Seriously guys, this place is no joke. I have been trying to find a hair salon by me for MONTHS that does a good job with hair. I had red hair for years and wanted to go back to my natural color, which is dirty blonde. I wanted to go some place good with stylists that are experienced in color correction. I've heard of Public Shoppe before but always was looking to find the cheap salons, which never worked out in my favor. It's a little pricier than average at Public Shoppe, but it is SO worth it. I booked my appointment with Ginny because the employee on the phone recommended her since she does color correcting. Amazing experience, 10/10. She's so personable, upfront with you, and sooo skilled at hair. Highly recommend booking with Ginny!! I came in with bright red hair, and after only one session, the first pic is how it turned out. Insane!! I still have more sessions so I'm not at my goal color yet, but so far I am blown away by the process. Go here for your hair!!! read more

Molly (the Owner of Public Salon & Shoppe)  staff (who are like her family) are AMAZING!!! I only briefly met her and another stylist (artist), named Alex for a few minutes well walking around Downtown Arlington Heights around Halloween.  Their make-up, hair and their clothing were so much fun, I asked if I could take pictures  I sent Alex them via text and was going to get in touch when I was ready to donate my hair by buzzing it. Recently, I found out that I had breast cancer for my second time.  Last time (10 years ago), it was scary and it made me cry, although I had it cut short, waking up with hair all over my pillow. This time, I wanted to take control before it took control of me!  I texted Alex to see if she could cut my hair, and told her the situation.  I said that some salons give free haircuts to people donating their hair and others who are going through chemo and asked if they do that too. Although she had an emergency that she was dealing with, she still took the time to text me.   She said to check with the manager by calling the salon.  I spoke with Bridget, at the front desk who was so sweet and told her my story.  She relayed it to Molly, who responded right away and Bridget booked an appointment with Molly for FREE right away.  Molly and I and her staff had so much fun with my hair and my new transition.  She was so caring and took the time to have fun with my hair, as I asked her to do, she made an 80's Mohawk, similar to the lead singer of Bow Wow Wow!!!  In addition, she added lots of fun, temporary color, even sparkles!!! I don't know who had more fun? We both had a LOT of laughs, and I love what she did! She recommended keeping the top (Mohawk), or wear it down, until it starts to come out.  This way, I can still have fun for a bit and she will shave the rest later, or I can. My cousins had fun putting my hair in a spiky Mohawk the next day! I would highly recommend going to Public Salon & Shoppe!  In addition, they have really nice clothes, accessories, soaps, and candles etc. all at very reasonable prices! read more

One of the worst haircuts I've had in a while from a senior stylist no less. I asked for my hair length to be right underneath my boobs and got this choppy confusing haircut. I also asked for layers and have the most choppy layers that were cut across instead of at an angle. The hair on my nape is way shorter then the rest of my hair and the longest is on the sides... I thought about calling in to somehow get this fixed but decided against it since there's nothing they could possibly do to fix my haircut. The layers and overall length are all at different lengths and I prefer not to go as short as the length I have at the nape. The first and last time I go to this salon. If you have thick, coarse, Asian hair. Definitely would not recommend. read more

This was my first time trying Public with absolutely no recommendations and yet I was nothing but impressed and satisfied. The environment was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Ginny took her time listening to all of my concerns and helped me fix a poorly done balayage from a different "top tier" salon I had gone to. She managed to get me back into the direction of my natural color and I can honestly say, I will only be coming back to Public. Her work speaks for itself and I cannot wait to go back. Amelia Nielsen. PERIOD. I kept seeing her social media posts and was shocked by how beautiful each clients end result was. She's a master of color and very VERY talented, you can just tell from her work, it speaks for itself. I booked a balayage with her and was so excited when the day finally came. The salon is super cute and instagrammy, if you will. It has a very modern and clean feel, which i DIE for. I was so excited to see they have a ring light to take pictures of your hair to show it off and who doesn't want an awesome picture to share of their freshly done hair? Now, the part you've been reading thus far for - my experience with Amelia. First of all, let me just say my hair was over 28" long, thick, and has been dyed red, purple, dark brown, etc. She consulted with me for over 10 mins before she started anything which was shocking to me because I've never had that experience, but it stood out to me. She started the balayage on my hair and really took her time to make sure each foil got the same attention to detail. She was right there paying attention to my hair while it was processing. What I mean by that is, since I have such long, curly, thick hair usually hair stylists book other people while I'm in their chair, but Amelia didn't. I didn't feel like she was rushing me out of her chair or that my hair was a burden to her schedule. She washed my hair using Olaplex which is top of the line hair care. (A small bottle at Sephora will run you about $30.) When it came to toner, again I was SHOCKED. She put me back in her hair to tone my hair because she has more control and can be more detailed - Again, something I have never experienced before!! Usually my neck breaks as I'm sitting in the wash bowl with a gallon of toner in my hair. She took her time to blow dry my hair straight and cut it. The attention to detail in my hair cut was, as you could probably guess, shocking! I'm in LOVE with my hair now!! My hair has never looked or felt so good. My hair looks good when its straight now because my hair is BLENDED and so seamless. She made sure to go the extra mile and take nice pictures in front of the ring light of my hair to send to me. My experience was not stressful at all, which was so relieving. I recommend her 10000000000%. She is amazing, talented, so sweet, passionate, and overall THE BEST. I have literally never been to a better salon. Everyone was so nice to me. I came in for help with my hair because of negligence on my part. My long hair was VERY knotted and matted at the base of my scalp due to depression and overall intimidation. I came in to see Cassidy, and she did such a great job. She was really nice and patient with my hair. I was so sure that it was going to take several sessions and a lot of money, but she did it in one session with a very reasonable fare. You can really tell she has a passion for hair and that she knows what she's doing. She gave me great tips on how to maintain my hair and keep it from knotting again. This salon is super modern and chic, plus it is located in the cutest area! From the stylists to the receptionist, everybody was extremely friendly. My stylist, Kady, did an amazing job with my hair!
