Large selection of fabrics. Everything was very clearly marked with pricing and material. Fabrics…read morewere a little pricey but if you're looking to feel fabrics before purchasing them, this is a great spot for it. They also have sewing supplies like thread, scissors, mats, buttons, etc. tucked away in the corners of the store if you're short on supplies. One thing I didn't like was the messy cuts when the lady cut the fabric. But not a dealbreaker.

**************A SEAMSTRESS DREAM*************************…read moreLORD HAVE MERCY, a dream come true. I had never heard of this place before I stepped foot in it to make a masterpiece. I had actually visited on Good Friday and they were closed. I live in Katy and it was a 30 minute drive. I was upset but kind of my fault because you should always call a new place first before visiting. I pulled up and saw no cars and was surely disappointed. I politely got back in my car and decided I would visit another day. Well the following week I decided to visit because I needed to drop shoes off at the shoe shop. I walked in and felt like I was dreaming. It was such a variety of material it was unreal. I am not a seamstress but I have a creative vein for making a masterpiece. I decided to take my time and walk around and observe, look and allow my creative juices to flow. Then an angel appeared CLAUDIA, she was the sweetest girl ever. She answered all of my questions, offered expertise knowledge and helped me sort through many different options. Of course a creative person never makes choices overnight. So I left the store and told her I would return soon. The following week I returned with more choices and the need to make a final decision. When she seen the masterpiece she was floored. She then proceeded to talk about her mother's 50th birthday. It was funny because I am preparing for my 50th birthday and I was sharing with her that I don't mind sharing information with her as well to make her mother's event a success. What impressed me the most is all of the staff are welcoming to all ages and race along with being bilingual. I am always disgusted when I walk into an establishment and no one speaks ENGLISH which is the first language in HOUSTON. They are all nice and helpful CLAUDIA, stood out to me because she helped me personally. She was absolutely amazing. She gave hands on expertise and was very patient and kind. It was my first time in the store and she made me feel welcome. Her energy and poise were unmatched. I am looking forward to shopping at this establishment again.

I had no idea this store existed! I needed some additional fabric for an alteration and was told…read moreabout UFC from the tailor I went to. He recommended them for their vast selections. When I arrived, I was grateful to see reserved parking spaces right in front. I was not eager to tackle Rice Village parking, so this convenience was a benefit for me. Upon walking in, I asked where I could find some potentially matching fabric and the salesgirl was so helpful! She pointed me in the right direction. Since I was looking for white fabric, she recommended I take the fabric outside in the sun to make sure it matches (can't trust white with the florescent lights!). That greatly helped, as the first fabric I thought would work ended up not matching at all once I took it in the sun. After a few tries, I found a fabric that was perfect! If in need of fabric, I definitely recommend coming to Universal Fabric Center. Lots of options to choose from and great service!

I even saw some young women doing a photoshoot inside, with permission of course. I found the perfect ribbon but realized at the register that the price was per yard not per bolt! It was totally worth it because I was satisfied with the look and quality. Yes this place is pricy, but you'll definitely find what you need here.

My partner and I came here to paint pottery for eachother as mementos and for a nice memory…read more The staff was very welcoming and helpful to beginners and answered all the niche questions I had about glazes and what I should or shouldn't do (I'm an over thinker so I had a lot of questions). They were very patient and explained everything I was curious about in depth. They didn't make me feel like any of my questions were dumb or unnecessary. The staff also regularly checked up on us. I also liked that they gave off a calm vibe. I'd say that the staff was one of the best parts about this place. My piece was the mug. I am an artist in multiple medias but this was pretty new to me and I had fun with working with glaze. Although my piece didn't come out as well as I had hoped, I still love it and appreciate things made by hands with care and effort. I also learned a lot for the next time I come around. I hope to try the to-go kit. My partner doesn't have art experience but he still found it easy to work with the glazes and he had a good time. I ended up painting my mug until closing, but they did allow me to take my piece home and come back the next day to finish, which I appreciated. I did like the selection of all the different mugs and plates and everything, and I would say it's pretty decently sized, but during my visit I also did wish a little bit they had just a little more in terms of kitchen stuff. Though I understand something like that might be hard to achieve space-wise and cost-wise. I'd say the selection is good overall. During the making of my mug, I did like that they supplied markers (the marker ink disappears during firing!) as well as a paper for me to draft my design and lay it out on the mug. As an artist, the first sketch is very important to me. I also liked the brush selection. I did find brushes that suited my needs, but I also feel like a lot of the bigger brushes need to be replaced with new ones, as they felt frayed and hard to control. They had a big selection of other tools such as stencils, stamps, and these little bottles with needle droppers for fine detailing. The glazes were easy to locate and there was enough bottles for everybody. I liked that it specified they are lead-free and food safe as that is something I was concerned about. I also liked the little magnetic tiles on display to preview finished glaze colors and layers. The magnets made it easy compare how certain colors looked alongside another and imagine how your fired product would look. They also provide special pencils to leave a special message or your name on the piece with. Both days I brought a drink and a snack, which was a really nice experience. I liked that we could bring food and drink in, it made it a lot more fun and enjoyable. I also liked that the environment wasn't too loud with chatter or annoying music, allowing me to relax while I painted (especially as somebody with sensory issues). There were people talking at other tables but it isn't bothering. The cost isn't annoying, I'd say it's satisfactory and simple; just whatever you painted + studio/processing fee. I think for what I and my partner painted, the prices for the pottery itself were reasonable, as well as the studio fee. As for the finishing time, they got it out sooner than expected (a few days after submitted) which was satisfactory. Pickup was pretty quick and simple. The mug I made has found its home as my partner's coffee mug and my partner's lemon catch-all has found a home as a lovely scent wax bowl for our new candle warmer. Overall I'm pretty satisfied and I see myself coming again to paint gifts for my parents. Attatched are process photos, as well as a finished product photo and a few photos of the location.
