I never write reviews (first time) but pupu is the best kept secret around here. My husband and I do delivery and pick up they are quick no matter what you do. Our first time ordering with them we got several soup because I figured with the cost they must be small- WRONG! The soups are like two dollars and they come in these big Styrofoam pints that you can make two or three servings out of. We've literally been eating their soup twice a week and everyone is delicious especially the chicken noodle and the wonton. First time customer. Treasure Island was bland and its shrimp was mushy and its Chinese pork was flavorless. Orange Chicken relied on sweet sauce but the chicken was over cooked and gristle- - was like eating hard fried doughy nuts. Hot and Sour soup was peculiarly thick and relied on overly spiced flavors. The pu pu platter was mainly chicken fingers and everything was over-fried, heavy, and overly doughy. Chicken wings were cooked with a blowtorch. Chinese pork strips were glorified teriyaki beef jerky. This is sub-mediocre "food court" Chinese food. read more

It's was late and I don't want to cook so a friend told me to call this place, and I did the person who pick up the phone he's name was Sam and I order food for me and my family and the food was great it's my favorite place now to order Chinese food. After many years of getting our Chinese take out, I have to say that we will never order from PuPu again! I don't know if the business has changed hands or what but something has changed! It is horrible. There is no flavor in anything and everything tasted the same. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour and the crab rangoons were as bland as could be. The chicken fingers were doughy and the chicken was almost not there........the pieces were so small covered in way too much greasy dough. We really want to take back everything we ordered and get our money back. Terrible and very disappointing. Total waste of $40.00! (If the owners are reading this and hopefully you are, you'd best do something because the people of West Roxbury won't put up with paying for crappy food!). Definitely 2 thumbs down. read more

The Pu Pu Restaurant is our favorite place to go for Chinese food. Sometimes we pick up and sometimes we have them deliver. There is some seating available so if I'm by myself I might just order and eat right there. The food is always fast, hot and delicious! I especially like the boneless spareribs. I usually get extra spicy mustard sauce on the side. The Lo Mein is out of this world (we usually have to order 2 or 3 of these!) I wanted to give them 3 1/2 stars, because 3 is way too low. But 4 stars? I mean this is good, but there could be some improvements regarding the staff, and once they forgot my spicy mustard - which is just too important to overlook. read more

I'm trying to be nice nowadays and only review places I like, but this must be said. I frequent West Roxbury and would always pass by this take out joint and would think this place must be good, since it's been there like forever. The other day while passing by a buddy and I had the craving for some greasy artery clogging Chinese food goodness. While getting close to the place, I remembered this place and of course I had to double park (never spots on Centre Street) in front of the place, so we decided to take the leap. Rookie move of me for not checking the Yelp reviews, because I was definitely getting a surprise, but it's okay the decision was built on years of curiosity. So my buddy decided last minute he didn't want it, but knowing me I always want to try new places out, so I had him order me the most common food at a Chinese take out, Pork fried rice, Crab Rangoons, and Lobster Sauce. When we finally brought it home, just as I expected, the brown paper bag was outlined in grease and lobster sauce semi-spilled. Smelled okay though (keyword SMELL), when it came to actually eating it, it was an entirely different story. By far the worst crab rangoons I'd ever had (like they bought it frozen with freezer burn and refried them), but I didn't let that ruin my meal yet, I still had my rice and sauce. The pork fried rice was also the worst I'd ever had. Yhe rice was dry and hard with every pork bite a chunk of fat and the same with the pork in the lobster sauce (if i wanted all that pig fat, I'd inject my veins with bacon grease!). Speaking of lobster sauce, when I took it back, it looked like a jello cube (like a coagulated meat jello), maybe it got cold from the time I brought it back (nothing a microwave can't fix), or maybe they used way too much starch. In the end, I definitely got the grease (abundance of that) I was looking for and bland flavorless fatty food. I'm glad I tried this place though, because I can finally drive by and not care anymore. The name of the place suits them well, the food really is poopoo or is it pu pu? Anyways, I had better Chinese at those $5.95 Chinese buffets. After eating the food, I checked the reviews, apparently big mistake that I went to this spot and supposedly the best Chinese take out in Westie is down the street from them, but I'll see you guys soon West Garden! read more

