Tldr: great late night staple. Deserted island is the best fruity pie, imho. Ambiance: small place in cap, with not so much seating due to the space. But they definitely maximize the space. It's cozy, a bit run down the chairs are now just covered with a seat cover. And it's only steer parking if ur driving. Ambiance: pretty chill service, we were the only ones there, gossiping late at night. He pretty much left us alone since we entertained us and gave us the check just when we were ready. Food: Im normally a chocolate dessert person, but the chocolate pie was a light chocolate. If you want a rich chocolate pie, this is not your pie. Honestly, the star of the show was deserted island. I don't normally like fruit pies but that's what I'll be ordering again. It's not too sour nor is it too sweet, everyone at the table agreed. Only complaints were 1) upon ordering at the window we couldn't see the price of the savory pies, which also wasn't available on their website, 2) my meat savory pie was barely warm when my partner's sweet pie was warmer... this is when we immediately took out the pies and started eating at the table on the sidewalk... The amount of time it took to try this establishment plays a part in the two star review. Multiple attempts were made at the Ballard location, before they finally posted a sign stating it was closed permanently. As that was the closest location, it was disappointing. Next up was the Phinney location. After two attempts during business hours to arrive to a sign saying they were closed that day, without warning... told me maybe this was not the business for me., Very determined, we decided to make a last attempt and head downtown to the seattle location. I'm saddened that I did. The very tiny place seemed more like eating at a counter in your grandma's outdated kitchen. The large amounts of dust and unwiped surfaces spoke volumes. The ambiance was of a first day opening of a restaurant closed for many months, who just opened the doors prior to a cleaning overhaul. Lastly, regardless of how the pie tasted, it was hard to get passed the presentation. This place is definitely a drunchies type of stop. Also a karaoke bar, wish I was there for that! Sitting here staring out the window feeling very 2005. Chicken Pot Pie - 9/10 very good with hot sauce Deserted Island Crumble - love the tart berries / sweet icing / buttery crispy crumble combination Strawberry Pietini - this drink was so cute but deadly. The server said there's about 3 shots in this glass and you can definitely tell. Powder sugar rim? Tastes like flammable strawberry milk. I think this place would be an amazing pit stop if one is stumbling from the bars and clubs down the street. Prices are fair. The inside is moody and intimate, a bit cramp but it's cute. The shop itself is wedge-shaped like a slice of pie. I was lucky to get in as the earliest customer on a working day. The tiny, obviously well-worn, hewn wooden bar at which high stools were positioned chock a block tightly, gave me prime view of the impossibly tiny work space in which old time electric ovens are bonafide baking pies. This feels like a throwback to the 1990s Seattle of grunge yore, not this sterile glass steel edition full of vacuous corporate tools. The bar would feel crammed and impossibly tight when full but it did have hooks beneath for your bags. Yay. The bar workers seem like good natured working stiffs who were in this ship's galley of a kitchen/bar for soul satisfaction, rather than for the glamor. I endorse. This place has street-food charm, and sometimes that feels good but at other times, you just want a more sophisticated bistro experience, and that it aint. So be warned. The pie I had included marrionberries and other sour berries to temper the apple. It was such a mountain of sugary decadence that I should have stopped after three bites. But I had, rightly, ordered the vanilla ice-cream on the side and couldn't let it run through my portage as I still had to get to a ferry and get home...an ordeal of several hours. Hence I wolfed down the whole mountain of fruity/pastry dessert. Don't come here if you are on a diet. Come here if you have some one to split a huge slice of pie overflowing with sugary fruit! Not sure why I don't give this place a 5 star rating. Maybe it was just that I was expecting something more home-made, sedate, and retiring with the sugar. This was a bit of a sweet punch. I've been wanting to come here for a while, and after all the anticipation, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Before walking in, I witnessed one of the employees taking a joint from a customer and smoking it. I get it, it's Capitol Hill, but to be working and doing this is insane behavior. I got The Desserted Island Crumble pie. For a place named Pie Bar, the pie was served in a to go box that resembled mush. It was unclear what was fruit vs crust. At the very least, it was sweet and warm, but honestly I could've just gone to my nearest grocery store and grabbed a slice of apple pie and it would've been better than paying $10 for this. It was so disappointing that I didn't even bother snapping a picture. The interior is small and old, the bar counter is cramped and you can barely fit through. The seats at the table are a dirty yellow fabric. The music is loud with bass amplified. I can see this place to be a good place to grab an alcoholic dessert drink or a place to start your night out in Cap Hill, but since I only ordered a pie, it was a weird non-alcoholic dessert ambiance for me. It was also hard to have a conversation over the bass. Overall just not the ambiance I am looking for when grabbing dessert, but maybe I'll consider giving Pie Bar a try again if I'm in the mood to try their Pie Tini drinks. read more

I absolutely love the pb&J pie. If you want a rich, decadent, creamy pie then stop by Pie Bar! My stomach can't really handle these pies anymore but I can't stop eating them. One is not huge in size but rich enough to feed and satisfy the sweet tooth of 2-3 people. The uber dropped us off right in front and we walked in and were welcomed right away. Everyone was enjoying themselves and singing along to karaoke. My type of place to be honest. I ordered a slice of apple pie which was brought out quickly and I asked the bartender/pie guy if they had any ice cream and he said yes and gladly took my piece to add some. The pie was nice and warm with a good crust filled with apples and paired well with my vanilla ice cream. I absolutely enjoyed it. The whole vibe of the place was friendly and met people quickly with whom I ended up singing several song with. One of the girls and guys there were such good singers! I had such a great time! It's a short walk from SpringHill Suites where we were staying so we didn't have to look for parking- but I don't think there was much parking available. Not long after we were seated a long line formed behind the 'velvet rope' waiting to be seated. We felt rushed to leave. Unfortunately, the recommended seasonal peach pie was soggy- (more like watery) and had a weird artificial aftertaste. It could be a bad batch or peaches were overripe (tasted fermented). They replaced it with apple pie, which was also underwhelming (and that was the safe option). The pies were dated on the paper container and felt like they were microwaved to warm. Not worth the price per slice. I am offering 2 stars because the peanut butter pie was good and the staff was so sweet. But the overall experience for me was not great. Interesting spot. The space is clean and has cool decor and lighting, but it's small and gets crowded. My party of 3 got a table, but we were short one chair and they didn't have any more, so I had to stand until another party left. We shared the Apple Crumble and the Desserted Island Crumble pies. The crumble itself was nice, buttery, and crunchy. The apple pie had caramel on it and the filling was sweet as well, so the sweetness got a bit overwhelming after a few bites. The Desserted Island pie was a bit better because there was some tartness to balance out the sweetness and butteriness. The pies were also not completely heated through when they got to our table: the crumble on top was warm, but the filling was room temperature. Service was good. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
