I contacted LaCassa to get estimates for two projects. During my initial call, I was informed there would be an $87 fee for a technician to come out and provide an estimate. That was not an issue because I was also informed the $87 would be credited back if I signed a contract to perform the work. During the visit, I was then told it would cost an additional $395 just to assess the issue in order to provide the estimate I originally requested, and that was for the first project. This charge was described as a "diagnostic charge.' From my perspective, I had already paid for an estimate as I requested in my initial phone call, when in reality I apparently paid for someone to tell me I'd have to pay more to get that estimate. That within itself was misleading. For the second project, I was given a price with a condition attached, essentially, the price only applied "if" nothing went wrong. I was then asked if I wanted to move forward with the work, without being told what the cost would be if that condition wasn't met. I understand this is an older home and things could happen, but you can't give me a conditional estimate without providing the cost for both sides of that condition. I did eventually get that information after raising concerns, but it should have been clearly communicated upfront, providing me with the big picture. Overall, the lack of transparency and clarity during the initial interaction led me to make the decision to not move forward with this company. Communication is key. EDIT TO CARMEN: I do understand the need for an in person evaluation. However, your response is relative to the dishwasher part of the request only. With that said, I've never had a company come out to provide an estimate without performing the steps required to complete that estimate. In this case, I was simply told that you'll have to pay $87 for a visit (all good), but then you have to pay an additional $395 to get that estimate (not good) when I could have been told that over the phone just as you typed in your reply. Leading the customer down the path of thinking they're going to get an estimate instead of stating up front there could be additional steps/costs required to get that estimate is misleading. That's an example of my transparency concern. In regard to the outdoor spigot part of the request. You didn't address giving a conditional estimate without providing the cost for both sides. I had to ask for that when it should have been provided prior to me being asked if I wanted to sign for the work. Of course I'm not going to sign without knowing both sides of the coin. That's an example of my communication concern. We all have different expectations and I simply want others to know what happened to me. It creates an awareness of what they may be up against if the tech comes across something that as you state, isn't 'normal'. It may also help someone know what questions to ask to help prevent it. I felt the need to clarify that my concerns were not related to the $87. They were related to the communication and transparency since your response only reframes what your process is. AVOID THIS COMPANY…read more I called on Monday regarding two plumbing issues in my condo - my shower valve needs replacing and my toilet is continuously running. These should be two simple tasks for even a rudimentary plumber. The secretary who answered the office phone to give me an estimated cost was courteous, well informed and friendly... that's about where anything positive ended. I called back the following day to set up an appointment and the phone was answered by a girl who put me on hold for literally every single question I asked and ultimately gave up and just transferred me to the secretary I had spoken to the day before. Clearly the secretary had been listening in because I was transferred within 2 seconds and she already knew everything I had said. Why are they making that poor girl answer the phone if she has no idea what is going on!? Then I set up my appointment for 6am on Friday. I did this intentionally because I actually have a job (shocking!!!!) and don't want to have to take vacation time to watch a plumber fix a toilet. (Might I add, the entire reason I picked this company to do the work was because I was thrilled that getting a 6am appointment was even a possibility). They asked me to text photos of the shower knob to the plumber's personal cell phone to ensure he had the correct parts on hand. I sent the photo along with a text explaining who I was and confirming that I was expecting him at 6am Friday. I got no response... in retrospect, that should have been my first clue. Friday morning 6am rolls around.... no-one shows up. Initially I thought okay well I'll give it time, maybe traffic. A full hour later I called the office number and got no answer (despite their website saying they opened at 6am... no-one was answering the phone at 7am). I then called the plumber's cell phone, again, no answer. I called back a second time to the office and left a voicemail explaining my frustration at the plumber's tardiness and how no-one communicated the delay to me. I then waited ANOTHER hour for someone to show up or call me back - NOTHING. By 8am (2 hours past my appointment time) I gave up and went to work. Finally, at 9am I get a voicemail from a completely unapologetic man saying that the plumber got sick and wasn't able to make it. I understand people being sick, but a phone call would have been GREAT so I didn't sit around waiting for hours. Then to put the cherry on top the man actually started telling me HOW TO FIX IT MYSELF. And then said if I was desperate to call a different plumber because they were too backed up and he didn't know what to tell me at this point. There wasn't even a single apology for making me wait around all morning. I'm sorry, I didn't realize when I set up an appointment for a "professional" plumber to come fix my bathroom that really that meant I'd wait around for hours only to get DIY instructions or pawned off to another company. How incredibly unprofessional!!!! I would think that a small business would live and breathe based on it's reputation and the satisfaction of it's customers. At bare minimum I would expect someone to offer to come out same day at no extra charge or to suggest an alternative solution that does not include me doing it myself or calling a different company. Good to know my business is so insignificant to them that they would rather send me to another company than try to fix their error. Seriously, avoid the hassle and unprofessional dealings at this place. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
