The food was great. Their breakfast is what taste the best. Their lunch food is ok at best, besides their sandwiches.

Frenchtown Cafe has been here for as long as…read moreI can remember - I don't know if it was in this EXACT location the whole time, but my childhood memories going back to the early 90s definitely included this. I grew up down the road in Milford, and our go-to restaurant in Frenchtown was always Napoli by the park, but I'm pretty sure we ended up here once or twice. Honestly? Wasn't the best on our most recent visit, and the sky-high reviews might be the result of an inflated tourist bump. I came here yesterday for lunch with one of my OG chums around 1:30, 2pmish. Despite it being a pretty meh weather day, the town was packed and loud, likely at least partially because Bastille Day was the next day (aka today as I'm writing this) - lot of French flags and perhaps a few more tourists than usual. Frenchtown is always pretty touristy on a summer Saturday though, to be fair. We chose Frenchtown Cafe because Piazzi next door was closed; and for me at least, it was nice to get some indoor seating away from the humidity and the high-decibel concert across the street. My first impressions, which were substantiated throughout our meal, was that there were a few too many tables packed into the restaurant, which I always consider a shameless money grab, especially if it's coming at the expense of the comfort of your customers. If it wasn't NYC-level/bumping up against your neighbor, it was close. And any time you happened to stand up, you had to be very careful/cognizant of your surroundings because more than likely, an employee or other customer was right behind you. In hindsight, would have advocated for the outdoor seating. I wasn't in the mood for a sandwich/melt, so I went with a plain hamburger and fries. Eh. The burger was clearly pre-made/frozen meat, and it was SUPER greasy. My chum got a melt, which was also dripping with grease. Hard to find selling points in your entrees when your paws are covered in a substance that's going to literally congeal into lard at some point if you don't clean them. Hard to pivot, but beyond that, the burger was at least cooked to my specifications (medium rare). The fries were by far the biggest selling point - perfectly crispy, just the way I like it. The service was just okay. Our waitress seemed very nice but wasn't the most attentive and beyond getting the check, never checked in to see how the food was. It WAS busy in there, but the waits for everything were a bit longer than they should have been. I doubt I'll be back any time soon, though I recall a lot of people coming here more for breakfast - that's probably the play if you're set on frequenting what was for us a mediocre establishment.

All the food and products are from the Amish people. Everyone is so friendly and the service is fast and efficient. My mom ordered a strawberry milkshake. She said it was one of the best milkshakes she ever had. They put a bunch of fresh strawberries inside and she said it wasn't too sweet but just perfect. My husband ordered a cookies and cream milkshake. He also said it was made really well and was not too sweet. Just a clean creamy cookie flavor. Of course we had to try the doughnuts. I ordered an apple and a chocolate with sprinkles. The apple was really good! It was freshly baked, and the filling was delicious and had a nice cinnamon flavor. The chocolate was also very good! They are big donuts too! 2 for $5. Now to the delicious soft pretzels! They are freshly baked, soft, buttery, and delicious!!! You can also get them in garlic, cinnamon, and sour cream and onion. They have pretzel dogs too. Fresh fudge anyone? They have a large variety of fudge treats. They have fresh meats, jewelry, furniture, and other items for sale as well. I wished we had more time to explore and try more things. They are only open on Thursdays and Saturdays until 3:00 PM.

I did have some very tasty donuts (10000 times better and more "real" than Dunkin and less expensive than some bougie places that charge $5 per donut). I have had the filled pretzels - my spouse liked those, me not so much though (I felt like they were too moist/undercooked for my personal liking). I don't have complaints, I just can't buy what I can't afford and guess I will refrain from the pretzel things while my husband enjoys his.

The cafe is located inside a bigger building and can easily be missed if you are not looking for it. There are signs in the window. No big sign outside to direct you. Ample parking available. I asked for recommendations before I ordered. I was directed to Dad's Ribeye sandwich. Oh so good! Thinly sliced steak with melted cheese and peppers. It was gooey, messy and the perfect comfort food. I highly recommend a visit.

It's lunch and dinner with a pretty small menu but the options are all delicious sounding! They also have specials as well. It was nice to see the same chef and some of the same staff when we went. There's only a handful of tables maybe 10 or so and then there is a counter at the windows. They had a nice mural as well as a nice neon sign. The whole design is clean and simple. It's one of the establishments inside "The Vault Town Center" which is a repurposed bank housing several businesses and eateries. The staff was super nice our waitress was very sweet. We went with one of their "handhelds" and one of their "steaks". The double cheese meatball parm and the boomer steak. The boomer steak was my favorite of the two because it had a really great flavor profile between the ribeye, the steakhouse onion white cheddar, mushrooms and crispy onions- great texture and taste! The meatball was also really good. Very hearty sized meatballs on a garlic bread roll with provolone and whipped ricotta. I didn't really taste much of the garlic flavor but I really enjoyed the ricotta on the sandwich. The portions were decent. I was full but not overly stuffed. Both of our sandwiches came with chips but you could upgrade to fries - which were super thin and crispy. I might upgrade next time ! Overall I'm excited for this location and to get a taste of Sammy's beyond their usual "brunch" Hours. Cannot wait to come back and to see what else they do !

But I lean towards 3 automatically because I prefer to see business do good. I ended up getting the tooth fairy on a whole sub. My friend had the chicken salad sub. POSITIVES: Bread was good & fresh just like the cold cuts & Cole slaw. They definitely take care of their product. Presentation from how the sandwich was put together, & the Turkey portion was THE BEST. Not too much where it only tasted like Turkey & pastrami, but just the right amount to make it a hefty sandwich where all the ingredients complimented each other. Wrapping & bagging is worthy of mention, great job. NEGATIVES: It was mostly Turkey with a tiny amount of pastrami, like one slice, MAYBE two. The Turkey did not taste like it was a good brand. It didn't have a bad taste, it just wasn't great quality. It would have been a better experience if the Cole slaw wasn't drowned in thousand islands dressing. Since the pastrami was so little it really doesn't make sense to put that dressing on it. Some bites the meat & cheese were nice & warm & other bites it was pretty cold, that inconsistency threw me off. As for the chicken salad sub, my friend had better & also gave it a 3. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The young lady did great in putting things together. Seemed to be a great employee as far as performance, she may need a little improvement with friendliness. Can't say she was rude but a bit stand offish. Friendliness goes a long way. Overall, when you compare the price for quality, I honestly wouldn't come back here again. This place is NOWHERE near a 4 1/2 in my opinion, but I hope they do well.
