The first session was simply a conversation with the trainer solely for the purposes of learning what was important to me so they could tailor not just the workouts, but also ways to help me feel inspired as a whole person. That made me feel so special. The trainers were sure to respect and be mindful of what could seemingly be small details but were important me. That for me is priceless! The physical space itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It was designed with so much intentionality that it made the workout sessions even more enjoyable. The small group sessions are lovely. They aren't overstimulating and that was key for me. Every workout session left me feeling inspired, encouraged and renewed not just physically but mentally & emotionally. Lastly, Dani, the owner and founder, is an absolute PLEASURE to do business with and her passion for mind and body fitness is evident. She wants every client to get what they need to feel empowered. She makes herself accessible and easy to communicate with either by phone, email or text. As a nurse leader, I am deeply appreciative of what she has created at Very Personal Training and will continue to do support her business not only with my own personal training but also with group training events that I will host for my clinical team and friends. The gym is consistently being cleaned, and the equipment is well maintained. The class instructors are amazing - full of positive energy and always ensuring that the class members have the proper form for the corresponding exercises or workouts. The personal trainers care about their clients and work with their schedules. If you ever have a question or concern, you can contact Gym Management (via the new app) and poof receive an immediate response: We need new chains for the heavy bags (boxing classes) - done! The space: Its cozy, simple, clean and still smells new…read more It's designed to make you feel like you're the only girl/boy in the world with your dedicated trainer. I'm impressed at how efficient and configurable Nate has made this space. I hardly notice when he's setting up to have me work on the next thing. That said the equipment is basic enough that you can replicate the routines at any commercial gym. The Trainer: Nate knows his stuff! First of all I blew my lower back out doing burpees in a kickboxing class due to the recommended form. My partner who also trains with him recommended Nate to me. So we met and right away Nate evaluated me and built a 4 day workout plan that I can do on my own. Additionally, he's corrected everything I've done wrong for years and helped me isolate muscles to maximize the effectiveness of the workout. He's also introduced me to amino acids (I know...basic stuff, but not to me) he also taught me a lot of new challenging stuff and makes sure I keep up with my diaphragm exercises to strengthen my back. So far my results have been great (lost 12lbs, increased muscle mass) which is a bit of a mind trip because I'm never tired or in pain! Above all, Nate is very personable and charming! I've seen him flex his communication style to work with people all over the spectrum (a business man at heart). He's also in great shape which is aspirational and I guess what you'd want in a personal trainer. I haul my developing buns of steel 18 blocks to train with Nate, he's been worth every penny, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Their classes are the perfect amount of time and use various tools for moves (kettlebells, trx, clubs and bodyweight), have minimal cardio and no more than 5-6 people in group size which allows for plenty of attention/form correction if needed. Classes are challenging but NEVER feel like torture, I always enjoy them which has not always been the case in other studios' classes. They change their programming up every 4 weeks and each program targets the full body. Since starting about 2.5 years ago, in addition to getting stronger in general, I've noticed that some irritating chronic issues in my body have gone away by strength training. I haven't felt the need to go to the chiropractor in a year, my posture is better and shoulder and hip irritation are gone. Clearly these issues were being caused by muscle weakness and I just didn't know it. I wasn't expecting these issues to clear up from strength training but am so grateful that they did! In addition, Steve the owner is truly a community minded guy. He's generous and kind and has created a great place (all of the coaches are wonderful). Can say I still recommend Speakeasy 10/10 two and a half years later!

I am a runner and a brand-new client of Jennie KixMiller for therapeutic massage (she's also a…read morepersonal trainer and has a yoga/pilates studio). Although Jennie came highly recommended by 2 very athletic Brooklyn frends (who credit her personal training and therapeutic massages with allowing them to maintain ambitious fitness regimens), I never used her services before because I live in Manhattan and Hands On Health's studio is in Park Slope, Brooklyn. That is, until today. I had a "runner's emergency", namely a horribly painful piriformis muscle in my tush that caused radiating pain in my legs which made it almost impossible to walk...much less to run! In desperation, I decided that I would finally make the trek to Brooklyn to seek relief from Jennie - so I phoned her, and although I was a new customer, she squeezed me in (pardon the pun) on a last-minute basis to her very busy schedule, because she knew I was acutely suffering. After an hour at Hands on Health (an unassuming but serene setting, located 2 blocks from the 15th Street F subway in Park Slope) and some amazingly expert therapeutic massage, I was able to stand upright again. Unlike a number of massage practitioners at the local Chinese "Qi Gong Tui Na" places I've tried for prior sports injuries, Jennie KixMiller really knows exactly what she is doing. Aside from giving me a great massage, she also showed me some preventive and remedial stretches and exercises for the acute problem I was having, and provided other helpful fitness guidance. My particular issue is severe and will require a few more massage treatments, but based upon my pain-relieving experience today, I am really looking forward to continuing to work with Jennie until the last kink is out of my butt and my legs! I don't even mind the F train ride : )).

