Outstanding choice for dining in Cleveland. If you are looking for a quintessential Cleveland experience, this is it. The Rowley Inn is located in a nice neighborhood (Tremont) across the street from the Christmas Story house. I had three meals there. The first, loaded pierogis, was the ultimate comfort dish. Pierogis with potato centers were covered in diced kielbasa, bacon (yes, bacon), and covered in cheddar cheese. Ahhhhh. The others at my table raved about the kielbasa and pierogi dish. They also liked the beer selection. How do you know you have a great find? You think about the meal long after it is consumed. Next meal- breakfast. I had the kielbasa and pierogi omelet. Need I say more? Finally, we came back a third time and I ordered the burger. No burger place (save Chuckbox in Tempe, AZ) can match the Rowley burger. The burger is actually seasoned and cooked to order. I had it medium rare. Sheer perfection. Typing this review makes me sad because I live far away from Cleveland. It was a rainy evening when we arrived and they were closing in a couple hours. This place is definitely a bar- but children are allowed, but it has bar atmosphere -being dark and loud. A waitress came to take her order, but she was not very friendly and then it took forever to get our food. We only got two entrées to share between the three of us because we wanted to try to see what the fuss was about at this place. What we ate was decent, but honestly nothing that stuck with us enough to say- COME HERE! We definitely didn't understand all the good reviews when our food finally came out. They didn't even come out together and our second plate was wrong when it finally arrived so it had to get redone. So the service really got to us especially since there were only 2 other tables being waited on and a couple stragglers sitting at the bar. Parking is street parking in a neighborhood! Across the street from the A Christmas Story House is the Rowley Inn. One thing we just had to experience was great Polish food during our trip, so our friends chose this for us. They have a large menu of various pierogies and kielbasas, as well as traditional pub fare. They also have a great beer menu of the core basics and well as Cleveland/Ohio craft selections. The actual place feels like your inside an old house, with low ceilings and dim lighting. Our server was efficient and welcoming. They have a great bar area right inside the door too, and lean into their location with their own major award right inside. Maybe it was because we went on a slower , rainy evening in the middle of the week but the service we received sure didn't match the reviews we saw on Yelp. The food we finally got was pretty decent. We ordered two entrées, but it took forever to arrive and when the second one did arrive, it was wrong so we had to wait some more. The waitstaff was not very attentive or friendly. A friend was visiting from out of town and this was one of the places I thought would be unique for her to visit. We shared the loco moski, paprikash sandwich, and a side of bacon wrapped tots (good option if you just want 2 and not the full appetizer). While the bacon wrapped tots are famous from Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, I actually liked the loco moski and paprikash sandwich more. The loco moski is a fun combination between a loco moco but with pierogi, and I like that the peppered gravy wasn't too rich. The paprikash sandwich was also a great combo of chicken, sausage, peppers, cheese, paprikash, on lightly crispy bread. Parking available as free street parking--though you may have to circle to find parking since it's near the Christmas House. Staff were nice and efficient. The place does feel a little tight in terms of space with less lighting, but there's still plenty of seating and what matters to me more is good food. Overall, great place to try local food. We discovered The Rowley Inn while touring the A Christmas Story House right across the street. We were told that many of the cast members ate here while filming the movie, which made us even more excited to give it a try. After looking over the menu, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of both vegan and non-vegan options available. In fact, if you ask, they have a separate vegan menu with tons of choices, making it easy for everyone in our group to find something appealing. The atmosphere has that classic small-town neighborhood bar feel--casual, comfortable, and full of local charm. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick, which made the experience even better. We ordered the vegan pierogi dinner and the meatloaf dinner. The vegan cheese in the pierogies wasn't our favorite, but the dish was still very flavorful and enjoyable overall. This place is a one stop shop for many Cleveland classics both original and vegan versions. My pre-trip research brought this place to my attention. I wanted to try the pierogi and the Polish boy and the KRAUT and having an extensive beer menu doesn't hurt either. Friendly neighborhood watering hole literally on the corner and basically across the street from the a Christmas story house allowing you to eat within eye sight of the leg lamp. I wanted basically everything from the menu that came vegan (spoiler alert there are tons and tons of things) but gastric space comes at a premium on vacation so we settled on the fried cheese. I was very excited to see the Polish boy (and vegan option no less) I didn't have much of a choice. GF ordered the vegan pierogi platter with vegan kielbasa on a bed of kraut. Firstly the fried cheese was head and shoulders above any mozz sticks or anything of the sort that I have had in memory. The breading is seasoned and crispy and heaven on earth. The cheese is PIPING. Like you will burn yourself if you, like me, have no patience. The accompanying tomato sauce is also steaming. So good. The Polish boy was also in a league of its own. Another Triple D joint, another homerun meal in Cleveland! Directly across the street from "A Christmas Story" lies a perfect dive with great eats! My salmon avacado toast was phenomenal. Good sourdough, flavorful dill cream cheese, lots of avocado and salmon. It was hearty and delicious. The star of the show for me were the pickled onions and capers on the toast. A neighborhood bar that has been here for years. It used to be a dive bar years ago, but is now a very popular spot to grab something to eat and have a few drinks. They were very crowded, but by luck we didn't have to wait for a seat. It's definitely a small place and the tables are close together. Our waiter was very nice and checked on us often. The menu is not very large, but definitely some good options. The food was very good. I was pleasantly surprised, although it can be pricey. Echoing some of the lower reviews I've read about this restaurant: I'm not sure why it's rated so high. But, the cooks aren't exactly aware how to cook some or the finer items on the menu (steak, salmon, etc.) We ordered chicken tenders and fries, wings, salmon, steak, and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken tenders, fries, and wings were good. The chefs definitely know how to fried some food. However, the steak was overcooked and the salmon was so undercooked it was completely raw in the center. I alerted the staff and they responded by saying: "what do you want?" No immediate apologies, just a matter of fact retort. The manager later came and removed 10% from the check, although I was paid $22 for salmon I ultimately couldn't eat. The manager also made sure to tell me I should've said something earlier because they would've remade the food. No thanks. Once you've served me raw salmon once, I won't stick around for you to do again. Needless to say, we won't be returning. If you're visiting, stick to the fried and grilled finger foods that bars and taverns usually do well. read more

Most tourists visit because it's next to the famous house from the movie A Christmas Story, but that didn't factor into my decision, nor did it interest me much. I was here for a cold beverage and some pierogies. The pierogies are very good and are served both traditionally and in several souped-up versions, including Buffalo, Poutine, and one topped with a burger patty. I ordered the Loaded version, served with kielbasa, bacon, and sauerkraut. If it weren't for the sauerkraut, I wouldn't have been able to eat much of it, not because it wasn't good, but because it was incredibly rich. I also ordered the bacon-wrapped tots, which were another delicious bar snack. They're about the size of four regular tater tots. The bacon and exterior are super crispy, while the inside differs from their smaller cousins by being creamy rather than hash brown like. The bar itself is full of character and and a few characters. I found this place on Reddit and I must say, this was probably the best brunch that I've ever had. As soon as I wanted into the place, I knew I had found the right place. It's a beautiful neighborhood bar that is large and very clean, yet feels very inviting. The staff was super friendly and made excellent recommendations. Everyone that came into the place was greeted with genuine enthusiasm and hospitality. The food was absolutely amazing! They had one crabcake left and asked if I wanted it as a sandwich or as an appetizer. It was probably one of the best crabcakes I've ever had.
