We are out of town visitors and were in town for the 4th of July weekend. On the 4th we were on the hunt for ice cream, many shops were closed. We came across this shop and called. When we called, they mentioned they were closing soon but would stay open if we got there quickly. We were 5 min out and they did stay open! They were all so friendly and the ice cream was amazing. We are NOT vegan and had no idea it was a vegan ice cream shop until after we ordered. It was delicious! The sizes are pretty big. The shop itself is a little small, I would plan on ordering and enjoying on the bench right outside. Would recommend and would make an effort to visit next time we are in Chicago! read more

Love this place! The novelty treats are phenomenal, and the ice cream is delicious--I can actually enjoy it without ending up with a tummy ache. One thing to note: the husband can come across as a bit rude (ahole) at times, but the wife is incredibly kind and goes above and beyond to make customers feel welcome. The best plant based ice cream shop by far in the country! They had so many flavors and even had some hot food. The strawberry cheesecake snowstorm was super delicious and sweet! Wow this place is a true gem. My daughter and I made our way here from the north side to try this place for lunch and it did not disappoint!! Service was spectacular, the lady working was so welcoming and helpful as we made our choices. We both ordered the sandwich of the month which was amazing. I had a Klutz snowstorm which I found as creamy, rich and filling as the original. Well done. Only downside is no indoor seating or bathrooms, but it was a nice day so we sat outside. Was in the mood for ice cream and found Runaway Cow on Yelp and decided to check it out. Finally a warm night so there was a decent line but it moved quickly. No seating inside except for a bench. Benches outside though to enjoy. Tough decision to make but went with the turtle parfait. It is a vegan shop so the ice cream is made with oat milk. I couldn't believe how smooth the ice cream was! Plenty of pecans in every bite and the chocolate fudge couldn't be missed! Def a fan and will be on the look out for more vegan shops to try. read more

Runaway Cow's place is so colorful, and we noticed right away the staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in. At first, I was planning to try a shake, but then I spotted the chocolate and vanilla swirl and knew I had to go for it, so I ordered the largest size of the swirl, and I'm so glad I did because when I got home, I put it in the freezer and enjoyed it over the next few days. This is the cutest vegan ice cream shop! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would like some inside eating area but the benches outside are doable. I had the caramel apple biscoff sundae! Their soft serve ice cream in this is a wonderful texture and not too sweet. The caramel sauce, apples and biscoff crumbles make it perfect. The shop has very little seating if any, but there are benches right outside and Palmisano Park is just a short walk away. It's locally-owned and the owners are extremely friendly. However, they did a good job of making up for it with the candy add ins. Finally got in here over the weekend after hearing about it for months from my friend who lives nearby and has loved each item she's tried. I can't have dairy and therefore haven't had soft serve in many years. I got a hot fudge sundae with vanilla soft serve and nuts, and enjoyed it out in front of the shop in the very warm sun. It was so good! The creaminess of the ice cream is incredible. Definitely going back soon to try a cone, and who knows what else after that. They have so many appealing options on the menu. The family enjoyed their sundae treats even owner looked over her shoulder with a proud smile. One last thought came to my mind, what about dinner tonight? The vibe was chill so, I ordered everyone a classic Chicago Hotdog with chips to go, yes, the bun has poppy seeds on it. There are several cute benches outside the doorway. This is a new neighborhood ice cream shop in Bridgeport, and it's delicious! I grew up drinking fountain Green River soda at my local public pool in the summers, and they have Green River floats here! A true nostalgic delight. My kids (ages 11 and 9) also loved it. The ice cream tastes the same, if not better than the dairy counterpart. (There is a reason why oat milk creamer is amazing in coffee. It just works.). Everyone (vegans, lactose intolerant friends and ice cream lovers) can unite here and enjoy a tasty summer treat. One of the owners has worked in the ice cream business for over 2 decades, and her experience shows. She is also one of the kindest people on the planet. It's amazing to see more vegan places opening up in this neighborhood. We used to have to travel to north side or downtown to find good vegan spots. It's a great little spot, luckily walkable from our place. If you are planning to drive there, there are places to pull up in front of the store, and it hasn't been difficult to find parking in my experience. They don't have seating (yet!), but I think the neighborhood has plenty of parks and whatnot near them so you can enjoy your little treat on a bench while being outdoors. The items themselves are great, a perfect pick me up after work or at the end of your week. The people there are super nice! I will say, if you're going to order anything other than a cone, some of those are definitely shareable sizes. Just got the Oreo Brownie Treat, and had to share it. It was so good though! read more

Had a great time stopping in this vegan ice cream shop during a busy workday. I've been dairy-free for eight years and it was great to visit a place where I could eat basically everything on the menu (except for anything that also included gluten). The people who made our ice cream choices were lovely. I got a moose tracks sundae and my friend got one of the blended Blizzard-like treats. They were a great size for the price and tasted amazing--just like real dairy soft serve! Took off one star because ambiance/space could use some upgrading. In the cold cases, there were t-shirts and handwritten signs instead of ice cream or toppings. It was hard to know/understand what was available to order. And the bright lime green was overwhelming. I'd love to see this place take out the cold coolers and put some seating inside for super hot days. I also saw a sign noting they were preparing to offer hot food but I think that'd be a miss. They specialize so amazingly in ice cream and shakes that I think hot food would detract from their mission. Overall would definitely come back. But I wish they'd dig even deeper into exclusively providing amazing vegan desserts! read more

Third time returning to Runaway Cow. Incredibly kind staff, clean restaurant, and I think they have a great brand. Downside: we don't really care for the ice cream. Unfortunately we feel as though the ice cream is too icy and much too sweet. It's extremely sugary. We got an ice cream cake the last time we visited and were disappointed by the iciness of the ice cream as well. Sadly, the ice cream just does not have a good flavor. You would not want to eat it plain, it really depends on the toppings mixed in. We got a strawberry shortcake sundae before and it was so incredibly sweet and sugary that it was inedible. We loved their old food truck and we want to love this place too! Sadly, it just does not have a good flavor. Would much rather just get a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream from the grocery store.
