This is a take-out only place with pretty good Chinese food if you're in the area and not willing to drive too far. The flavors were good, and the food was fresh, but I think just lacks a little finesse. The wonton soup was the best thing we ordered--broth was delicious, and good mix of vegetables were included, but the dumplings tasted a little flat. The scallion pancake is a specialty, but I think they overdid it on the crispy coating, and it sloughed off in large crispy pieces that were too dry to enjoy on their own. The General Gau's chicken is also a specialty, and reminds me of a sweet sesame chicken. It was flavorful and satisfying! But the chicken was overcooked (some pieces were even dry inside the fried batter coating). Overall, I think this is a great stop for locals who just want a quick dinner, but likely not a destination for everybody else. read more

Dragon chef is an old-school American Chinese restaurant. They serve up a variety of dishes. Anything from a poo poo platter to Chinatown styled foods. They have an old-school lobster sauce, which is delicious. The egg foo is cooked to perfection. you can get a poo poo platter for one or two. I usually get the one for two as it's old-school Chinese so it stays in the fridge and of course you have snacks throughout the week. they do a great job Chinatown style fools also. I was surprised when tasting their Chow Foon, the rice noodle was thick and tasty. The amount of vegetables and beef were perfect actually a great dish without going into Boston. As for the location right next to 7-Eleven, they share a parking lot with only about 10 spots. So once in a while, you have to wait for a spot to go in and order or take out. And this is very important. There are no tables at all. This is 100% takeout only there is no eat in at this location at all whatsoever. I repeat 100% takeout no tables. One thing I do like about this spot is they have a big glass wall so you can see them cooking everything in the kitchen up close and friendly. The help is usually polite and efficient. If you want some old-school Chinese American dishes this is the place. I would suggest trying an eggroll as there are not too many places left that serve the old school egg rolls. Certain things here are good, certain things are not so good. The employees here are nice and hard working. The open kitchen is cool and not common; watching them cook is awesome. My favorite items are the ravioli; their dipping sauce s fantastic. Their boneless ribs are great and taste better in the add-on then a full order because the mini order is served in plastic wrap which seals in the moisture so they don't dry out. Their wings and other pu pu platter items usually are pretty good. Their soups are ok and I'm also a fan of their noodle dishes. Their portions are big; but don't expect anything too fancy. I go to the Dragon Chef every time I am in the neighborhood. Their servings sizes are enormous. I usually get the Moo Goo Gai Pan with Fried Rice. I never have to worry about the serving size because their portions are enormous. The one problem I have is that the parking is limited. I use to park in a neighboring restaurant while I ran in to the Dragon Chef. I discovered that they do have parking in a neighboring lot a strip mall. Favorite spot for fast casual Chinese food in Needham! We've been going here every since I was little! Some personal favorites include their chicken lo mein, chicken and broccoli, orange chicken, and dumplings. They are take out only, with no seats available. They do have a cooler of beverage options. Staff always wearing masks and they have a shield around the register. They do get busy on holidays etc. so sometimes helpful to call your order in early if you need your food for a certain time! Dragon Chef is your typical greasy, hole-in-the-wall (not in a bad way) Chinese place. When we're craving this type of Chinese (rather than gourmet), this is where we order from. My husband loves their combination platters - and I do too, but I don't like some of the options. I am not a big fan of fried rice, so I always end up paying a bit extra for lo mein. And some of the options are odd (like 2 appetizers, but no "carb" side...). But - we somehow always make it work so we get what we like. Seeing the recent reviews, I'd thought that this would've been an amazing place to eat. I was wrong. We ordered the vegetable egg foo yung, chicken and broccoli, scallion pancakes, egg rolls, and chicken teriyaki. Despite asking for things to be cooked well done and crisp, most of the food was undercooked and floppy, while covered in grease. There was almost half an inch of grease on top of the sauce for both the egg foo yung and the chicken and broccoli. In addition to the lack of grease, the dishes had no flavor or seasoning, and had to rely on the sauces for even a smidge of flavor, even though the sauces were lacking in any taste as well. They could have just been having an off day, but it was very slow there and personally I will not be returning. read more

Not special but fine. I asked if they had Kung Pao beef and they said yes. What I got was some beef with a LOT of celery and brown sauce and no sign of peppers. Turns out that was off menu. For a Chinese take out place, this is pretty good comfort food quality Chinese food. We really, really, really liked the boneless spare ribs (thanks, other Yelpers for suggesting that dish). We also had shrimp fried rice - perfectly fine and we kept having "just one spoonful more" - again and again. We also ordered the spinach tofu - we thought it might be a bit bland but after we were done we realized that there was a little tub of thin brownish sauce that came in the take out package - in retrospect it might have belonged to that dish so shame on us for not putting a bit on to taste it. All in all, the portions were very generous - so much so that we'll probably get another full meal out of it. Not bad value at all for under $10 per dish. We will have no hesitation in going back again in the future. read more
