She (redhead) did a Supercut level of a tiny trim on the ends to even out the rear portion. Definitely not worth the inflated cost of a cut on their standard price list, I think it was $85+ Considering it took a Groupon to lure me in there, the trim should have blown my mind, not make me leave a pity tip of $20 because this was a first and last visit. read more

Bad experience with hair color. She doesn't seem to be able to color dark brown hair. She ruined my hair on my scalp (new untouched hair) and it looked like Brassy highlights. She had terrible attitude and didn't want to speak and if spoken the response was sassy rude. Her name was Cosmina. I wasn't going to add this review but I noticed someone in the reviews also mentioned how bad She did with their shade of color and the cut wasn't close to it like my experience. I've been coming here for a while, and have been meaning to write a review! Everyone here is super friendly! Jasmine, the receptionist, is always so kind and welcoming when I come into the salon! I will literally never trust anyone more than I do with my hair, than Fallon and Lauren. I've never seen two stylist who put so much care into their work! They are truly perfectionists! Fallon is an amazing colorist! Shes a certified Wella master color expert, so she really knows what she's doing! I'm the kind of girl that likes to change my hair color up 24/7, and Fallon always goes above and beyond! I get so many compliments everywhere I go! I will never go elsewhere for my hair! I have A LOT of thick hair that is naturally very dark, and it's hard to find stylists that can work with it to my liking. I've gotten cuts from both Don and Lauren, and they are both fantastic. They both knew how to work with the heavy mop I had on my head and change it into a style that made me feel beautiful. I rarely write reviews, but after my last color appointment with Fallon at Salon Donato I HAD to let everyone know that she is a hair wizard! She gave me the pink hair of my dreams, and made me comfortable (along with the rest of the team who made me feel at home) during the approximately 10 hr long appointment. Worst experience of my life and I left in tears. I called the salon 2 times and emailed them about Buying their groupon before I bought it that Includes " Single process color, conditioning treatment and haircut". I confirmed with their receptionist on 3/27 But that was all I needed for the appointment. Additionally they also called me to confirm. I came at 555pm for my 6pm appt. The stylist took me back right away And instead of starting with my haircut they wanted to do the color. Thats fine - I sat down very excited and I left these stylist know the color I was looking for. She'd then told me the Groupon is only good for a root touch up and not a single process color as advertised and as I was told by their recpetionist. Then she told me to dye the ends would be more money. I was not prepared for this. I walked in fully expecting everything to be taking care of as I was told it would be. Then I expressed that I could not afford this at that time which extremely embarassed me and then they told me I could wait 1 hr 45 mins to get my haircut if I wanted. Firstl y they should have started with my haircut and we're just looking to get more money by having me dye my ends at full length and then cut them off? Seriously. I worked in a salon I know. Secondly no one at any turn stopped to actually help me and I left. This was awful and deceitful and a cash grab. If I would have been told to bring more I would have But their own people told me I was taken care of. That was how much dignity and integrity they have. I I have contacted groupon to let them know that this advertisement is false as well. I really, really don't like going to salons. Having not been born with the knack to do girly things, like style my hair, I always dread having someone else examine my dry, damaged and greying hair. But this time, I left Salon Donato feeling confident and refreshed. Fallon expertly colored my hair with the perfect blend of warmth and rich tones. She also mentioned the salon offers $20 touch ups that can erase those grays that pop out after 3-4 weeks. Perfect! Then Don gave me a great cut and sound advice (such as "Go with a side part, not a middle part") as we chatted it up. What a great guy! He was so easy to talk to and definitely knows what he's doing. I had such a wonderful experience with Kristin. She recently microbladed my eyebrows and did such a wonderful job. They look so natural, and I get complimented all the time on them. Her color choice was incredible. She was also so knowledgeable about caring for my brows. After years of spending a fortune on eyebrow products, I couldn't be happier. Honestly the worst salon experience of my life. Normally I don't speak out against experiences that are somewhat different than what I wanted but this hair stylist had no idea what she was doing. I asked to lighten my already dark brown hair and she went ahead without bleaching and expected it to lighten shades lighter. She then proceeded to make me blow dry my own hair and it was not even close to what I wanted and I complained and she did it again bleaching my scalp with damp hair. My scalp was burning at this point and the color was too orange and not what I wanted. They ended up over charging me for a horrible experience and I ended up dying my hair again at home because the color was truly horrendous. I usually don't write bad reviews but I'm so disappointed in how my hair turned out. I asked for a basic cut to get rid of dead ends, which I initially thought was done after the cut when the stylist defused my hair to its natural curl. A couple days later I tried to straightened my hair and realized I had several different areas of hair that were a few inches longer than the shoulder length cut. I recently got my hair done here and experienced a very rude staff. Very unfriendly and I will not be returning.

