So YUMMY! The mango salad with tofu feast was such a different flavor - tangy, sour, sweet - a flavor bomb. The massaman curry had strong flavor. Excellent service and very good food at Pru Thai! I enjoyed my Massaman Curry, but my husband's noodle dish was outstanding. He normally orders Drunken Noodles, but the waitress suggested a different noodle dish, also spicy and with beef. It was excellent and I'm sure he will order again the next time we're there. My Son raves about Pru Thai...one of his top favorite places. He had us psyched to try it! Three of us stopped in for dinner on Tuesday night around 6pm-ish. Opened our wine and pondered the menu. My Son already decided even before we stepped in the restaurant just what we were going to order. And we let him take the lead. We were asked what level hot spice we desired. We chose the number 1 as I don't like too spicy. Even at that, it was spicy. Not sure how anyone could go much higher and still taste their food. Hmm. Anyway, we started with the fried tofu. The dipping sauce made that good. Otherwise it would have been a bit tasteless...but that's tofu for you. We shared two dinners...Massaman curry seafood and 2nd was the chili noodles with veggies and tofu. Both nice choices but once and done for the seafood massaman curry as the calamari was too chewy and not enough rice. The curry broth was excellent...I could have used it as a soup. Our second entree...chili noodles were very good. Not quite what I expected. I think I expected more noodles actually. It had lots of good ingredients and sauce was delicious. All three of us were full and felt we ordered just the right amount of food. The restaurant, like most these days was noisy but still able to hear our conversation. Tables are very close together. Service was efficient and friendly except we barely started our appetizer and our main entrées were brought out. Timing was off. Kinda felt rushed to turn the table over. The drunken noodle tasted more like what I would have expected the pad see ew to taste like, but still enjoyed it. To start, I ordered the Pru Thai Combo appetizer, which was on the pricier side but absolutely worth it. It came with a wide variety of bites, each one packed with flavor, and it was a great way to sample different things before the main meal. For entrees, the chicken tamarind was incredible--light, crispy chicken covered in a mild sweet sauce that had just the right balance of flavors. It was so good I would recommend it to anyone on their first visit. I also tried the drunken man noodles with seafood, and that dish was just bursting with flavor. Very very tasty and a slight twist on what we've had before in that in addition to pineapple this one also contained orange slices. Pru Thai is the third in this local chain of now 3 kitchens in western Jersey (Pennington and Clinton being the earlier locations). Right on Bridge Street, a block from the blue steel truss spanning the ice crusted flow, it has the right colors, accoutrements, black & white tile floor and excellent service that gives warm ambiance to Thai culture. All that and real good food, too. We arrived early enough to avoid the crush of popularity, and had our choice of tables in the deep narrow dining room. Warmly greeted, we sat for a few reviewing the standard and Restaurant Week menus; deciding to go with the deeper list of daily dishes. Son went with Green Curry w Chicken, while this old man opted for Drunken Man Noodles w Beef (Pad Kee Mao), moderate heat and Tom Kha Soup w Veggies and Tofu. Everything was delicious. The curry was rich and creamy with nice texture from the chicken and greens. The soup strongly reported of galangal root and less of coconut, but an enjoyable interpretation of the breed. The Drunkens were hot and tasty from the fresh ingredients, tender beef and chili/lemongrass sauce. All the while, service was offered by all the servers with smiles and grace. We hung around long enough for sweet dessert as the house filled with customers. The papaya salad was decent--nothing groundbreaking, but solid if you're going by traditional standards. The real standout, though, was the Crying Tiger. Our waitress recommended it, and she did not steer us wrong. The beef was incredibly tender, and the slightly spicy, umami-rich sauce brought everything together. Honestly, I'd make the hour-long drive from Central Jersey just to have it again. The black noodles were also tasty, though I found myself wishing they had a bit more heat. The Chinese broccoli, on the other hand, was a bit too bitter and could've used a touch more cooking. Service was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout--and on a random but appreciated note, the bathroom was absolutely gorgeous. The sister restaurant to the Clinton Pru Thai this place is more intimate and cozy. Food is just as good and service is fast paced. You can't make a reservation but they will take your name and add you to their list. Love the Thai iced tea and remember this is a BYOB. Pad Thai is tasty and I like to order it spicy. Drunken noodles were good but could have more of the wok char flavor incorporated. Massaman curry is delicious along with the papaya salad. Have been to Pru at least 6 times. Food is always good. Went in on a Thursday evening about 7:30 to grab a quick dinner, I was dining alone this time. Server said they wanted to close asap because it was slow and could I order quickly. I couldn't help but feel rushed throughout the meal. Now I ask you, is that anyway to treat a customer, especially someone that has dined there often enough ? Customers don't want to hear you complain it's been slow and we want to close early. Then-- another couple arrived. They were seated right next to us-- in an empty restaurant. 