This place was so good! I got the hokkaido milk & matcha swirl with m.b.r. I wished that I just got only the hokkaido milk since the matcha was lacking the matcha flavor. The mochi was soft & a little chewy. The brown sugar & kinako (roasted soybean powder) was a good addition & didn't overpower the icecream. You order from the window & they made it right there, so it was quick & efficient. There's no indoor seating, but there benches in front. Overall, I definitely will come back for their hokkaido milk soft serve.
The best Hokkaido Milk soft serve of my life! Indigo Cow introduced Hokkaido dairy to Seattle. You have to stop by and try their Hokkaido Milk soft serve! So rich, creamy, and milky in an amazingly indescribable way. A must-try! If milk isn't exactly your thing, they've got a few other soft serve flavors and swirls. They also have a lot of fun toppings, so customize as you please!
After dinner nearby, we stopped by Indigo Cow for dessert. I've been here before at their LA location and tried the matcha and Hokkaido milk swirl. I wasn't impressed by the portion size or how diluted the matcha tasted, but I still remembered enjoying the Hokkaido milk soft serve. REGULAR - 6.50 + Hokkaido Milk +2 for M.B.R (Mochi + Brown sugar syrup + Roasted soybean powder) The Hokkaido milk soft serve was smooth, creamy, and subtly milky without being overly sweet. The flavor itself is pretty mild, so I'd definitely recommend adding the M.B.R. The mochi was a bit stale, but the brown sugar syrup added a nice depth of sweetness, and the roasted soybean powder gave the soft serve a nutty, toasty flavor. These two toppings definitely elevated the soft serve for me. Overall, a quick and casual dessert spot in the area. We sat at one of the tables outside and enjoyed our soft serve.
Indigo Cow is a soft serve shop that really surprised me in the best way. I'm usually a little skeptical of soft serve places since they often use nasty-looking mix, but I'd heard they use milk from Hokkaido, Japan, which is known for its dairy, so I came in expecting something rich -- and it absolutely delivered. They offer two flavors, Hokkaido Milk and Matcha, and I went with the swirl because I wanted the best of both worlds. I usually prefer my ice cream plain so I can focus on the flavor itself, but they do offer mochi and syrup toppings if you want to dress it up. I was actually a little surprised to see the strawberry syrup was sold out, which weirdly made me even more intrigued -- but in the end, I still stuck with the ice cream as is. The shop itself is a small pickup window attached to a larger Japanese restaurant, and it seems like a very cost-effective way to run the business. It also appeared to be operated by just two people, which made the whole operation even more impressive. When I went, there was a long line that stretched a good way down the street, but the wait moved quickly -- I spent about 15 minutes waiting to order and had my ice cream within minutes. The Hokkaido Milk was the standout for me: incredibly rich, creamy, and smooth. As someone who loves a good vanilla profile, I was very into it. The Matcha was also done really well, with just the right bitterness to balance the sweetness and complement the milk. I tried to isolate each flavor in every bite so I could appreciate them on their own, and I'm glad I did. By the time I finished, I was completely satisfied, but low-key wanted another round. I exercised great self-control though :D

Line moved quick-ish. I got the crème brulee, it's good for the novelty of potato on ice cream but lowkey would not get again. I really liked the Hokkaido milk soft serve but having mashed room temp sweet potato on it was an interesting texture experience. It was good enough to try once where I don't regret getting it because I was curious but would probably get something else next time! It's a fun place to take your friends to since Hokkaido milk soft serve seems pretty rare!
I'm not an ice cream fanatic. It's usually not my go to dessert. But since I heard this is made with Hokkaido milk, I wanted to try. It is amazing! Idk if it's placebo effect or really good. But I love it and would eat again if ever in the area. I tried the swirl and usually I'm not even a big matcha fan but this was very good! It was strong matcha taste but smooth and not super grassy or gritty. I added the MBR topping. The mochi was okay, a bit flavorless. But I loved the brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean. We waited In line outside. It is serve through a pick up window. And then you can have a seat outside. If the line wasn't so long. I would get more lol. Next time get two!

With a base flavor of Hokkaido milk, and a twist or separate flavor of the day (matcha our day), the soft-serve ice cream comes with a small variety of toppings available: strawberry or mitarashi dango, served either in a cup or a waffle cone. We'll be going back.

