Super cute location in the heart of independence, basically on the square. They have an incredible menu of drinks and a large variety bourbon in their library. The drink compilations are delicious! However, the service is incredibly slow...like snails pace. We arrived and waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated. We were in the gift shop which had no staff at all. The Bourbon library, also not staffed. The Sentinel had 3 employees. One bartender and two wait staff. Our first drink orders were placed and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. When I asked about the specific bourbon used in the banana drink, I was told "well it's a special blend we have made so it's a bourban blend". We later placed a second drink order. After 20 minutes it still wasn't delivered, another person in our party watched as they quickly started making the drinks as I approached. They had clearly forgotten us, but our server was not apologetic nor did she take ownership. She just said, we are busy, and we are making it right now. The people at the bar are the spotlight of all service and that's pretty clear. The bartender does and excellent job in attending the guests and she makes one heck of a cocktail! However, those in the outskirts, basically ignored. So while I can 100% recommend the atmosphere and drinks, the service is lack luster which makes the place disappointing at best. read more

The drinks are great, and the place itself is really cute--but the service can be hit or miss. I've been here several times, since my initial visit, and my experience has varied depending on who's working. The first few visits were fantastic, thanks to a particular waitress/bartender who was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience enjoyable. When she wasn't there on later visits, the service just didn't measure up. Even when the owner was present, the vibe felt off and not nearly as welcoming. I'll probably be back because I enjoy the drinks, but I'll think twice if that original server isn't working. The right staff really does make all the difference. read more

This is a beautiful cocktail bar in a really cute little area with drinks that are hand crafted and delicious. I've not explored independence, being from Olathe, and was so glad initially to have stumbled upon this gem. They have a pretty expansive list of spirits and cocktails to choose from. I opted for the NA Negroni. The atmosphere is just perfect. It's a fairly quiet place, we were on of the first ones when we first came in at 9p, and by the time we left, it was near full. My cocktail was delicious! And my friends enjoyed their whiskey beverages as well. We had a lovely time just yapping. Customer service was superb, we were checked in often. So why the 2 star review? It came time to pay and I noticed it after my card was taken away. My NA Negroni was listed as 10$ on the menu. It was the reason why I chose to try it, it seemed affordable for NA. When the check came, I was charged 12$. I informed staff that they may want to re do their menu, because I wasn't getting charged correctly. I really thought that the response was going to be "oh let us fix that for you! So sorry!!!" I was met with "thanks for letting us know!". I ended up paying almost 15$ with tax and my 1$ tip for a NA beverage, when the alcoholic beverages are at that same price. So unfortunately, while I found the perfect little hang out, I will not be returning. The told price and the ring up price for a drink aren't accurate. I would have just gotten a soda instead had I know that I wasn't going to be given truthful service. Also, the moment we sat down, the person who took our order told us he would be feeling better if it was midnight (because that's when they close). It was a beautiful day so we headed to Independence as a saw a review for the Lavender Lemon drink. My so and I had a mixture of drinks, my favorite being my old fashion. I can remember which one, but I thought the smoky would overwhelm the drink, but it didn't at all. I liked my Lavender Lemin drink, however I enjoyed the other drinks better.
