P.S. is the epitome of speakeasy entrances as it's hidden inside of the Hotel Phillips. You could easily be standing right in front of the door and not even know it's there. While this speakeasy does take reservations, you can also go directly to hotel reception and ask for a table at P.S. and they can tell you if there is availability. The atmosphere here is amazing and a perfect location for date night. As for the drinks, I must recommend the Baltimore Break that is pear focused or the Fountain City which is like being smacked in the face by a lemon. This is one of the top two speakeasies in all of Kansas City, so be sure to arrive early or you might be waiting a while for a seat. PS is yet another awesome speakeasy in Kansas City. Located inside of the Hotel Phillips, for this one you must talk to the front desk people to obtain access. The entrance is an unmarked white door that you can actually see through the front window. They have live music and a high-end whiskey collection. The PS Old Fashioned was a treat. Not the best speakeasy in town, but it is a must-visit spot for those who seek a classy experience.

Great for late night cocktails or date night. Been here a couple times to speakeasy if you make reservations, you get in a booth if you don't, you gotta sit at the table or the bar.

You have to make reservations here if you want to get in. It makes it feel very exclusive and secretive. We had a very long wait for our cocktails but WOW it was very much worth the wait. PS offered a lot of local kc spirit based cocktails to choose from. I was able to share a section from their menu below. The jazz and the personality from the band was fantastic, they loved to interact with the crowd and we ended up talking with a few of them after their set. Overall a very cozy and fun speakeasy if that is your vibe.

Make. A. Reservation. Do. Not. Miss. This. Experience. You do not want to miss this 1930's inspired Kansas City speakeasy located somewhere near the amazing Hotel Philips. Elegance, detailed, and nostalgic, we were transported back in time as we walked in to the main foyer of the hotel. In search of the PS we headed to the lower level, only to find restrooms and what appeared to be a banquet hall. We took the elevators back to the lobby. We entered the hotel restaurant and asked a server where to find the PS. She looks around and quietly says, "You need to check with..." that's all I can say! Its part of the experience! We find our secret contact. Since we were not on the list, a call had to be made to allow us entrance. We were lucky to get in. We are buzzed in and ushered through a secret door. We enter a dark stairwell, snaking our way down the dimly lit corridor until we hit the bottom of the stairwell, and enter the PS. The menu is full of spirits, specially crafted cocktails and mock tails. A great place to relax before or after a night on the town. The art deco furniture and mood lighting set the stage for a great evening gathering around friends or a romantic moment with that social someone. Taylor was our server and was simply fantastic, answering our questions, and providing suggestions for drinks. Do not let the menu full you; do not be afraid to ask if there are other drinks that may not be on the menu. We loved every minute of this evening. I did get pretty nervous once I found out that a reservation is really preferred; we simply wondered in and lucked in to a couple of seats.

Very cool venue. Fun secret entrance. Great ambiance in the bar. Ao far so good. Bad news is it's a speakeasy where you would expect to find bourbon that is difficult to find and tonight anyway all that was available was off the shelf and marked up a lot. Old Forester 1920 $17 a pour for a $60 bottle. So great venue need to get product in that represents the venue. Not what's available on shelf marked up. Did have a good time and cool place so if you're looking for a nice spot to go for a drink and impress a friend or business partner, great spot. If you're looking for a speakeasy experience with hard to find bourbon, not so much but the bartender (working his tail off all alone) noted I was looking for something unique and found a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon! Great recovery to some initial disappointment in the selection.

It was ok. Understaffed and the drink I ordered was so so. Service was slow but decor and the idea of the speakeasy is cool.

The beer and whiskey options are fantastic! So many different things to try - many of which I hadn't heard of before. Our group tried different beers as well as a few of their whiskey cocktails. We really enjoyed all of our choices. The only reason this is not a 5-star review is that the bartender was not very personable. We are the type of people that like to try different things, so we have questions and would like some options or opinions from those that work there. She didn't really offer much banter or discussion, poured our drinks, and then left and never really followed up. She sat behind the bar, chatting with what seemed like a friend, and never checked in again. And when we went up to the bar to order another drink, it felt like we were interrupting her chat.

Make reservations because they had a two hour wait for walk-ins. For appetizers we shared their burnt ends. Tender and sauced perfectly. For dinner we shared a wedge salad, their mashed potatoes, asparagus (a must!), and their tomahawk steak! Instead of doing three separate steaks we did the one and it was a perfect size for all of us to share! The steak was tender and well seasoned, mashed potatoes creamy, and the asparagus was prepared in a way we hadn't had before - highly recommend! We also had their dessert lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie! Really really good! Wine options: amazing! Bourbon options: classy! We couldn't give it five stars for two main reason: 1. We made a reservation for 7pm, arrived and check in at 6:50 and still had to wait just over 30 minutes to be seated. We learned that walk-ins had been seated ahead of us so we needed to wait for some tables to leave before we could be seated. This was a bit surprising. We understand waiting a few minutes, but 30 min is not okay. 2. The sweet server assisting us for dinner was in training and we learned from her "trainer" that she wouldn't be getting any of the tips from our dinner. Additionally, the "trainer" came over around 830 to tell us that although it was only three of us that gratuity is automatically included. Very odd that we were told these things during our meal. The server being trained should absolutely get a portion of the tips - we hope restaurant management reconsiders their policy on this especially since we hardly saw her "trainer". We normally tip over the 20% but because the trainer didn't get any of our tips, we opted to not increase the tip that was automatically charged to us. All in all really classy restaurant and food was delicious! We'll be back for sure!

Overpriced chicken, a stellar mushroom side, and an aggressive exit strategy…read more After some custom cocktails nearby, our famished group headed to Rye for some dinner and dessert. The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.