The menu isn't huge--just a handful of flavors with some toppings you can add. Given all the hype around this place, I was expecting something really special. We tried a vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge sauce and another with brown sugar and mochi. The texture was definitely thick and creamy, but the flavors themselves felt quite subtle, and I didn't find them particularly memorable. Overall, it was a decent ice cream experience, but I personally didn't understand the level of hype. Good texture, pleasant enough, just not the standout dessert I was expecting
Wow yummy! Stopped by on a Thursday around 8:15pm; the line snaked around into the parking lot by Yoroshiku. We ordered by 8:45pm, so not too bad of a wait. The girl working was very friendly, big props to her for doing it all solo. Got the small in a cup w MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soybean powder). Came with 4 mochi and an adequate amount of syrup and powder. I'd prob give this 4 stars. Even though a cone is $1.5, I do think there's a bit more ice cream. Friends got the yaki-imo brulee soft serve, which I tasted and thought was DELISH. The sweet potato topping was so tasty, and I felt like it cut through the flavor/texture fatigue of just hokkaido milk ice cream. 5 stars yum!!
I tried matcha swirl. The body was smooth. The matcha flavor was not obvious, unlike those from Nana. The line was long, but it didn't take long to go through. There are some tables on the side of the street.
I love ice cream. I love soft serve. I love creamy & cold treats. And this place deserves all the hype it gets. The soft serve is so creamy & delicious. The waffles cones are always fresh & I love the slight hint of sweetness. Who knew that milk from Japanese cows would make all the difference?! Toppings are delicious! The roasted soybean powder is the perfect addition. The MBR is my fave! Service at the walk up window is easy.

I had seen this ice cream is a must try while in Seattle. It sounded unique so I had to try it before leaving town. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. I honestly didn't realize this was a window shop. We walked into the neighboring restaurant thinking it was attached. Once we figured out it was outside and a window it was easy to navigate. There was a small line but we were helped pretty quickly. The menu didn't have a lot of options. A few flavors add-ons. I went with the Hokkaido milk flavor because I wanted to see if i could taste the difference. First bite it was really milky tasting but the smoothest creamiest ice cream ive ever eaten. The more you eat the more you start to notice a subtle difference. To me it was unique and very enjoyable. I would definitely want to stop by and try other flavors next time im in town. Being they only have a few locations across the US makes this even more special. Thank you for bringing this one of a kind ice cream to the US for us to experience here. read more

It was good but not that good. This place is expensiveeee. Tbh the dark chocolate was the best part for me. You would think the soft serve would be the star of the show but nope it truly was that delicious chocolate. This is a busy walk up window with a line always but I got lucky and the line moved quickly even though there were groups ahead of me. The staff member who assisted me was very quick and friendly. I noticed the menu on the window might've not been updated as it said they had no black cones available however everyone was ordering it and it sure was available. I ordered the regular sized Matcha Hokkaido swirl with dark chocolate in a black cone. So the regular size is like 6.50 or $6.95 something like that. Then add the matcha flavor that's an upcharge of $1.50, also doing swirl (two flavors) is another $1 upcharge. I added the dark chocolate as well which was another $1.50. Also the black cone I got I think had an additional charge too. Once I tipped I paid $13 and change which is almost nearly $14. Expensive. The dark chocolate was rich and amazing. The matcha like other reviewers say lacks boldness and is pretty bland. If you've been to Nana's you will be disappointed. I feel the same way about the Hokkaido as it isn't as creamy or rich in flavor or milky like you would expect. The Hokkaido is more on the sweet side and doesn't stand out. The black cone was cute but no noticeable difference in flavor. I just think for the price it just wasn't worth it. I prefer a place like Baiten over Indigo Cow. Your choice if you want to give this place a try as it isn't bad but I just think it's simply not worth it for the price. The only stand out thing for me was the delicious dark chocolate and I still wouldn't come back for that. read more

