What happened was absolutely unacceptable for anyone working in a healthcare setting. Sierra began by commenting on my outfit, saying she liked the "tutu thing" I had going on. I initially took it as a compliment. But the second I looked up, she and her assistant Annalise Kirschel were whispering and laughing. The energy shifted immediately - it was mocking, dismissive, and completely disrespectful. Trying to understand what was going on, I asked, "You really like it?". Instead of clarifying or easing the situation, Sierra escalated it ... and made comments including: "If I were you, I'd be so scared to put it on. But you think you can pull it off apparently." She said this in front of another patient, her assistant, and a trainee. I cannot put into words how humiliating that moment was. I felt blindsided, embarrassed, and deeply disrespected. I was so shaken that I couldn't even continue the appointment. Later, I learned from the team that there have been several complaints regarding Sierra Strain and her assistant, Annalise Kirschel, which includes a Yelp review from last year. That realization made everything feel even worse - it has happened multiple times. What infuriates me the most is that Sierra is actually responsible for training assistants and trainees. If this is how she openly treats her patient, I can't imagine the kind of toxic, unprofessional environment she's creating behind the scenes. Much more attentive and also just generally fun to talk to. While I was doing exercises with her (or the assistant) they would walk around, look at my form, tell me where to improve so the exercises were more effective. One of the most concerning issues is the lack of communication and transparency. Employees often receive no notice when clients cancel sessions, resulting in wasted trips and unpaid time. In such cases, you're either told to clean the facility (an unreasonable expectation outside the role of a Behavior Technician) or you're abruptly reassigned to cover another BT's session without context or consent. The pay is among the lowest in the ABA field, especially when weighed against the emotional and physical demands of the job. The work environment is poorly maintained, with cleanliness being a recurring problem. The facility does NOT look like those posted online. The children's bathrooms and common areas are often unsanitary, raising valid concerns about hygiene, safety, and the general quality of care. A particularly troubling practice is the use of personal items like wipes brought in for one child that get used on other children, without the caregiver's knowledge. Additionally, BTs are often left in the dark about health-related issues like lice until after the situation is already "handled," which puts both staff and other clients at risk. Unsurprisingly, the company suffers from a very high turnover rate, which reflects the broader issues within the organization and further destabilizes the workplace. Overall, they show little regard for employee well-being, professional development, or proper client care. Even by looking at the reviews the only 5 star reviews are for speech therapists, not from the work being done!
