This place is relatively inexpensive, so if that's your only concern, go for it. But be aware, this place has the worst service of any storage facility I've used. First, the carts. Every other storage area I've used has carts readily available to move boxes in the lobby. Here? You have the carts, but be ready to walk around the outside of the (large) building, out of the fenced area (which can only be re-entered using the car access gate), and leave your ID at the office in exchange for a key. Then, you get to find which of the 9 carts it actually unlocks, noting that half the time the key is mislabeled. If you're lucky, the cart won't be in the back blocked by multiple locked carts in front of it. And if the office is closed, you're out of luck. I guess it's too complicated to take a quick look at the security footage, correlate it with the door access, and suspend the responsible person's account if someone actually wants to steal a $50 cart. Next, restrooms. This may sound a little silly, but sometimes it takes a little time to get your storage area organized, and bathrooms are actually pretty important. Even inside business hours, I've found both restrooms locked and out of service. (Door says vacant, but the handle has been locked from the outside.) Maybe someone just forgot to unlock them? Because, as with the carts, if the office is closed, no restrooms. The final straw and the reason I'm leaving this review was the lovely call I received after, evidently, *gasp* leaving the parking lot an entire 10 minutes after closing. (Not the building, mind you, the *parking lot*.) I've honestly never heard a business get so worked up about a complete non-issue, calling on the weekend (days after the "incident" actually occurred) and threatening to suspend access if this ever happens again. Oh, and there are no clocks on the wall, so better keep a close eye on your phone and hope it actually agrees with the facilities system. (I was absolutely out of the building before 9:00, and am quite sure I was out of the parking lot less than 10 minutes after that.) What a waste. I thought I had found a good solution for a long-term storage arrangement, but instead I'll have to wind down use of this facility and look elsewhere. I guess I should have taken the hint when it turned out to be a hassle just getting the facility to honor their advertised pricing on move-in. Quick update: After the earlier incident mentioned, I was explicitly told that the issue was leaving the parking area more than 10 minutes after closing. This is apparently false, and the policy is simply that one must be entirely out of the parking area (a.k.a "the facility") by precisely 9:00. I also inquired and was told that "strikes" for leaving the parking area even a minute late never expire, so after this happens twice, your access hours are completely at the mercy of Public Storage, forever. (The admittedly very polite employee I spoke with emphasized that the specifics are handled on a case by case basis, but that's beside the point.) This just confirms what I had already determined, that Public Storage is more worried about whatever precisely their concern is with a customer leaving their parking lot a minute late than they are with maintaining a long-term relationship. That's their prerogative, but this is not a company I'm interested in having anything to do with in the future. read more

Do not leave a review for this Public Storage or any Public Storage until you have moved out! Why? Because theft is rampant here at this site (and at Public Storage facilities in general...check online for related articles) and you will receive zero support from management when that happens. They will run away and hide. Customer service here is nonexistent. Do not leave your belongings at this site or any Public Storage! They are not capable of securing their sites and they do not care about you or your belongings. You are just a number to them. Even if you use the best lock, it doesn't matter. As the thieves can cut the bar that secures the unit. My unit was broken into on May 12, 2015. The bar was cut. I lost thousands of dollars worth of belongings. Most times when I come to retrieve things from my unit, an employee drives by in a cart and sees me there. In other words, they know that I am there. They have one camera that sees everyone that comes in the place. Extra Space storage claims that they get all the Public Storage customers that get burglarized. Theft is rampant at Public Storage! The manager at the Extra Space storage facility I spoke with says that my burglary sounds like an inside job! Store here at your own risk! if you do, photograph everything and purchase the highest level of insurance! Public Storage lists "100% customer satisfaction" as their goal on their website. Really?! How can they promise that? update 5/15/2015: I sent an email to the supervisor 2 days ago and have received no response regarding filing an insurance claim for my stolen items. I have received no response to my questions! There is zero customer service at Public Storage, zero customer satisfaction! This business should be closed down or at the very least, closely monitored by law enforcement! update 5/30/15: I have sent a total of 14 emails to the District Manager, Joan Bonagan, since May 12 when my unit was vandalized. She continues to remain in hiding and unresponsive to my questions. This is the kind of customer support you can expect if your unit is broken into...management disappears. To be clear: This site lacks qualified, trained management, and is incapable of providing the essential customer support in the event of a break in, which occurs continuously here, due to inadequate and trained staffing, and sufficient camera surveillance. Upon arriving at our new home in Phoenix, we were shocked to discover many items had been stolen from our storage. Initially, my wife thought she packed things and simply didn't see them during the loading and unloading process. A thorough inventory revealed the stolen items included our wedding gifts and photos, irreplaceable photos of deceased family and friends, original newspaper clippings my wife authored, prototype toys, decor for our home including many vintage items, dishes and other kitchen items, lamps, vintage Christmas decorations, along with many items purchased specifically for our new home. And, since there were no broken locks, we've concluded that Public Storage employees who have master keys to all the locks they sell on site, entered the locker and robbed us. To date, no one has gotten back to us with a response to our inquiry. If you choose Public Storage, refuse the locks they offer (they insisted, didn't realize we had a choice). Because management has the keys to their own locks meaning they have the keys to your locks. And if you can, install a Ring and watch your stuff. read more

