I was back in my old stomping ground this week and went to PS for a shellac manicure. Ann and Li were great! Li got my previous polish off without scraping the life out of my nails, I think because she let the acetone sit long enough rather than rush me. I called to schedule an appointment for my friend and I, but they still did our nails one person at a time. I'm not sure why scheduling appointments at places like this is is so complicated. I could have chilled with the paraffin on longer, but the quality of work was great for the price. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in Boston, and highly recommend it! read more

I get short acrylic nails done here and Natalie is absolutely an artist. She takes her time, is meticulous and it always comes out perfectly. And she is hilarious to talk to. After a few nightmares with other places in this area, this is definitely the best place in back bay!! read more

I have been so busy lately, I haven't had a chance to get a new manicure, so this one has had to last 3.5 weeks. Of course it needs re-doing, but it's holding up pretty well. Despite the mixed reviews, I booked an appointment for a mani/pedi. I was early but they were able to get me right in. The salon is clean and bright and the techs are all friendly. The pedicure started out solid, the hot stone massage was a bonus but when the tech was buffing my right foot, she scrubbed so hard she broke skin. I told her it was too much and she backed off, I didn't notice the abrasion until I got home and it started to hurt or I would have said something at the salon. The manicure was decent, they charged an extra $5 to take gel off. It took forever to dry though, I sat at the dryer for 20 minutes and still smudged a nail shortly after I left. I think if I ever came back I would stick to gel. read more

Took the $35 nails and pedicure deal which I thought was quite reasonable. Overall, I would say they did an average job but rushed a bit on my nails because I was still in the salon around closing time and they probably wanted to get out quickly. Salon is clean, friendly service and comes with full massage. They mostly focused on my legs but I wish they concentrated on my feet instead. I stopped in for a pedicure during my lunch break (around 1:45PM) and was immediately seated after choosing a color. Lam was very thorough and gentle; I really hate when I get a painful pedicure. This was totally relaxing. She took care to really pumice my calluses and then spent quite a while massaging my calves and feet. Finally, the polish looks great: very even and carefully applied. I'm disappointed to share that my experience at PS Nails was horrifying. I scheduled a pedicure and gel manicure. The pedicure was mediocre; however, the gel manicure was an absolute nightmare. The manicurist repeatedly messed-up the polish; instead of redoing it, she continued to apply multiple coats. As a result, the polish was thick and would not dry. When I requested a discount or refund, she refused, as did the owner. The owner told me, "even if you aren't happy with the manicure, you have to be respectful of my people's time." She even suggested that I try another salon to see if they can do a better job. The staff continued to tell me that they work hard, and that it's not about quality, but about the time they put into my manicure. It was an extremely unprofessional and disappointing experience. I ended up leaving the salon, forced to pay full price, and with a terrible manicure that I could not wait to scrape off at home. read more

Wearing latex gloves and performing surgeries on my feet all day definitely take their tole. I was looking for a good nail salon in the South End/Back Bay Area for a while but all the prices were absurd, but then I stumbled across this gem. Just 35 dollars for a mani pedi and not just your average mani pedi, hot lotion, hot rocks, sea salt scrub, and paraffin were all included in the price! The staff is extraordinarily friendly and I i was immediately seated and offered a beverage from the mini fridge which on a hot day was most appreciated. even saw them babysit one woman's baby the whole time she was getting her nails done. I don't know how their service is when they're busy but they took their time doing my nails and toes and my cuticles were in tip top shape, definitely no skimping there. I WILL say that the full process took quite some time so if you're expecting to be in and out in under an hour, don't. Manicure was perfect, pedicure was average when it came to the polish job but for all the extras, price, and the overall experience I will definitely be returning. read more

