A friend was visiting from out of town and this was one of the places I thought would be unique for her to visit. We shared the loco moski, paprikash sandwich, and a side of bacon wrapped tots (good option if you just want 2 and not the full appetizer). While the bacon wrapped tots are famous from Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, I actually liked the loco moski and paprikash sandwich more. The loco moski is a fun combination between a loco moco but with pierogi, and I like that the peppered gravy wasn't too rich. The paprikash sandwich was also a great combo of chicken, sausage, peppers, cheese, paprikash, on lightly crispy bread. Parking available as free street parking--though you may have to circle to find parking since it's near the Christmas House. Staff were nice and efficient. The place does feel a little tight in terms of space with less lighting, but there's still plenty of seating and what matters to me more is good food. Overall, great place to try local food. Would get the loco moski and paprikash sandwich again. read more

This place is a one stop shop for many Cleveland classics both original and vegan versions. My pre-trip research brought this place to my attention. I wanted to try the pierogi and the Polish boy and the KRAUT and having an extensive beer menu doesn't hurt either. Friendly neighborhood watering hole literally on the corner and basically across the street from the a Christmas story house allowing you to eat within eye sight of the leg lamp. I wanted basically everything from the menu that came vegan (spoiler alert there are tons and tons of things) but gastric space comes at a premium on vacation so we settled on the fried cheese. I was very excited to see the Polish boy (and vegan option no less) I didn't have much of a choice. GF ordered the vegan pierogi platter with vegan kielbasa on a bed of kraut. Firstly the fried cheese was head and shoulders above any mozz sticks or anything of the sort that I have had in memory. The breading is seasoned and crispy and heaven on earth. The cheese is PIPING. Like you will burn yourself if you, like me, have no patience. The accompanying tomato sauce is also steaming. So good. The Polish boy was also in a league of its own. Love that they have a vegan version. What a combo. Probably one of Cleveland's most important community contributions. We ordered the latkes to go and they were orgasmic. Don't go! I'm not sure why this place is as well rated as it is. Maybe people visiting the Christmas Story House are full of the holiday spirit. Parking was on the street and difficult to find. The CSH was closed otherwise it would be a nightmare. The best thing on the menu was the fried pretzel. Maybe order that as a meal. I had the steak fries with shrimp. Both steak and shrimp were so overcooked as to be inedible. The flavor of basil pesto was off putting. My friend said there meatloaf was spicy. It didn't look appealing on the plate either. Echoing some of the lower reviews I've read about this restaurant: I'm not sure why it's rated so high. But, the cooks aren't exactly aware how to cook some or the finer items on the menu (steak, salmon, etc.) We ordered chicken tenders and fries, wings, salmon, steak, and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken tenders, fries, and wings were good. The chefs definitely know how to fried some food. However, the steak was overcooked and the salmon was so undercooked it was completely raw in the center. I alerted the staff and they responded by saying: "what do you want?" No immediate apologies, just a matter of fact retort. The manager later came and removed 10% from the check, although I was paid $22 for salmon I ultimately couldn't eat. The manager also made sure to tell me I should've said something earlier because they would've remade the food. No thanks. Once you've served me raw salmon once, I won't stick around for you to do again. Needless to say, we won't be returning. If you're visiting, stick to the fried and grilled finger foods that bars and taverns usually do well. read more

Another great neighborhood bar in Cleveland. Most tourists visit because it's next to the famous house from the movie A Christmas Story, but that didn't factor into my decision, nor did it interest me much. I was here for a cold beverage and some pierogies. The pierogies are very good and are served both traditionally and in several souped-up versions, including Buffalo, Poutine, and one topped with a burger patty. I ordered the Loaded version, served with kielbasa, bacon, and sauerkraut. If it weren't for the sauerkraut, I wouldn't have been able to eat much of it, not because it wasn't good, but because it was incredibly rich. I also ordered the bacon-wrapped tots, which were another delicious bar snack. They're about the size of four regular tater tots. The bacon and exterior are super crispy, while the inside differs from their smaller cousins by being creamy rather than hash brown like. The bar itself is full of character and and a few characters. A neighborhood bar that has been here for years. It used to be a dive bar years ago, but is now a very popular spot to grab something to eat and have a few drinks. They were very crowded, but by luck we didn't have to wait for a seat. It's definitely a small place and the tables are close together. Our waiter was very nice and checked on us often. The menu is not very large, but definitely some good options. The food was very good. I was pleasantly surprised, although it can be pricey. It is a very loud place, so if you want quiet, this would not be it. The only thing complaint I have was there was a very noticeable draft where we were sitting and no we were not by the front door. Another Triple D joint, another homerun meal in Cleveland! Directly across the street from "A Christmas Story" lies a perfect dive with great eats! My salmon avacado toast was phenomenal. Good sourdough, flavorful dill cream cheese, lots of avocado and salmon. It was hearty and delicious. The star of the show for me were the pickled onions and capers on the toast. Briny acid cut the richness. I got a side of apples, nuts and honey. Very good candied walnuts but (I know this picky) my apples were cut poorly, still had the tough core and seeds, but oh well. I was so impressed by the food here! It was recommended to me as "good bar food" but this is far from what I would call bar food! This may be a bar - but they have amazing restaurant style food. I would come here again just for the food. Although the drinks are good too. I should note that the food is definitely not priced as bar food. It's a little on the pricier side, but I can see why. We love the food at the Rowley Inn, especially the vegan options. It allows our entire family a chance to eat breakfast out together. We always call ahead and it takes about 20 minutes to drive to the Rowley Inn. We still had a short wait upon arrival but it wasn't bad. It was Father's Day and it was very busy. We were seated in the back directly over a vent and it was very cold during our entire meal. I asked to move but was told the empty tables were for reservations and there were no moving tables. I was not aware we could make reservations. It seems they take reservations on Mother's Day and Father's Day. Now we know. We were happy with the meal. read more

The food is amazing, the portions are huge, and they have a great selection of local beers. It gets packed at times there was a 25 minute wait for a table when we got there so we sat at the bar instead. The staff is great. This place was such an exciting surprise for us!!! I can't even tell you how grateful we were for finding it, doesn't look very big from the outside but it's actually pretty big on the inside. We sat at the bar and the bartender was so incredibly helpful and great with suggestions from the menu. I found this place on Reddit and I must say, this was probably the best brunch that I've ever had. As soon as I wanted into the place, I knew I had found the right place. It's a beautiful neighborhood bar that is large and very clean, yet feels very inviting. The staff was super friendly and made excellent recommendations. Everyone that came into the place was greeted with genuine enthusiasm and hospitality. The food was absolutely amazing! They had one crabcake left and asked if I wanted it as a sandwich or as an appetizer. It was probably one of the best crabcakes I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, plenty of crab meat, and served with a delicious remoulade. The poutine breakfast dish was equally was amazing.
