That caused the pool solar to spray water toward the chimney. The mortar was falling apart in some places too, so water could potentially leak in through the sides of the chimney. They were quick and efficient and they left everything clean. They did a great job. They explained what they did and what they saw that might need work And at that point, they walked out the door with a five star review. Here's where it gets dicey. When they came, my flue was open. Being widowed I've learned to make fires but I have never opened or shut the flue. It was open when they got there and when they left the last thing they said was "OK now you can make a fire". But they didn't tell me that they had shut the flue or damper. I didn't know it was a thing until I made a fire and my house filled up with smoke. Opening all the doors and windows didn't work. The fire alarm kept going off. I couldn't make it stop. I shut the glass on the fireplace. Ended up having to call the fire department. I had to get my cats and throw them out in the rain and wait outside. The fire dept confirmed the flue was closed. They opened it and they brought in big fans to air the smoke out of my house. It's still smell smoky. The worst thing is this was super traumatic for me. I didn't know why the house was smoky I didn't know what to do. I didn't have my husband or anyone to help and I was panicked. It was a really horrible experience except for the hot firefighters lol. Based on that they would get zero stars so I gave them 2

After reviewing the damage, Marvin indicated that it could be rebuilt and upgraded. After securing all necessary parts, Marvin and his associate completely rebuilt and upgraded the fireplace. It is important to note that gas fireplace components and starter assemblies have been much improved in the last three decades. I highly recommend FTS for service, repair and upgrades.
