Avoid Public Storage for long term storage. Beware that Public Storage will penalize you for every year you are a customer. They will raise your rent every year, usually about 10%, although this year they wanted to raise mine by 19% ($150 per month), which I got them to reduce to a "generous" 6% increase of $50 per month. I started renting my 10 x 20 unit in 2012 for $260. After 14 years as a loyal customer, my rent will be $838. They will charge a new customer in the same facility for an identical 10 x 20 unit only $479. Bottom line, avoid Public Storage for long term storage needs. read more

I rented a unit at this Public Storage location at the beginning of October. When I returned on Wednesday, November 19th, I discovered that the lock on my unit had been changed. Once they removed the lock, it became clear that someone had broken into my unit and stolen nearly everything I had stored there including power tools, bins, clothing, and jewelry. Public Storage's response was basically nothing. They washed their hands of the situation immediately. No explanation, no accountability, no follow-up, and no effort to help. All I was told was, "That's why you have insurance." Since then, they've been essentially radio silent. When I called the police to file a report, the responding officer told me that two other units had also been broken into at this same location earlier that day. After reviewing other customer reviews, it turns out this is a pattern at this facility. Break-ins are common here, and security is extremely poor. There are no cameras inside the building where the interior hallway units are located. The only cameras on-site are outside, which means if you rent an interior unit there is zero surveillance and no way to monitor who is accessing the hallways. Staff's idea of security is simply checking whether a lock is present, not whether the lock is actually yours or whether anyone has tampered with the unit. If you plan to store anything valuable here, understand that it is not safe and not protected. Public Storage offers no real security, takes no responsibility when theft occurs, and will ultimately tell you everything is at your own risk. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you value your belongings. read more

We got a small unit, but with everything packed in totes, there plenty of room with the high ceiling. Property manager John is great. He really cares about the property and does a great job. I stored my belongings for almost 2 years and had no issues. No rodents, bugs, or theft. The property is safe, clean, and well managed. I moved out of state or I would have ​stayed longer. At times, the gate and the app would get disconnected and I'd have to get out of my car but otherwise not a big deal. There was also a steep jump in the rent price about 6 months into renting here, as the property went from staying open until 6pm to 9pm. I am not sure if rent spikes are a common occurrence or not, but it wasn't terrible. I was very happy with my time here. read more

Corporate offices of Public Storage raised our rate 40% in 4 months and after asking around will raise it continuously thereafter every quarter! Nobody tells you when you sign up that they will raise your rate up 40% or more. So why would you think as much. They wait for you to move in get everything settled and Hit you with this increase expecting you to pay it! Here is the kicker! I went online and at the same facility for a bigger unit they offered it for less than what I was paying. This Shady practice shows you they are willing to let renters go just so they can get people to pay the increase. And if they don't and you move out they do it to the next person. I will be reporting to Better Business Bureau as well as telling everyone I know never to rent from this terrible company. I called corporate office and they basically said there is nothing they can do because it's based on demand. even though I told them I see open units at the facility. It took me 10 minutes to find a storage facility closer to my home with better access hours and 25% less than what I am paying. Already confirmed with new place that they only do rate adjustments every 9 months and the maximum they have done was 9% during a high time. This is acceptable. I made a mistake in signing up with PUBLIC STORAGE but I hope this review helps others in not making the same mistake. I truly hope that public storage corporate reads this and gets their act together. I guess for now I will use my only consumer power and move!! The storage facility is a tad on the expensive side, but it's worth it. The site is clean and well guarded, but it's John's beyond top notch customer service and kind demeanor that make it worth it. Every time we have visited John has gone out of his way to greet us, make sure all our needs are taken care of, and goes above and beyond to help out. Unfair business practices -- be warned! So I had an 8x10 storage unit from Nov 2021 - April 2023. The price of the unit started at $194/mo. -- and during the short 17 months I had no less than three rent increases, to bring me up to $288/mo. -- an almost 50% rent increase in less than a year and a half! That seemed a bit much, so when you call about an unexpected increase the office sends a 'rent adjustment request' in to the PS corporate office which was never approved in all three increases. I was never an issue for Public Storage, had autopay set-up, and never late. I rarely ever went to the storage unit. But enough was enough on the increases so I ended up cancelling and put a courtesy call in to them to let them know and get their procedure for clearing out the unit. They told me it had to be empty by 4/30 but never mentioned the time. Now, as I mentioned I rarely go to the unit so don't really know how it works. They have posted office hours of 9:30 -5pm but assumed that's OFFICE hours and not GATE hours. I've never known a storage place that doesn't offer after hours gate access (A-1 Self Storage on Gothard, HB 714-421-4394 offers gate access 6am - 9pm). As is normally the case when you're trying to empty a unit, we had several trips to make on Sunday, 4/30. I sent to the office to talk with them the day of the move and understand procedures, and it was locked tight. The OPEN sign was up but no one there. I went back on each runf to/from unit (4 different times Sunday during office hours -- crickets. No one home. each.and.every.time. Final run to take last load had us there at approximately 5:30pm. Tried to access gate but to no avail. Locked tight. Confused, as it's 5:30PM....hours of day-light left even. That's when I realize when they say CLOSED they mean it. So, I noted office hours and realize they open up Monday, 5/1 @ 930am -- I planned to be there when they open and take 10 minutes to load up last of the boxes, as well as stop by office to let them know the situation from last night and/or settle up. I tried office at 9:30am, and surprisingly -- no one there again! I went by again as we left at 9:45 and still no one there. SO six times in two days I went by that office -- and not a single person to be found ANYWHERE (looked all over the property too in case they were out and about on premises -- ghost town). So finally I call around noon on Monday, 5/1 and got a hold of someone. They said I owe for the ENTIRE month of May to the tune of $260 bucks because I used my access code on May 1st. I called customer service TWICE and their response was "It's in the 1st paragraph of your contract that you owe entire month". No waivering, no understanding, no offering of a pro-rated amount. Now I'm not a demanding person, and I'm reasonable. Even though their gate hours are RIDICULOUS, I accepted the fact that rules are rules and so I was willing to accept some kind of pro-rated fee. What gets me is that they would only accept a penalty of the ENTIRE month of rent. Keep in mind this unit was EMPTY 10am on May 1st. They definitely will be renting it again in a day or two. The customer service agent kept pointing to the contract and my final answer was, "but is that FAIR?" If YOU were on this end of the line and had to pay an ENTIRE month due to poor communication and ridiculous gate hours, would YOU think it's FAIR? .....the agent pointed to the contract again. Terrible customer service!! UNFAIR business practices!! STAY away and go to A-1 Self Storage. I'd be willing to take this down if Public Storage is willing to be FAIR with me. read more