Very good pedi! Hot stones were a welcome treat I did not expect. Better than the average nail salons on Newbury where you feel rushed and part of an assembly line. Very sweet staff and took their time. I used a light polish that takes 3 coats before it looks really solid - usually have to request 3 coats and I didn't even have to mention it. I'd heard great things about PS Nails so I decided to check it out when I was in the area and had some time to kill. Unfortunately it wasn't the incredible experience I was hoping it would be. I was a walk in and was seated right away for a manicure, which I very much appreciated. My nail technician was a guy - can't remember his name. He didn't ask me how I'd like my nails to be shaped, I think because he didn't know much English - our only communication was really through awkward gestures. My cuticles were poorly taken care of and a few days later look pretty rough. The coats were unevenly done, with the base of several nails looking worse than if I had done it myself. I always look forward to hand massages during manicures but this was more like having lotion slapped on and rubbed in for 10 seconds. I was led over to a cramped drying area and left there, with no indication of how long I needed to let my nails dry for. The owner/manager was very sweet and helped me take out my credit card to pay. I'm considering going back since there are so many more positive reviews, and I'll definitely update my review if I have a better experience next time. read more

Overall I had a good manicure / pedicure at the salon, except for one minor problem. The woman that was doing my nails kept commenting on how short they were and how they looked bad, which I found very offensive. She said this repeatedly. She then proceeded to tell me that my color I chose was all wrong for me because of the length of my nails and also my skin tone. I would go there again, but only if I knew that I wouldn't be bombarded with personal remarks. read more

I was so excited to try out PS after reading the great reviews on yelp. I went with a friend and we each asked for pedicures. I've had a lot of pedicures in my life (every 2 months for 9 or 10 years) and I can honestly say this was the worst one I've ever had. Not only was my technician hardly looking at my feet as she was working but she would get up every few minutes and go do who knows what. She got up 5 minutes in and didn't return for over 15 minutes. When she did return she rushed through and 10 minutes later I was "all set". Now a quicker pedicure I can understand-if it is done correctly. I wouldn't have been as upset if she rushed but still did a good job. I'm an avid runner so I have some calluses on my feet as a result. Not only did she hardly scrub my feet but she completely skipped the rough parts. No top coat and even after I put my own opi on at home to seal it 10 days later and I have 3 chips. What a disappointment. This place is not worth the hype in my opinion. I will definitely not be returning to PS nails. read more

My friend that was getting married made manicure/pedicure appointments for me, the Maid of Honor, and the bridesmaids. It was a little tight in the salon, but I didn't really care. I was just excited to spend some relaxing time with the rest of the girls. They started the pedicure first. This part was fine. It was a massage chair, they offered us drinks and they did a hot stone on our lower legs. I actually enjoyed it. They did a French manicure on my toes. It came out decent. It was not the best I have ever had, but I wouldn't complain about it. Then it came time for me to have the manicure. This is when everything went downhill. At first it was fine, but once we got to the point where she was doing the French manicure, I noticed I had bumps and bubbles on almost every nail. Now I don't get my nails done very often, but I knew this was not right. So I pointed the bumps and bubbles out to the girl so she could fix them. I mentioned that it was possible the white polish was old and clumpy. So she got up to grab a new white polish. Instead of removing the nail polish she already put on my nails that had the bumps and bubbles, she just started painting over them. I had to tell her that would not get rid of the bumps and bubbles and that she will have to remove the current nail polish from my nails to start again. She seemed annoyed, but did it. It was the longest manicure I have ever had. In the end, I had to have her do a few different nails over again. None of my nails were perfect, but I wanted to leave so badly. She did not speak the entire time, it was obvious that she was annoyed by me asking her to do it correctly and I ended up with a really bad French manicure. I figured that I was just the Maid of Honor and no one would be looking at my nails anyways. Once I paid, I noticed the bride-to-be still having her nails done. She was having the same problem as me. They were on their third attempt to do a French manicure on her nails. So I waited with the other bridesmaids. One of the bridesmaids was using her own nail file to file her nails because they did not cut or file her nails properly. None of us liked the French manicure that we ended up with. I seriously think that someone just decided to open a nail salon and hired anyone off the street to do nails. It really was that bad. As the bride to be was sitting there while they were fixing her nails, she explained to the girl that she needs it perfect because she is getting married the following day. The woman actually said "You should have told me that, I would have done a better job." We were all shocked. So I guess they don't strive to do a good job unless it's for a wedding. I believe the manager or owner ended up taking over the manicure job for the bride to be. She ended up doing a decent job on her nails. By then, we were all angry and starving, but thankful that we could finally leave that place. Just because this place is located near Newbury Street, do not think they will be just as good. read more
