Pu Pu is our go-too Chinese takeout!! Ugh I love all their dishes. My favorite dishes are the more authentic dishes. PLEASE ORDER THE SALT & PEPPER PORK!!! We just started ordering here since last year( we're from Florida) as our gift on Mother's Day/Father's day/birthdays/Christmas for our families in West Roxbury. All our relatives say the food is fresh and delicious! We usually order pupu platter, Mongolian beef, shrimp with lobster sauce, egg foo yong, pork lomein and house special fried rice. This is no fancy 5 star restaurant, but as a local chinese takeout spot they do three things right. Excellent food, large portions and certainly cooked to order. Fast service, Under 35 min delivery and about 15 min pick up. Excellent prices, there are plenty of spots around that charge the same, if not more for much less food at a lower quality. I sat inside to eat here recently and it definitely felt like a blast from the past, the decor, the loud mandarin being shouted, and the smells. Authenticity is priceless. read more

Decided to try a new American Chinese place, and Pu Pu was as advertised- pretty solid for what it is. We got a pu pu platter (because their name nearly demands it), and it was a winner. Their boneless spareribs are both more flavorful and more plentiful than some other places, which I love because they're my go-to, and I'm glad we got ourselves an extra side so that we had plenty to go around. Their chicken wing was nicely fried and juicy with perfectly rendered fat, and the batter on the appetizer fried chicken/shrimp is just right for this kind of cuisine (thinner layer than others but still pillowy, crispier outside than others), though FYI their duck sauce for dipping is significantly more brown than the usual orange. I also didn't see a ton of crab rangoon on their menu and no chicken teriyaki, as an FYI- and the beef teriyaki and egg roll were pretty standard. I liked the variety of menu choices overall- the usual sections (chicken, chow fun, etc) but also a mandarin/szechuan section, where we found string beans that did indeed have a tiny kick and served as a nice veg side. They had something called "Hawaiian Shrimp" (or Chicken/Beef) which I decided to check out since this is a place that seems focused on 'polynesian-style American Chinese'- of course it's the opposite of authentic, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was chock full of all kinds of different veggies plus pineapple, which made it a balanced meal on its own. The sauce wasn't as sweet as sweet and sour but was kind of in the same vein (maybe like, half that and half standard 'brown sauce')- I'm not sure I'd order it again, but I don't regret ordering it. The veg fried rice I put it ontop of wasn't my favorite though (not very flavorful, had mushrooms instead of carrots), so I might stick to plain rice or pork fried rice next time. We were recommended to go here from an acquaintance. While we were there, a regular customer asked if this was our first time there and then said this place was the best! They both were right. The service was fast and friendly. They were not impatient as some restaurants can be. We took out the food. When we arrived him, it was still too hot to handle! They even placed cardboard between the containers to keep them from crushing. The only knock is that the mustard for takeout was more sweet than spicy. We had the shrimp fried rice, broccoli in oyster sauce, and Szechuan chicken. All were delicious! Will definitely be back. read more

This restaurant has been around for my whole life and though it has changed management, it has been a cheap reliable source of tasty Chinese food. My choices don't vary much so I can't speak for the whole menu, but based on what I have ordered it is definitely worth it. My go to include pork fried rice, beef teriyaki, and general tso's chicken. You get plenty of food for under $10 and it's quite delicious. My only complaint would be that they put too much sauce on the chicken and occasionally it has too much breading. For the price you pay and the amount of food you receive, you can't go wrong. The Peking ravioli here has absolutely amazing and to die for. The price is fair and the food is flavorful. I highly recommend you purchase these. I've never gotten delivery, but it's around a 10 minute wait for your food depending on when you arrive. I can't speak for this part myself, but my wife swears by the horseradish sauce here. I'm not a fan of horseradish, but she's tried all sorts of varieties and this is one of her favorites. Edit: Editing almost a year later. This place is still amazing with great portions for the price. Beef teriyaki sticks and Peking ravioli are still my favorite. This isn't Chinese food, or even food for that matter. I felt like a horse chewing hay, or a farmer making due with old mutton during a famine. I'm Chinese and I've tried it 2-3 times to give "my people" the benefit of the doubt. I really wanted to like it, because it's so close to my house! But everything tastes the same, because everything is cooked in the same thick, re-used oil. (If you didn't know, cheap Chinese restaurants re-use the oil to save resources so it's chock full of cholesterol. Why else would the prices be so dirt cheap?) That fried rice is the rice from yesterday or the day before-- once it's fried you can't taste it's old anymore. Nice way to cut corners. The BBQ pork strips were completely pink, perhaps pinker than my childhood Barbie's dress. Wonder how healthy and organic that's gotta be. Unfortunate name (Pu Pu), but the food is classic Chinese. It is exactly what you would expect from a Chines restraunt in the Boston area. I liked the fact Pu Pu wants your business and when it screws up on a delivery order it offers coupons and sometimes will correct the issue on the spot. Delivery times are reasonably good. One of the biggest negatives about Boston is the fact that almost everything food related closes around 9pm. I know that there are the exceptions to this but it's slim pickings, depending on where you live. The nice thing about Pu Pu is that it is open late (around midnight). There really nothing too special about this place other than that. The food isn't the worst you'll ever have but don't go in expecting the best. I feel like they may have a lot of their things on the menu pre-made so that when someone orders it, they can have it up right away. Sometimes the rice can be a little clumpy and the sweet and sour chicken is very pastey. The delivery is fast and that's a plus. Their location is hard to find parking, leaving delivery as the only option for me. The Hunan Chicken was good, but their Pu Pu platter was awful. They also have the absolute worst crab rangoons I have ever had. I love crab rangoons and these were terrible, absolutely terrible, I was so disappointed. Working in the City allows me to try all sorts of places. I have eaten at PuPu a few times. The food is hot, very hot, and quickly served. There is not table service. You order at the counter, they call you and you take it and eat. There are no frills here. They have good portions of food and it is rather flavorful. And the food is relatively cheap. Actually one of the lower priced places I have seen in a while. I would definitely go back. For those buffons that say that the food has too much MSG...how do you know? You can't taste it. So your thirsty...salt does the same thing. Besides...this is CHINESE FOOD. Go order a salad if you didn't want to be thirsty. read more
