Again, I am a huge protein house fan and have been to probably 10 different of their locations through out AZ, CA, Vegas, KS etc. This franchise is a let down now. I live in Los Banos, but I was visiting Ceres yesterday and decided to make a totally out-of-the-way stop at Protein House in Modesto. I checked out the menu online beforehand so I'd know exactly what I wanted. Their website is colorful, vibrant, and super easy to read. When I arrived, I was greeted right away with a smile by the female behind the counter. I built my own chicken bowl with the Swole protein portion, brown rice, five different fresh veggies, and added avocado (worth the extra $2.00). I also ordered the Chocolate PB Crush protein shake. They were busy with in-store customers, DoorDash, and online orders, but my food was ready in about 10 minutes. When I got my bowl, I couldn't believe how big it was. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the shake was absolutely to die for. Even my two-year-old loved it - and he's a very picky eater. As an amateur bodybuilder who usually preps all of her own meals, it was such a relief to walk into a place and get a clean, macro-friendly meal without having to cook or bring my own food for the night. This place completely saved me. The environment was great, the bathrooms were clean, and the overall experience was excellent. This will always be a stop for me when I'm in town. I enjoy coming to this place. I like that they are protein forward and clean. There are not too many other places in Modesto where you can get healthy food. I have since tried the super bird omelette, the boss bowl, and the banana protein pancakes-- all of which have been delicious. My husband and I also tried an apple protein shake that was out of this world, and a protein shake that reminded me of a Butterfinger. This place is a must for people trying to stay inshape or workingout and don't want to feel guilty about what their eating, by the way, all the food is healthy and going to keep you on track with your goals. Protein House, what an expensive Joke! $21.95 for easily one of the worst Burgers I've had the misfortune of eating. I've been on the hunt for a good Burger in the Valley and I still have yet to find one. Now I can cook a mean Burger six ways to Sunday, but no one cooks every meal they eat ya? Restaurant product quality has taken a serious nosedive in recent years and Protein House seems to have embraced this sad fact. The Mrs wanted a "healthy" meal and I didn't have time to cook so she ordered what she called a Bison Bowl, haven't bothered to look it up as I had a bite and it was bland and boring. Luckily, I stock a full compliment of Huy Phong products so it wasn't a total loss. Still, $21.95?! My Cheese Burger, the one with caramelized onions, was beyond comprehension. I ordered a medium cook on the "grass fed" patty thinking that with travel time it wouldn't arrive over done. Best laid plans seem to bite me every time as the patty itself was a rainbow of doneness. The first bite was well done with each subsequent bite leading to less and less done. Upon reaching the other side, it was rare/raw. I'm not sure even the best burger meisters out there could duplicate this perfect comedy of incompetent cooking. The rest of the sandwich, from the Bun to the condiments, was completely unforgettable. Again, $21.95?! While I cannot speak to the quality or accuracy of their described ingredients, this establishment is just ripping off the unsuspecting with the promise of a tasty meal. The inside is new, fresh and has a very inviting appeal to it. There are about six or so tables for seating on the inside and a long tall table against the windows towards the back. They have a large menu full of healthy and tasty options that are sure to appeal to everyone. I believe the prices for the quality of fresh food you receive it pretty fair. The one benefit to this place over meal prep locations is that everything is made to order, which is important to some people. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with a side of fruit. I was presently surprised at the portion size the sandwich for only being 372 cal/36 carbs/11 fat and 30 protein. This was a very tasty sandwich for a healthy option and it was very filling. I really like the Protein House and am glad that Modesto has a place that offers fresh, made-to-order meals, use high quality ingredients, and are healthy & delicious. However, the last 3 times that I've ordered meals to-go, the meals were not up-to-par. **Disclaimer - when I go into PH to dine-in, my food has always been great! I always order the Omega-3 bowl with salmon, pickled cucumber, tumeric rice, avocado with 2 chimichurri sauces on the side. All 3 times I placed a to-go order, the food was disappointing. The 1st time, the salmon was so overdone that it was extremely dry AND missing the chimichurri sauce. The turmeric rice was perfection, though! The 2nd time, I received white rice instead of the turmeric rice that wasn't cooked all the way (I could feel the crunchiness of the raw rice grains), and the cucumber wasn't pickled and just chopped and unseasoned. :( Last night, I placed another to-go order and asked to sub-out the cucumber with tofu (knowing that there would be an extra charge for the extra protein) and received an Omega-3 bowl with tofu, avocado, and turmeric rice, but NO salmon filet. The turmeric rice was so overcooked and reminded me of baby food (very mushy consistency). I was so bummed out and extremely disappointed. I'm giving this place 3 stars because I like the layout of the place, the people who work there, and the potential it has to be great. Concept is good but execution is poor. I love the idea of grass fed beef and bison burgers! The menu has some great sounding options but again, the execution is what the problem is. I choose the GFB, grass fed beef burger and side salad. A bit pricey at $18 but figured it's the healthier meat so should be good. It was like a regular diners burger, soaked in grease, the bun was dripping oil it was so greasy. Kind of defeats the purpose of what I think the restaurant is going for? I'm guessing too the oil was not beef tallow or Ghee, probably Canola oil or a seed oil. The salad too has so much salad dressing I couldn't eat it, the taste was overwhelming, way too much dressing. To the owners - love the idea but need to clean up the delivery. If you want an idea of a restaurant that is getting it right, check out Heirloom in Fresno. I just genuinely enjoy Protein House in Modesto and visit a couple of times a week. From day one, the staff has always been nice to me. I've never felt like you had to be a regular to get good service. The food is fresh, made to order, and usually ready when I order ahead. Yes, it gets busy sometimes, and yes, I've had a few small mix-ups -- overcooked chicken, mixed fruit instead of all berries, or a little too much dressing on a salad -- but for how often I go, that's bound to happen once in a while. Overall, the quality is consistent and the portions are solid. And not going to lie, there's one cook in particular that when I see her, I already know the food is going to be AMAZING. The most recent time, my wrap didn't have sauce on it, the fries were somehow both raw and burnt, they forgot the fruit cup from my child's meal, and burnt the egg white which was sandwiched between pancakes rather than in a separate cup as it usually is, and my husband got a bison wrap, which usually has bison steak pieces but this time had a patty and it wasn't even cooked warm enough to melt the cheese on it, we also ordered the cucumber salad which is supposed to have sauce on it but it was just a cup of plain cucumbers. I am a first timer and found this establishment online while searching for somewhere with allergy safe options for a special takeout dinner. I ordered via delivery & my food was delicious and fresh, hot and fast. Delivery driver appropriate as well. I am putting so much trust in this company that it is really gluten free because It was the best tasting softest gluten free bun I have ever had. There was no sauce or grilled onion on my burger, I just thought maybe it was just not allergy safe, no biggie. I didn't have any issues with my order. I ate the whole huge burger -bun and all and have not as of yet had any issues/symptoms making me fear I have been "glutened". Actually quite the opposite, I feel happy and stuffed. The burger alone was more than enough for myself and my partner barely finished as well.