I came all the way out to Huntington Beach from Long Beach, a 25 minute drive ONE WAY! I get here & they can't rent the unit to me without me purchasing their special lock!!! I've used 3 different locations just these past 6-10 months & have used the same lock each time! The online reservation works well. As odd as it seems, you save 25% by not contacting a live person, as I tried that. Everything is done through text or email. They have an app that makes accessing the facility easy as it unlocks doors using a cell phone with Bluetooth. When I got to the jnit I broke a small plastic security lock. A real lock was waiting inside the unit as promised. The storage was clean. Two issues: the light did not work, and the back wall was a broken piece of drywall. I have been at this place for years, I hate it and I keep saying I'll move out. They were broken into and robbed. The entire hallway was broken into and their cheap locks were bent and opened. And they didn't bother to contact me. Oh they left me a message. It seems like they would make a better effort to make sure I knew that 1, we were broken into and 2, we are locked out of our unit. They just locked the outside door and didn't pick up their phone until business hours the next day. And then they gave the repair work to the lowest bidder. I have a unit rented at the McFadden Ave Huntington Beach, CA facility and needed another. July 3 rented another unit. July 4 things changed did not need the other unit. July 4 holiday. July 5 contacted PS returned the unit. Never moved in. Turned the unit back into your inventory July 5. Asked for a credit or put the rent to the storage unit I occupy. Went as far as the district manager. They would not accommodate. This could be solved at the right management level. I am moving out of my other unit and not doing anymore business with PS. If you want to know what this place is about, sort reviews from newest to oldest and it paints a bleak picture. I had 2 10'x20' units for 11 months with absurd 47% rent inflation in less than a year (you read that right - from $251 to $369!). Moved out of one of the units a day later than expected (it was actually vacant I just hadn't turned the unit over) and they charged a full month of rent - no pro-rate - hardly surprising given the rent gouge. I had two side-by-side 10x20 units, and the rent was different on each, when I vacated I asked for the less expensive rent for my remaining unit - flatly denied by district manager at corporate, so I expect this is a company-wide policy. Be warned, there are a number of units at this (McFadden & Springdale) location that people are living in. The management is aware of this, and allows it to continue. They hang out in the units with the door partly open all day. Absolutely the worst storage experience of my life. read more

Well, the saga continues. Just got notified that my rent is going back to $588 per month from the current $434, a 35% increase. Talked to the local agent who sent a rent reduction request to corporate, but it was turned down. So, now I have to pay $58 dollars more than the original increase back in March, after a reduction for just six months. Plus they have the same size unit available right now for $471 per month for new renters. Bottom line, if you only need short term storage, then Public Storage is fine, but if you need long term storage, you might want to look somewhere else, or be prepared for outrageous increases every year. read more

Clint was nice, however big misunderstanding, I made reservations for 2 10x30 units, both came back with 2nd month free, went over this with Clint, he said it was showing both units 2nd month free. when checking auto pay one unit showed up being charged for second month, when I contacted was told it was always only one unit that I had promo for and that was that too bad, even though I have copy of original reservation showing both units 2nd month free, the only reason I went this far from my house was for promo!! also after I moved in I found out there had been over 130 break- ins since July!!!! read more

Had my unit broken into. Was notified late afternoon that day after they replaced the lock and hardware. They don't notify the police, the manager said it was the person's responsibility to do this. Called the police to meet me down there. The police asked me why they didn't call? Told them they don't call. Officer told them he wanted to see the videos on file. They could put cameras on the inside of the walkway. They make enough money because they keep raising the rent. Moved out because of this and had some of my stuff stolen. Some people said it sounds like an inside job. Why wouldn't you call the police? They compromised any investigation by not calling the police because they put new locks and hardware on the damaged units. Police could not take any fingerprints. Be wary if you rent!!! read more