The salon appeared very clean and organized. I came in for a cut and full highlights. I was seated at a stylist's station right away, but then sat there and waited, for quite a while, without being acknowledged. When I was finally acknowledged, it was by a group of 3 woman, who seemed extremely unorganized and spent a great deal of time debating who was going to cut my hair and who was going to color it. I should mention that there was only one other customer present in the salon, so it isn't like they were crazy busy. The cut came out okay. However, my full set of highlights, ended up being two strips in the very front of my hair and one additional strip in the center of the right side of my head. If that service wasn't bad enough, ALL of the color came out of my hair in less than a week, leaving me with the bleached white sections where the color should have been. My problem is they advertise through Groupon, and then when you try to use the Groupon they do not honor it. Their excuse is they do not have availability. This has happened twice; and when they do have availability they will charge more (they won't say how much) for the services already purchased on the Groupon! I feel like it's a bait and switch scheme. I will not support a business that does not honor their own marketing ads - especially when a customer tries to use the Groupon within the terms they advertise and they won't honor the Groupon when they do have availability. read more

After recently moving to the area, I found this place on Groupon. It was highly rated, so I decided to give it a try. I had my cut done by Lauren and I really liked it. When it was time to get my next trim, I made my appointment with her again. I think my jaw hit the floor when they said that my total was $65... that was for a wash and a 1 inch trim. I was in the chair for not even an hour. I called the owner the next day and he explained that yes, because of all of their years of experience, both his and Lauren's cuts start at $65. I could understand a LITTLE bit if I had gotten a dramatic cut, but again, this was just a trim. Also, this salon is in a strip mall in Palatine... not on Michigan Ave. in the city. Although it is pretty inside, it is not worth the pretty penny. I will not be returning. read more

So, I have been trying to hunt down a good salon ever since I moved up to Woodstock (ie: far away from my favorite salon in the city). I have had bad experience after bad experience, paying hundreds of dollars to walk out of a salon disappointed (one time, even in tears). I have been trying to use Groupon as a way to test out salons while not having to pay full price salon fees to be fully disappointed in their work. Let's face it, the luxury of fancy hairdos and color are not cheap...and I'd rather keep some money in my pocket if I'm going to be stuck with garbage hair for a couple months. Welp...I think my search is over. From start-to-finish, this salon has it all. A great environment: Clean, timeless, classy. You're greeted warmly. You aren't waiting an hour for your stylist to finish up with someone else. I met with Fallon first and we discussed fully what I was looking to accomplish and then reviewed my options. Alex was the stylist who was doing my haircut. The two discussed what their plans were for my hair, when they'd be transitioning me from one chair to the next and what they needed the other to do to prep them for the next person to take over. Fallon did a great job "painting" my hair to get it from the light brown it was back to my dearly-missed blonde. After doing so, we realized some old color that was hiding underneath had made a reintroduction. So, Alex got on with the cut -did a superb job- and back I went to Fallon so she could try and tone out some of the pink. When she finished, she dried my hair and...bye-bye, pink hair. Alex then went on to make some final snips to my hair and styled it for me. I literally could go on and on with how impressed I was with these 2 ladies. They were great conversationalists without being nosy or seeming like they were prying into my life. I've been in the chair of some stylists that just have a way about being pushy and wanting to know things about you that you don't necessarily want to share with a stranger. Fallon and Alex were relatable and made me feel entirely comfortable sharing details about myself...but never did it feel pushy. It felt like I was chatting with gal pals. I've gotten nothing but compliments on my new 'do, and I didn't need an adjustment period at all. Sometimes it takes me a day or two to really like a new look on me. This time, it was instant! I have definitely found my new salon and TWO new favorite stylists. I am looking forward to going back. No more Groupons for me! :-D read more
