Watch out for this in your contract. If you move out on any day during a month you owe for the whole month. If you move out on the 2nd of the month they don't prorate the balance. So they get to rent the room during the month you paid for. RIP OFF! Don't use Public Storage. Every few months they raise the rate on your contract. After one year the rent was raised more than 100%. I would think they would rather have long term occupancy than have units turn over all the time and have to charge cheaper rates. But they are greedy, they penalize you for being a long term customer. If you need long term storage look somewhere else with a stable rate. read more

I want to first give a shout-out to E Charleston Location. I had the worst moving Luck ever. Both times they went above and beyond for me. I drove in from Tucson, lost the dolly on the freeway, a movers crew walked off the job, told me they didn't sign up for this, and my favorite. Please do not rent from Public storage or this facility. There is good reason why Public storage has an 1.06 out of 5. I left the unit because a manager at a Las Vegas facility called me on a Sunday night and threatened my life over a $1 that I still needed to pay for my storage unit. She threatened me with jail, collection agency and charging me another $20. All things are illegally and very rude and unprofessional. I complained to the Regional Manager and he told me that he would deal with with more training. She is a manager and should have better common sense. read more

They hardly ever answer the phone. When ai moved my stuff out of storage they lied on me and sent an email saying i owe $500 for leaving firnature behind and that is cleaning fee. I left absolutely nothing behind. I moved my firnature out last week with 4 people. Came back today and only had boxes to grab. And now they want to charge me 500 cleaning fee for firnatire that is not in my little unit. Scandalous. Look for a different storage unit They also raised prices up a couple months after I was there. read more

Had unit for almost 5 years, wish I never used them! When I first moved in the rate was competitive, but every few months my rent was raised by a few dollars until it was ridiculous. I was under the impression the building was climate controlled, but when I moved out I had to throw many of my items away because they were melted. My biggest issue was a few months ago when I received a call from them saying my lock was missing from my unit. I immediately drove up there to find that someone had broken in to my unit, and also several of the other units near mine. Several of my tools and valuables were stolen. Employees working told me that because the security alarms aren't monitored someone is able to just enter the property and walk around cutting locks and take their time going through customers items. No type of apology was offered or explanation as to why the security is not monitored, and I even had to come out of pocket another $20 for one of their locks. My information was taken down and I was assured a manager would contact me, which they never did. I moved out last month after wasting way too much money there. I would say to only do business with this location if you aren't storing anything worth stealing and doesn't need to be climate controlled. read more

Jasmine signed me up for a room and I was pretty excited about the price and I'm happy that I finally found a clean room BUT it was very disappointing that AS she was ringing me up, all of a sudden she mentioned I had to pay for insurance. Great whatever, but then when she told me my total, there was a $24 start up fee, which I know is NORMAL- but hey. Mention that BEFORE we start making plans for me to drop a couple hundred bucks in your facility. Appreciative of finally finding a clean room in such a run down area though. read more

Well just do your research online from their lawsuits for the use of "penalty" late charges...raised rent after your there for several months. As soon as it happened to me I closed the account when the corporate agents used their script over the phone tactics to over charge a "penalty"instead of a simple late fee. Which 5% of a unit of 134$ is fair. Not 20% which is not labeled on the contract and if it was I would have never signed (which is why they don't label it) (UNETHICAL) so until it is clear on the contract that I agree to 5% only. I was not given the full contract until after I signed a small electronic pad in the office and it was on my account after login but not available until after I signed. No upfront information explaining this and when asked it was just a few dollars...so to me it felt good being that it's just a storage unit not leasing a car here. Look at the store in Illinois that closed down for one day for the cold temps which fell on the day at which fees would be assessed they were open the day prior it was cold out and then reopens the next day and it was still the same temperature outside and ALL cash customers were not allowed a next day grace period to pay the late fee causing a huge amount of fees for them to charge. UNETHICAL. Just for my further experiences when dealing with public storage agents Over the phone I would either be verbally pushed around met with "just deal with it attitude"so to me that just screams that a company doesn't care of their employees. They never once instructed me to email a dispute team at disputeresolution@publicstorage.com which I found after reading some fine print for 30minutes. Which you have to to at least try to resolve that way before taking up a lawsuit with them so this was all sent to that email for review. This review helps with clarity for everyone. No one was helpful at any point but when I set up my unit. When a email is sent through the only way they allow "their website form" with no ability to CC yourself or anyone else or keep track of them (which is another unethical tactics) (so I record by video and screenshots to hold my information. When speaking with agents I demanded a supervisor call back or email me for a phone appointment being that the agent said they are unavailable at that time...which it's been 48 hours and I sent 3 emails during that time to remedy the issue with no response. No call backs. No voicemails. No texts. I Immediately closed the account being I will never do business with company's like this and everyone needs to follow to not allow them to continue unethical practices. When you Look at your contract it will say they assessed the late charge on the 7th and will not give any reasoning behind how they came up with the assessment and one agent said he " just doesn't know" To me unknown assessments By my business standards this is unethical. Auto pay can help but if for any reason a lapse happens in a deposit it can cause more fees from the bank being which doesn't match that we are dealing with a storage unit that is supposed to be clear in pricing. They do not record calls as to not allow any evidence to be used during a lawsuit nor will they CC any emails back to you that was sent to them when asked. All Company's that are truly ethical will label ALL fees by a " clear number" that is expected to pay if that happens everyone has a right to know the fee amounts up front. Also when a demand is made to speak with a supervisor and that falls on deaf ears is a huge problem in any company. Along with simple agent training methods to allow clients the ability to solve a problem with them. The only reason it gets one star is I have to at least put one. However the manager at the Charleston location was nice in setting me up with an account so she deserved at least that and I'm sure hears all of this but is just trying to get by herself. They don't pay well from when I looked on indeed for more reviews about them. read more

