I would go back to Kansas City to get out of this place. Really interesting Hotel in downtown Kansas City. The bartender finally made great drinks but do the history of finally made great drinks but do the history of those drinks and how it related to the prohibition time period was a great historian. This place really has changed. We went in Friday night expecting our usual server, but she wasn't there, so we sat at the bar. The bar was sticky, and when we pointed it out to the new bartender, he acted offended that we said anything. I asked him to make me something that had whiskey in it, he made me an old fashioned... Not original. We ended up getting a few other cocktails, but they didn't taste like they have before. Whoever changed the music has no taste, and it definitely doesn't go in a speakeasy style bar. There were also liquor bottles everywhere, and the place was a mess. The new staff seems like they could care less about being there. We used to love coming in and always really enjoyed the drinks and vibes that PS had, but after Friday, we won't be back. You're better off heading to the crossroads if you want a good cocktail and good atmosphere. read more

Disappointed--I was visiting from out of town and enjoy finding speakeasy bars. I wanted to really like this place. The fact that the entrance is hidden behind the registration desk of the hotel is the biggest part of being a speakeasy. Put our name in to wait and then went to the bar at the restaurant at the hotel and honestly we should have just stayed there. Great old fashion drink by Angela. Now back to the "speakeasy". The service was slow (however only one server and one bartender). They admitted they were short handed. We waited 20 minutes to even get an order in and that was just after I had to seek the server out. The cocktail I had was sub par. Lighting was too high. I am rating this place up against other speakeasy bars I have been to around the US and that is why I am rating it low. Maybe there are better places in KC. When I am back I will seek out other ones and will be very hesitant to visit this place again. read more

Great place, they tried really hard to make it a speakeasy...a little too hard in my opinion. Also welcomed large groups in a speakeasy atmosphere which really affects ambiance. Cocktails were good but a little pricey. It was a fun place and I've been In Worse speakeasies. We did have to ask to dim the lights a bit but we like it dark in our basements. All in all we had fun and I'd recommend it to others and I'd say to Mgmt stop accepting party busses...it ruins it for everyone. read more

Absolutely terrible service!!! To start first the guy in the front desk was rude!! He skip our group 3 times. We got there 30 min prior to opening and still had to wait an hour to get in. Once we were inside there was so much tables open so it was deceiving to say they were busy. Next the server did not know much about the menu or recommendations. They gave us a glass of water with a dirty cup having smudged lipstick!!! SO GROSS!! In addition, multiples tables that arrived after us got their drinks before us. We stopped by after a late dinner on a First Friday with another couple. We were able to get seated immediately. The host shared a bit of the history of the hotel and the speakeasy during the decent to the bar. The drinks were good and varied. The space was nice but the acoustics were so loud we were having trouble talking to each other despite several open spots still available. The service was a bit slow and unremarkable. To be fair, this is a 3.5 (I wish there were half stars!) but it's still new so I decided to round up. First, the place itself is SO cool, with a "secret" entrance and everything. The lighting inside is varied and beautiful, dim, warm, and flattering throughout. Both the bar and the table spaces are comfortable, and with a lot of people present it genuinely feels like a private club. Even though the drinks took a long time, the service itself was very good. The bar tender is awesome and interesting, if a little overworked. The cocktail list is solid but not amazing, though it has improved significantly since their soft opening a few months ago. I get a little bored going to some of the bars downtown with the same drinks, food, loud music or noisy televisions and wanted to try something new. At the recommendation of a friend I visited PS. First, the lighting was a little dim, which threw me off, but it adds to the unique 1920's decor and atmosphere. There was also some jazz music playing that evening. I don't know if that music is the norm, but it was really nice. Next, the drink menu was definitely unique. I was not sure what to order but the server was super patient, asking me what I usually drink, and was able to make recommendations. It was slightly busy that evening and I felt bad for holding her up, but she was very nice. The price for specialty or craft drinks here was no different than anywhere else, and the ambience of the bar along with the quality of the drink made it well worth it. I ordered another of the servers suggestions and it was equally as delicious. I did go sit at the bar, just to change seats. Noticing that my drink was near empty, the bartender offered another. I wanted to try something different, and he was also very knowledgeable and took the time to go over a couple of different options. I noticed that level of service with a couple of other patrons too when they asked for suggestions. The third drink was outstanding! (and my last). There were all kinds of different people there, a couple of small parties, couples, friends, and singles. I was not expecting to like it upon first entering, but I will definitely be back.
