When I first moved to Kansas City, I explored several of the speakeasy and themed bars. While I have been back to many, I never made it back to PS, so last weekend we decided it is long overdue another visit. We arrived at 8:30pm and saw a sign that said something along the lines of "we are booked up, so preference will be given to those with a reservation". Ok, understand; we may not get in since they are full. So I took a peek inside....and more than half the tables were completely empty. I asked the host if we can sit at the (completely empty) bar and enjoy one cocktail before their reservations arrive. She didn't know the answer and went to consult with the bartender. The bartender then responded with a rude attitude that she can't take any more customers. At this point it is 8:35 and you have about a dozen free tables plus a fully unoccupied bar. Is everyone running late for their 8:30 or did everyone schedule a 8:45 slot? I'm still baffled that we were turned down for a 1 drink / 15 minute experience with so many open seats. read more

P.S. is the epitome of speakeasy entrances as it's hidden inside of the Hotel Phillips. You could easily be standing right in front of the door and not even know it's there. While this speakeasy does take reservations, you can also go directly to hotel reception and ask for a table at P.S. and they can tell you if there is availability. The atmosphere here is amazing and a perfect location for date night. As for the drinks, I must recommend the Baltimore Break that is pear focused or the Fountain City which is like being smacked in the face by a lemon. This is one of the top two speakeasies in all of Kansas City, so be sure to arrive early or you might be waiting a while for a seat. We made a reservation more than two weeks in advance and just received a call the day of our reservation that they needed us to move our reservation because they booked a birthday party during it. It's pretty obvious that the birthday party was booked after our reservation was made. Very frustrating and unacceptable to get a call literally the day of our reservation because now we cannot make reservations anywhere else on a Saturday night. read more

The entrance is an unmarked white door that you can actually see through the front window. They have live music and a high-end whiskey collection. The PS Old Fashioned was a treat. We were seated quickly but waited nearly 10-15 minutes before our waitress actually came to our table. Our order was taken and about 10 minutes later our drinks arrived to our table. If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience at P.S. Speakeasy was abysmal from start to finish. We arrived on time for our 8:30 reservation, only to wait 15 minutes to be seated in a half-empty venue. When we were finally sat, it was at a wooden table under harsh fluorescent lights--hardly the dark, mysterious atmosphere one expects from a speakeasy. It felt more like a cafeteria than a cozy, intimate bar. The service, however, was the real nightmare. Despite watching wait staff bus tables, fill water glasses, and attend to virtually every other table, we were blatantly ignored. After patiently waiting, I finally asked a staff member if he could take our order, only to be met with a sarcastic "Yeah!" before he continued prioritizing other customers. It was humiliating and infuriating. We ultimately got up and left, but not before bringing this fiasco to management's attention. If you're looking for a place that values its customers and provides even halfway decent service, look elsewhere. P.S. Speakeasy is all style and no substance--and even the "style" is questionable. My husband and I were guest in the ballroom for an event at the hotel Phillips. We Purchased a glass of wine from the cash bar. We decided to go downstairs to visit PS. The dark haired bartender/ waitress with the big teeth and glasses was so rude to us and would not let us enter with our glass of wine, purchased from the same hotel. We agreed and drank it in the hallway before entering. After we were finished, we entered the venue and sat at a table. She then walked over to us and told us we were not allowed to sit there because she did not seat us there. There were open tables everywhere, but instead of moving us to a different table she told us we need to go back out and "read" the sign saying we needed to wait to be seated. We had a group of friends in a different part of PS so I told the rude women we would just go and join them. Unfortunately, they had no extra seating at their table. My husband asked if we could bring a couple extra chairs over there. She only allowed us one chair and said "we could always just stand" so instead my husband and I had to share a single chair. We placed an order for drinks with her and after 45 minutes, she returned, asking us if we were ready for our second round. My husband informed her that we never received our first round. By then she had already forgotten what we ordered and never put the order in. The place was cute and quirky, and I would've loved to have given it a positive review. However, the unpleasant woman was so rude and disrespectful, not only to us, but multiple other people who are attending the same event we were. We will NEVER go back! read more