We go to Burning Man every year and stored our gear here as we drive in and out to Reno. We returned one year and someone must have picked the lock to our container, methodically gone through and stolen anything new or of value, then locked it up again. We lost over $3000 worth of supplies. I have heard of professional thieves who do this but it's supposed to be a supervised locked facility with keys and gate codes - how did it happen?? I've been a customer here for about a year. As soon as possible I will be taking my business elsewhere. We have left about five voicemails and no one has returned our calls. We came to get our Christmas decorations and told them we lost our key and had been calling for weeks asking for assistance. We show up and the woman working is ABSOLUTELY unpleasant. Her man is Jasmine. I told her we have left several voicemails. She didn't even respond. She told us it would be 5-7 business days for someone to come and help us. I asked her why no one had returned our voice mails politely asking for assistance on getting into our unit. She literally ignored me. So I asked her again and she said "I couldn't tell you, I don't speak for other employees" so unbelievably impolite. I asked her if she would remind the manager that the employees aren't returning calls and she ignored me again. She let us stand there for 20 minutes thinking we were waiting on something from her while she was looking at our account on her computer. I asked her if she needed anything else from us and without even making eye contact or looking up from her computer she said "nope" Thanks for letting us stand here for 20 minutes. No "thank you that's all" nothing. I'm amazed at how poorly we have been treated. You have to try to be that inconsiderate. While she made us sit outside in the cold waiting on the locksmith she told us had to check in with her she literally locked us out of the office. I have never encountered anyone this rude, inconsiderate, and unhelpful in my entire life. I strongly recommend hiring someone who can at least make eye contact with your customers, and someone who doesn't wave their finger in your face while you ask why she's locking you out. When I first signed up excellent service from Monique the ONLY agent that shows she cares and goes above and beyond , I had called and told them I was going to be getting my things out of the storage I unfortunately lost my key as I understand its 100% my fault I called I spoke to an agent wasn't really helpful didn't give me any extra options so I called back 3 times no answer so I decided to drive up there again spoke to Monique she was very helpful in giving me other options at the end she said ok I can get the girl to come in today for a lower price the locksmith is offering you so I was glad to speak to her , I got a call at 6pm and was told I was ok to go I show up at 8 pm since I only had about 3 items and couldn't get in the storage I gave them a call this morning spoke with Jazmin asked to speak with Monique and she mentioned she wasn't in I explained the situation she was NOT helpful at all I asked when Monique will be in she said idk I mentioned she's your manager how do you not know when she will be in she said well I'm the release manager , I said more reason for you to know when she'll be back I asked for someone with higher authorization than her she gave me Nakeas number which is her manager I called that number 5 different times no answer and couldn't leave a voicemail, no way of getting to her at all my husband arrives at the storage at 5:30 our unit is locked he walked to the office no one is there drives around doesn't see Anyone who can help I called the office several times no answer , honestly will never ever come back here again and Monique is over qualified to be here I know she will move on to better things and this place will rott. read more

False sense of security here. We had an inside storage space. The locks on the outside were broken half the time. Finally our personal lock was cut and $7,000 of artwork and equipment was stolen. Staff not helpful nor sympathetic. Rent at your own risk. Make sure you have insurance. read more