Even on a cold day there was a line, and rightfully so. Their Hokkaido milk based ice cream is light but creamy. It's almost a literal hole in the wall, it's a small booth within a restaurant, but you order at the outside window. There aren't many options so you don't have to be indecisive! Hokkaido soft serve topped with MBR (mochi, brown sugar, and roasted soybean powder) is the classic order 10/10, but you can be adventurous! The yaki imo brûlée is a seasonal one (not sure how long it'll be around for) but it's basically a sweet potato mash topped with sugar and torched, a balance of creamy and crunchy from the burnt sugar- I personally liked the OG better but this was a good twist I'd like to try the matcha next time I'm around ! read more

Tried this place while a friend was in town. Pretty long line but it does move. Menu is limited and a bit pricey but the hokkaido soft serve is pretty tasty. They have some outdoor seating too which is a plus. ried both a soft serve (matcha hokkaido swirl/mix) with MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean), a side of dango, as well the creme brulee soft serve which was really unique and tasty and in my opinion, worth the hype of coming here to try this place. The dango was OK but the soft serve and the MBR toppings were also tasty. Definitely a nice little treat! I know that there is a seasonal rotation, so may not be matcha if we were to come back. read more

The first ice cream shop in America to make soft serve with milk from Hokkaido! We got the swirl with a waffle cone and added Shiratama Kuromitsu Kinako for the toppings! I think without the added toppings, the ice cream itself is a little bland. I had expectations it would taste like Cremia in Japan, but that's too high of an expectation. The waffle cone was really good though. It's pricey for what it is but worth trying! read more

I waited 30 minutes in line for soft serve and would absolutely do it again. Indigo Cow is a tiny walk-up window on 45th, glowing with a neon blue cow sign, attached to Yoroshiku /secret fort. We went with the yaki imo brûlée: sweet potato soft serve with a caramelized sugar crust torched right on top. Warm and crunchy on top, cold and smooth underneath. It's a small menu and a two person operation, which explains the wait. The line doesn't lie. Go early, be patient, get the brûlée. read more

Saw indigo cow on tick tok and I had to try it out! They apparently get their milk shipped straight from Hokkaido which is pretty cool. It's an order window only so we had to stand in line for a bit. I got the seasonal yaki imo brûlée which was amazing. It was the Hokkaido vanilla soft serve with a layer of sweet potato, and then brulee'd like creme brûlée!! It was sooooo good. Staff was very friendly and worked so quickly! There was one person managing the whole stand! read more

Honestly pretty plain and not that many options, but they had also already run out of the MBR and crème brûlée toppings by 7pm, so maybe that would've been better. Also, they seem to cut off the line at least 30 minutes before closing if not earlier, so be aware of that if you're planning to visit read more

We actually went here back in January. It was my first time in Seattle. And my bf made it a point to visit this place. He's the one that's actually been wanting to go visit this spot. It's a tiny hole in the wall ice cream spot. Keep in mind, it was hella cold already when we went and we still managed to get an ice cream in that weather. But the hype was actually worth it. There was no one there we went mid afternoon. I forgot which flavors we got. But it was really good like hands down, best ice cream I've had and it's sweet but not the type of sweet where you'll regret it. It was definitely worth the hype. Indigo Cow is a a little hole-in-the wall spot for Hokkaido milk ice cream! On two separate trips to Seattle, I somehow ended up at Indigo Cow because it was that good.! As mentioned previously, it is a small shop with pretty much just one person manning the machine and cashier! So it is quite easy to see why there would be a line that builds. But they literally just serve one product so the line does move fairly quickly. Customers will order and then there is some parklets for enjoying ice cream not too far from the shop. I would have to say that I enjoyed my first trip slightly more. I was with my family so was able to try a few varieties of their standard soft serve. The consensus was that the yaki-imo (baked sweet potato) was our favorite. There is the bruleee'd sweet potato with the cool creamy cream that was so velvety smooth! On the second trip, we got the melon and milk soft serve which was okay, but I think I would have preferred just the milk. The parking can be a little difficult in the area depending on the time of day, but able to find if you are willing to walk a little. Overall, Indigo Cow serves a cool treat worth the calories especially if you are able to get the yaki-imo! read more