I came here to pick up some boxes for my move. The lady there was nice and even walked the boxes to the car. However, I opened up my boxes and out popped a huge roach! I thought the other persons review only applied to the storage unit so I ignored it. Plus he wrote it back in 2010. Who knew that they wouldn't try to fix their problem. do not, i repeat, do not use public storage in newark off of overlake place. 6800 overlake place, newark, ca to be exact. i rented a 10 by 20 storage unit and i was moving my things out today into my new place and was greeted by cockroaches. cockroaches of all sizes. now i have to unload and check each and every box and item in my 10 by 20 storage unit. not only have i wasted money renting a moving truck but time spending the whole day checking all of my things. absolutely disgusted and disappointed. i will be back tomorrow to speak with upper management. i have taken pictures and videos of the whole incident. i wouldn't even give this place a star but in order for me to post my review i have to rate it with a star. read more

Have issues every time I visit this location with getting a pushcart. I finally did call into the office to let them know of the situation and spoke with property manager, Megan, at Newark CA (Overlake Dr location). Extremely dissatisfied with her uncaring, poor customer service and unprofessionalism in addressing my concern. I was mislead into renting a spot here on the basis that these items would be available as I am an injured with major back issues and cannot lift my heavy storage items. I advised Megan of the situation and she was unprofessional to the point of putting the blame back on her customers here at PS mentioning they 'steal' the pushcarts and furthermore stating it's not the properties fault they are not available. I did mention as a business owner myself it is ethically correct to have made these items available at all times whether or not your customers are 'stealing' them or not as some of us rent here for that very reason that these accommodations are made available. She did become hostile and lose her cool and was very adamant that this problem is 'our' fault and not Public Storages' and offered no solutions other than a loud sort of hang up of the phone if you will. Just plain disrespectful, entitled and rude. I will be moving out shortly as this was for a temporary remodel of my home and so glad to be doing so. This is not ok. Caution management has master keys to the locks they sell!!! The employees steal your property. The week after informing them we were vacating, items went missing from our storage. We only noticed when we got to our new location. Wrote to inform and they never responded. I don't care about the household goods that were stolen although that's in the thousands of dollars. They also stole my wedding album and marriage certificate as well as my first published news articles and photos of now deceased friends and family. Wedding gifts gone, baby items gone, antiques, etc. And to show how tacky and low class the thief employee is, they also stole my wig form where I store my hats! read more

As you walk in the office you will see several associates on their phone standing outside the building smoking cigarettes in the entrance. Stored my belongings in a 10x10 unit on Mar 31,2015. Returned May 1,2015 to pick up everything to move into my new apartment only to find numerous items gone. A mountain bike, 46" flat screen tv, a portable air conditioner, a roll away tool box with all my tools inside and a few more items. Guess that is why they MAKE you buy insurance. The lock had no signs of tampering and was a intact when I arrived to pick up items. Have no idea how they got on. Police officer told me there had been numerous break ins at this particular Public Storage recently. Maybe that is why they are called Public Storage...the whole public has access to your stuff. Gonna call the number to file a claim with the insurance company to get my $3000 worth of coverage. We will see how many teeth need to be pulled to get my $$$. read more

Beware our unit was broken into over the holiday. It appears there have been numerous robberies recently only at this location. Our lock wasn't cut so we are not sure how they were able to get into our unit. Trying to reach anyone to help us with this has been a total nightmare. read more

Nice enough staff. Easy access. Too bad about the mice and roaches (small and large). Not a pest control measure to be seen. You would expect to see exterior bait stations at a minimum. Yuck. 2 weeks here and I'm infested. I've used many other storage places (at least 6) and never had a problem (those were mostly Extra Space). Oh, there was one little bag of rodent poison in a corner of my unit, it had been there a while, and from the directions on it, there should have been 3-6 in my unit, so not anywhere near enough. read more
