    General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special
    Clara W.

Really yummy Chinese take out. Got General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special and definitely gonna order again. Sorry, cash only! Update: Lunch Special is $7.25

When they say food will be ready in "30 minutes" they really mean 90 minutes.

Golden House is worth a 1 star rating, plain and simple. I was fooled into going to Golden House because it had a 4 star Yelp rating, and after having eaten there, realized my mistake. Let me explain: 1. The food is mediocre, at best. I mistakenly thought "over 25 reviews, and a 4 star Yelp rating... it has to be at least decent!" I was wrong. So wrong. Do me a favor. Find me a Chinese person who has rated this restaurant in the Yelp reviews. Still looking? You guessed it - not a single Chinese person has given this Chinese restaurant a rating. And let's be perfectly clear here: this isn't to say that an Italian or a Haitian can't know good Chinese food. But if I want to know where the best Dominican food is in Boston, I'm not going to go ask someone in Chinatown. Same logic applies here. You're trusting the opinions of reviewers who think that General Tso's chicken is a real Chinese dish (sorry to burst your bubble: it's not). 2. Restaurants are in business to make money. Which means some are willing to lie to you in order to get you in the door. Last night was New Year's Eve, and was a busy night. I placed a phone order and was told that the food would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes later and waited another 60 minutes before my food was done. I wasn't the only one pissed off. There were plenty of customers who had been just sitting there for an hour (!) because their food wasn't ready. Do you know what the best part was? The girl who was taking orders on the phone while I was there still kept telling people "your food will be ready in 30 minutes" when they were taking 90 minutes. They knew that if they told the customer the truth, they would go elsewhere. Once you had already ordered and arrived at the store to pick up food, you were stuck because it would take longer to find another place. So let me ask you this question: if Golden House is this willing to lie to you about wait time in order to get your business, what else do they lie to you about? SUMMARY: Golden House is bullshit Americanized food that is most definitely not real Chinese. The food is cooked from frozen (because it is cheaper) and tastes good because of the massive amount of salt and MSG they add to it. Please do yourself a favor and get real Chinese food to compare to this mistake of a restaurant.

The food was greasy and nothing to write home about. Crab Rangoon was 99% cream cheese. I'd skip it if I were you.

Best Chinese food in the region. Drive slow or you can drive right past it. Good potions at a great price.

We ordered 3 combination plates with sesame chicken, crab Rangoon, and pork fried rice, 2 combination plates with general tso chicken, crab Rangoon, and chicken fried rice, one large order of tostones, and one large order of chicken wings for $108. The food was ready after about 15 minutes and was still warm after 30 minutes when we were ready to eat. We all agreed that the food was less greasy than most Chinese food places. Also, the wings were really crispy and tasted fresh. The rice was really good, and surprisingly I did prefer the chicken fried rice. I liked the general tso chicken more than the sesame chicken since it had a bit of spice and more flavor, whereas the sesame chicken was just sweet. I did wish the breading was crispier, but I think it was just because it was take out and about a 20 minute drive. The crab rangoons were good but they did need just a little more filling for my liking. The tostones would have been a lot better right out the oil but it did bring a lot in the order. Overall, I was very satisfied with the portion sizes, flavor, and cost.

These are big, beautiful shrimp. Combo plates are always on point. Everything here is just scrumptious. Only downfall? Cash only. I really wish they took debit or credit. It's 2025, folks. Let's make it happen. Other than that, Mandarin House is a winner. A strong winner. I will keep coming back.

5 Stars for the Usual, but Stick to the Basics…read more Imperial Chinese Food in Roslindale is my go-to spot for a quick and satisfying Chinese food night. Their staple dishes--lo mein, fried rice, crab rangoons, and General Tso's--are always solid and hit the spot when I'm craving takeout. Definitely get the Imperial Fried Rice--it's very yummy and always a favorite! That said, if you're thinking about venturing outside the usual favorites, I'd personally vote against it. A month ago, I decided to try their Salt and Pepper wings, and they were just okay--about a 5/10 for me. Gave them another shot last night, and while they had good flavor, they weren't really Salt and Pepper wings. I'd rate them a 6/10 just for the seasoning alone, but if you're expecting that signature crispy, salty, and peppery punch, you might be disappointed. Overall, Imperial is great for classic takeout, but I'd stick to the usual favorites.

A server was at our table within moments and gave us our menus. Overall the restaurant looked clean although I did find a stray cooked grain of rice on my table although I am unsure where it came from. We each ordered from the lunch specials (no substitutions) and a soda. I asked for a coke and was brought a Diet Coke in a can. Personally I don't care but it might bother someone who has a strong preference for diet vs regular. My order was the hot and sour soup , fried rice with chicken teriyaki / crab Rangoon / spring roll . The hot and sour soup tasted fine but had a gelatinous consistency. I don't usually order hot and sour soup so I'm not sure if this is the texture it's supposed to have but I found it off putting. The main course is fried rice (rice and egg only no vegetables) - no flavor; 1 crab Rangoon - tasted fine; 1 chicken teriyaki - well cooked and most flavorful thing on the plate; 1 spring roll - beautifully fried and crispy but I didn't enjoy the filling. My sister also ordered scallion pancake for us to share. This too was fried beautifully and crispy but had very little scallion flavor which I suppose is to taste... We were brought napkins and asked once if we were doing ok (I had finished eating already). The price overall was fine ~$15 for the lunch special and ~$2-$3 for the soda. When we left hosts said thank you. Overall, was an ok lunch . Would probably not come again.
