritos are easy to eat, thankfully. I'm not sure what brand of vegan cheese they use but it doesn't have that plastic kind of feel or taste to it. Their vegetarian chili is really good too. I don't remember what meat chili tastes like, but the seasoning tasted pretty on point to me. I docked a star because it is kind of pricey for what you are getting. But, I guess I can argue that with all that protein and fiber, I'm usually full for a long time, so I save money on the snacks I would have been eating. read more