You have to make reservations here if you want to get in. It makes it feel very exclusive and secretive. We had a very long wait for our cocktails but WOW it was very much worth the wait. In search of the PS we headed to the lower level, only to find restrooms and what appeared to be a banquet hall. We took the elevators back to the lobby. We entered the hotel restaurant and asked a server where to find the PS. She looks around and quietly says, "You need to check with..." that's all I can say! Its part of the experience! We find our secret contact. Since we were not on the list, a call had to be made to allow us entrance. We were lucky to get in. We are buzzed in and ushered through a secret door. We enter a dark stairwell, snaking our way down the dimly lit corridor until we hit the bottom of the stairwell, and enter the PS. The menu is full of spirits, specially crafted cocktails and mock tails. A great place to relax before or after a night on the town. The art deco furniture and mood lighting set the stage for a great evening gathering around friends or a romantic moment with that social someone. Taylor was our server and was simply fantastic, answering our questions, and providing suggestions for drinks. Do not let the menu full you; do not be afraid to ask if there are other drinks that may not be on the menu. We loved every minute of this evening. Bad news is it's a speakeasy where you would expect to find bourbon that is difficult to find and tonight anyway all that was available was off the shelf and marked up a lot. Did have a good time and cool place so if you're looking for a nice spot to go for a drink and impress a friend or business partner, great spot. The door is not marked, but with the right friends at the hotel, they can lead you to the secret entrance. After venturing down a dark, sparsely lit stairwell, you enter the PS. It is luxurious in its buildout with plush banquette and mood lighting. The menu is has a great selection of house curated cocktails, but you can also get traditional favorites. Mocktails are available for those who do not want to induldge. This is a great location for a drink before or after dinner, or a cozy time with that special someone. Interesting spot. Once arrived we waited about 5 minutes before we could head down. There are steps that take you down. The steps are dark. The bar is dark. I seriously couldn't read the menu without using a light on my phone. It's small. It was busy. Only one bartender and one server. Both were kind. It was somewhat noisy and a little difficult to have conversation. Luckily we were sitting right next to each other but there were spaces were you were across and I have no idea how people maintained conversation. The drinks were good. Average pricing. For being in a hotel this place is all right... smaller place fits 72... the hotel makes you think it's hard to get into and you need a reservation I didn't find that too be true. The bar charges crazy places for average bourbon as in you can buy a bottle after two servings. The drinks are sweeter than they should be probably serving to the average hotel guest. This Speakeasy is located in the basement of Hotel Phillips, and is indeed the definition of a hidden gem. However, there are a few caveats. The bar itself is pretty small, and the acoustics lean towards loud, so if you're looking for an intimate table, I suggest one of the bigger booths along the backside wall. Unlike some other sprawling Speakeasys in the city, PS doesn't have room for live entertainment, but they curate the music impeccably. Last time, I was crooned with a discography solely sang by Amy Winehouse and was thrilled with that. Service here can be a tad slow, but if you're visiting a bar like this, you shouldn't be trying to rush in or out. PS requires you to relish in the vibes and sink into the darkness while carrying on a conversation or sitting alone with your thoughts. When I find myself within either of those situations, I always choose to sip on a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. At PS, the aforementioned is what I stick with, and it's a strong one. A classic old fashioned with Rye whiskey that isn't too sweet and heavy on the pour. I find myself fond of PS, it makes a great starting point for an evening full of festivities, or it's a great post script to round out a night out on the town. read more

The manager that you had in charge closing on Monday, 7 May 2025 was absolutely unprofessional. If they close the register and couldn't reprint an non-itemized receipt I get that, but she threw the other receipt in front of me and said they printer everything which came across rude and I wouldn't be leaving this review, but she kept running her mouth while walking away and I could hear her and I approached her and told her she was being rude and she ran to to the back.