The staff doesn't help clean the place up, people don't re-rack their weights, the free weights and kettlebells are impossible to use because they can only be accessed by the classes, there's a single bench press area, a single squat rack/deadlift platform, spin bikes are only available during classes, two benches, and as I mentioned, nearly no available kettlebells and free weights outside of classrooms. Teens take over the place, as do unsupervised children. Lifting on a wooden floor is dangerous. I personally had to put up a "broken do not use sign" on a broken peleton, because the staff didn't notice. There's one plyo box that you have to run around to find. NO showers...in a gym. The manager, Chris, does not address your concerns, even after contacting him personally.

We came there when it was about to rain so it was not sunny the entire time, it started pouring just as we were leaving.. which made for a super beautiful view of the sky, with sun rays shining through. There are TONS of bushes with different fruits there, which I did not expect.. and also a TON of glass in the sand which is horrible, so BE CAREFUL! There are also spiky plants in the sand as well that hurt if you step on them so at least wear slippers. If you come there with your bike, just know you will have to climb around to get to the beach area. Tons of people windsurfing there which was a pretty cool thing to watch, them being raised up into the air and falling into the water. The view is gorgeous there as well so I naturally had to take tons of photos. There generally ARE people there and you will see them pass by but you can find spots where you are out of view if you want to sunbathe there. Overall a nice little spot to stop by every once in a while while biking by the belt.

I was seriously impressed with the cleanliness of the entrance, pool, and locker rooms (I'm from Brooklyn so I remember what the pool used to look like...that's another story). All personal items must be locked up. The rules by the Parks Department seems a bit archaic: The only items you can take to the pool area are a towel and flip flops(literally). Books and reading material are permitted. You must provide and use your own padlock. They suggest a combination lock. No Electronic equipment, including cell phones. Only white t-shirts are permitted in the water. The staff was professional and courteous. Instructors were eager to answer any questions we had, however I was disappointed because my son arrived for advanced swimming lessons and the children there were clearly not ready for advance swim lessons. The instructor said she had to give instructions based on the skill set of the group and that was basic 101. My son was bored and we gave up our coveted lottery spot to one of several children on the waiting list. I'm seriously unhappy with the instructions, but I blame that on the parents not the swim instructors. However the facility was impressive and squeaky clean.

The crew is knowledgeable, caring and flexible. I bought a bike from them a few years back and loved it. It was a sad day when someone broke into our garage and stole it (cutting the lock and all), but I knew I'd need a new one. Even though Habitat couldn't source the bike I was looking for (we are also in the middle of a bike shortage if you didn't know!!) they were completely up for assembling one that I was able to locate myself. Picking up the bike in the middle of a pandemic was smooth with social distancing outside and proper precautions being applied. I checked in and within a few minutes my ready to go bike was brought outside so I could pedal away. They're my go to even though it's not in my hood, and it's worth it. Thanks Bicycle Habitat- keep on rolling!

I had a very poor experience here…read more I brought in my bike for a front shifting issue and was charged for derailleur adjustment twice, but the real issue was not identified. Multiple mechanics suggested I might not know how to shift properly, but the actual problem turned out to be a bent chainring. That was only discovered after I went back multiple times and pushed for them to keep looking. It did not seem like the bike had been properly test ridden before I was told the issue was rider error. Communication was also difficult, and the overall attitude I experienced from staff felt passive aggressive rather than helpful. I was largely left on my own trying to sort out what was going on. They also replaced the wrong bolt on my saddle. When I asked about replacing the correct bolts, I was told they did not have the proper ones, and the issue was not properly resolved. After multiple visits, repeated charges, poor communication, and the real problem being missed until I pushed for further inspection, I would not return.