15 mins later, same thing, a couple was seated right next to us on the other side of us. My wife and I decided to give this restaurant a try after driving past it numerous times over the past few months. As locals, we always aim to support small businesses in the area, and we were genuinely looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, our visit left us extremely disappointed--particularly due to the poor customer service. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't very busy, but there was a large group of about eight people seated nearby who were being loud and discussing inappropriate, sexually explicit topics. I have tolerance for people, but calling your wife a "little sl#t" put me over the edge.... It made the dining environment uncomfortable for us. We politely asked our server if we could move a few tables away. Her response was dismissive--she gave us a snarky remark and told us we could move, but didn't offer any help. We ended up moving our own plates, which was no big deal, but her attitude set a negative tone. After finishing our meal, which was honestly average at best, we asked for the check. The waitress responded with a sarcastic comment, something along the lines of, "You're already done and you wanted to move?"--followed by laughter, as if it were all a joke. Sadly, that exchange confirmed we won't be returning. Good customer service goes a long way, and in this case, it was severely lacking. As locals we felt dismissed and unwelcome. read more

My family has been eating Thai food since the '80's so I'm feel knowledgeable about how it should taste & be presented. The stuffed shrimp was a new addition for us and it was great (crispy & flavorful). The disappointment came when my husband received his Drunken Man noodle dish with hardly any noodles! Everywhere I have eaten this dish it's a plate/bowl of large flat noodles with an amazing sauce. Here it had random sized small bits of noodles. Not cool. We asked them for more noodles and she tried to explain it away as "their portion size". I said it was the amount of food but the imbalanced ratio of noodles to pork & sauce. In addition it was dry. They did take it back and returned with a few pieces of flat noodles broken into it. I ordered the Duck Chu chee which the server told me was the spiciest of the curry. It was NOT. While very tasty it was only mildly spicy at best. The half duck had flabby not well rendered skin. While it looked pretty it was not pleasant or easy to eat. I had to pick up the little thigh section to try to get the meat off the bone. All in all, I won't be back but the servers and owner were very nice and did try to resolve our complaint. I've eaten here quite a few times and have always had good experiences except the last time I was there. I reunited with friends who I met in Thailand and share a love for Thai food. We hadn't seen each other for a while and thought Pru Thai would be perfect to meet. It was a Wednesday night . The food was good as usual. But the service was not. It was surprising, given that i recognized the servers , who had always been friendly and efficient. We lingered given how long it's been since we've seen each other and how far some of us drove, We met atiund 6:30 PM and about 8PM it was obvious they just wanted us to go home. The whole meal felt rushed by the service. They tried to take my soup before it was finished. They took our waters off the table without asking. I've server poured our wine (BYO) into glasses without asking, so that it would be finished. The person who received the wine didn't even want anymore. They brought boxes out for food without asking and placed them on the table with attitude. The body language suggested pure annoyance that we were staying, including eye rolling. Then they brought out the mop and began mopping right behind us. I believe the owner wasn't there because I've never seen them act like this before. It's a real bummer because I liked this place a lot and have patronized it with many of my friends. I've also sent many people their by recommendation. I can no longer do that. I hope that they will not treat others this way in the future. It'll probably be a while before I try this place again. read more

It then took another 20, almost a full HOUR later for the waitress to ask asked "what did you order"???? At this point I told her to forget it and asked for the check. Another waitress tried to explain the situation by saying "we had a bad day in the kitchen and we're usually on our game". This is the best you got? Waitress kept hovering over us to make our selections even though we (4 people) had just sat down. Then, even though there was no crowd waiting, our desserts were whisked from the table without our permission. So much for ambience. Two of us ordered the duck salad. It was truly terrible. Bits and pieces of dried out duck- probably snippets from other duck dishes-nestled with wilting iceberg lettuce leaves tinged with brown edges. It was not crisp and the accompanying veggies were minor players. Tasteless. One friend had the Chili Noodle; it was good, maybe a C+. The other had the spring rolls but made no comment. Why we pressed on to dessert will be forever a question mark or maybe a hope the evening could be salvaged. But it wasn't to be. I ordered the fried ice cream, which l had a chocolate magic shell looking hard covering. I chipped into this to get to the vanilla ice cream. It was totally underwhelming. You couldn't even tell that it was vanilla ice cream. Tasteless. One person in our party ordered the vanilla ice cream by itself and had the same opinion as me. Another person ordered bananas in a rice, wrapper with ice cream. Can you guess the opinion? All in all the meal was really inexpensive considering these days.