Very limited menu but was excited to try the viral Hokkaido Milk ice cream at Indigo Cow. This is still in its popular era so expect a long line even on a weeknight. They have about 4 options with various limited toppings. I tried the crème brûlée ice cream which was topped with a sweet yam custard, not as good as I was hoping for, but definitely unique. We also tried the Matcha swirl with dark chocolate topping, and the Hokkaido milk with strawberry topping. The ice cream is quite a bit lighter than regular soft serve which I enjoyed. read more
So happy for stumbling upon this place! Now I can enjoy Hokkaido soft serve anytime without waiting until my next trip to Japan. The only downside is that the line is usually long, though it moves at a decent pace -- the longest we've waited was about 20 minutes. You basically just order through the window and there are a couple outdoor table/benches to sit on. I had the Hokkaido milk soft serve with dango and kinako, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. Definitely worth stopping by if you're craving a sweet treat :) read more
Last time I had here was back in 2022 when both Secret Congee and Drunken Chicken were still nearby in the Wallingford neighborhood where this location still stands. Now it's closer to both Yoroshiku and shares a spot with Secret Fort (whoops it's not secret anymore once I said that). There's not any kind of interior to sit inside per se, you just have a bunch of outside tables you could potentially sit at or you could just stand and eat your ice cream that way. I got their regular Hokkaido milk ice cream in a cup, and got their M.B.R as my topping, which consists of mochi, brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean powder, all for $2 more. My grand total was close to $10 for a cup of really high quality ice cream with superb toppings. Consistency of the ice cream was heavenly and overall really silky. Taste was sweet but not overly, surprisingly. Mochi was nice and chewy, syrup added another tint of sweetness that blended with the ice cream, and the soy bean powder added another kind of sweet and nutty flavor that complemented everything. Lots of people lined up for this place, even going as far as waiting about 10+ minutes for the server to come back from his break; this was about the same amount of time it took for me to finish my ice cream because I wanted to savor every bite. I was looking for dessert after dinner and this came up in my search and had appetizing photographs. They have a Walk up window where you place your order. I got the Matcha in a charcoal waffle cone with MBR2 topping. The balls were awful. I didn't enjoy this place personally. The matcha ice cream and the charcoal cone was not too bad. They were making charcoal cones and only had one, so I got the charcoal and the other person in my party got a regular cone (and that was nasty and super hard. I tried it myself after they said there were going to throw theirs away, and confirmed it was. I Do not recommend you to get the regular cone. Just wait for the charcoal cones to be made) read more

Went on a Saturday at 7PM-ish and waited about 20-30 minutes to get our ice-creams. Really pricey (~$18) for two of these ice-creams. I would say that it's worth it for the experience, but I wouldn't necessarily see myself going back to this place. The ice-cream is definitely creamy and not too sweet, but I do wish the mochi had a bit more flavor as it seemed like it was just added for texture. Nice soft serve place to try! They specialize in Japanese soft serve, which tastes good! I had their Hokkaido soft serve with hard chocolate shell in a waffle cone. The soft serve was creamy, but wasn't as sweet as I'd like it to be. The hard chocolate shell went nicely with the soft serve. The waffle cone was good, but didn't taste that fresh. The service was okay. There was only one employee working and there was a long line. They should really have at least two workers on the weekends. The ambiance is okay. There's no indoor seating, but there were some outdoor seatings which were limited. read more
Having passed this place plenty of times of times in my neighborhood and often times seeing the huge line, I'd always been curious to try it. One nice summer weekday, on the whim and while the line was short, I gave it a shot. I wanted to try both of the popular offerings here, so of course the 'swirl' was in order. This was also recommended by the server. This included the Hokkaido soft serve and the matcha. The ice cream itself is very rich and holds together, It wasn't the hottest day but it wasn't all melty. The flavor is subtle, not real sweet like your average Dairy Queen serving. The Hokkaido again has a subtle sweetness, and the Matcha has a bold, vibrant flavor that's a mix of earthy, grassy, and slightly bitter notes, with a smooth umami finish. The ice cream here is perfect for someone who doesn't want something that's too sweet and has a very rich creamy taste. read more
This was my first time trying Hokkaido ice cream! Unfortunately the only flavor they had was milk, as they ran out of their second flavor, pistachio. For a rainy cold Sunday I was surprised they were out of the second flavor. We paid extra for the sauce, seasoning (forgot what flavor but it tasted mildly like peanuts) and mochi. The mochi was flavorless. I think more flavors and toppings would be nice to see. read more