This has been my go-to Chinese spot in West Roxbury/Roslindale. The people there are super friendly, just remember your number! The food is decent for the price. For $10 I can get all my favs with leftovers for the next day. Is it gourmet Chinese? No, it's fast (5-10 minutes max) and stays open late which is a plus in this residential Boston neighborhood! read more

General tso's chicken is way to sweet and edges of chicken are hard. Pu Pu has an egg drop soup that's out of this world. Their crab rangoon will make you 'swoon'. The staff will remember you by name and face after your second visit. Order for groups of 25+ the day before and you'll get rave reviews from your colleagues! They deliver faster than any Chinese restaurant I've ever known. I have gone here at least twice a month every month since I was a kid. The food is always fast and delicious. I usually stick to the appetizers, hot & sour soup, and pan fried noodles. The fried rice is a little dry, but not inedible. I do love the boneless spare ribs, crab rangoon, and peking ravioli. The hot & sour soup is awesome, as well. As cheap chinese places go Pu Pu is my favorite. The food is decent (although I recommend the Beef Teryiaki), but the portions are huge and their combo platters let you get a bunch of appetizers if you have a small group of people without breaking the bank. I drove to PuPu when I lived in Hyde Park an when I lived in Newton when I wanted cheap greasy chinese. If you're looking for high quality go to Chinatown, but for the cheap stuff PuPu is the best in the area. read more

The rice was burnt. I asked for a box instead of aluminum container and when they replace the rice they put it in an aluminum container. The rice has no flavor due to the lack of any vegetables or bean sprouts. read more

I've gone here for over 20 yrs. it's just not what it used to be! The rice is mushy & I feel they gave us the day before left overs. I know that I ordered an item the man working the counter insisted I didn't perhaps I spoke too fast? Chicken wings, chicken fingers they just don't sound the same & I always order both. Our beef & broccoli was not full in the silver foil container, it's very expensive so that's a big disappointment. They used to provide such great bread rolls, now nothing & they barely give you any duck sauce. Good think the soy sauce is on the counter for the taking. It's unfortunate but we've given them chance after chance with great hope they would improve, we will never return - no matter what even if they were the last Chinese food restaurant left on the planet! read more

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! Would have given 0 stars if I could! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I ordered a dinner special and the man on the phone was extremely rude, barking orders at me to give him my card number and then proceeded to hang up without telling me the total or how long I should expect to wait. The driver arrived a half hour later with nothing but rice (which I didn't realize until after I had paid $12). I called back and politely asked if they could bring the rest of my meal and the man immediately began screaming at me that it was my fault and I must have only ordered rice. He then told me that I could have a free order of chicken the NEXT time I ordered from there but that they would not bring me the rest of my meal. Obviously, my next step was to ask for my money back. The man told me that this was not possible since they had already given me rice. I personally brought the rice back (he could not send his driver to get it) and he continued to yell in my face while refunding only part of my money because he said he could not give me back the tip that I gave the driver. It's no wonder the place was completely dead and the kitchen silent while I was in there. Save your time and money!!! Go to West Garden down the street. read more

Never again! Had food delivered last night from a nice young man. After we started our meal we realized they gave us the wrong rice-chicken instead of shrimp, which would not work due to Pescatarian diet. We called and had the phone handed over to the man that had taken our order. Upon explaining that we wanted the correct rice we had ordered, we were answered with a rude abrupt response of "That would be $2. 00 more". I mentioned to him that this was his error and that our meal had been interrupted and inconvenienced. Again, rather than offer an apology for the error and inconvenience, he shortly stated- " just $2.00 more". Twenty five minutes later, our rice arrives. To add insult to injury, the delivery man stated he was instructed to take the now cold wrong rice order back. That is a health violation- and for very good reason. They have no idea what customers could have done to this food once it leaves their possession- what possible use, or sanitary for that matter, could they have had for it? We ASSUME they will dispose of it. Ahh but never assume- we all know how that saying goes. Hope no one ordered chicken fried rice after 8 pm on Saturday night!!! To sum it up- inconvenience, poor customer service, health code violations, and dry food with no flavor- not exactly your idea of a take-out dream! He lost customers for $2. 00 !!!
