Absolutely Unethical, Predatory, and Incompetent - Avoid at All Costs! I used the largest unit at Public Storage on Overlake Drive, Newark, for over 15 months while relocating to Canada, and my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Over this period, they increased my rent four times--and not gradually or reasonably. As soon as they realized I was out of town, the increases came every 3-4 months. This wasn't about market competitiveness; it was blatant opportunism. It felt like they were actively trying to exploit someone who couldn't be there to monitor the property. Communication? Nonexistent. Nobody answers the phone, ever. High chances nobody is even at the counter. I left multiple scathing voicemails for the manager, only to be told that the rent structure was "take it or leave it." No explanation, no negotiation, no professionalism. The incompetence and dishonesty continue with the lock. I never wanted the lock, but staff insisted it was compulsory. They explicitly stated that if I didn't use it, the lock fee would be refundable upon move-out, and the contract even confirms this. Fast forward to checkout: after multiple calls with zero response, someone finally picks up and outright denies any responsibility, claiming "if you were misinformed, that's not our problem." In short, this place is rude, predatory, and unapologetically unethical. They leverage people's hardships, steal money on their own terms, and treat customers like inconveniences rather than humans. I 100% do not recommend this place for outdoor storage. We just bought a brand new travel trailer 3 weeks ago. We chose this public storage because it's a brand new nice facility. Lots of cameras. Gated access. Seemed all great. Our trailer was broken into, we parked it on Monday, when we came back Friday a bunch of our stuff was missing and our door lock was broken. Which we didn't realize until after we had picked up the trailer. When we discovered it, it was after hours (they close super early at 6pm) so we camped and came back first thing Saturday morning. We filed a police report and parked our trailer in a different spot, one in the center of the lot rather than along the fence. Thinking this would help. We ordered a brand new higher security deadbolt which came in Saturday, but again, at 5:55pm so we couldn't access our trailer til Sunday. Sunday we went back, less than 24 hours after our initial report; and again our trailer had been broken into. Thank goodness there was nothing inside, we emptied it out 100%. Twice. In less than a week we were broken into. The office staff I encountered didn't even seem apologetic or shocked. We honestly would've been just as secure parking it on the street in the hood. We immediately made other plans for parking our RV elsewhere, somewhere safe. We cancelled our lease and left. The plus side; they did refund us this months rent. read more

This is a bad location for THEFT. After my unit was broken into, police said this is commonplace at this location and management and owners have done nothing to try and fix the problem. The video surveillance, if any, obviously is no good. Security is lacking and combine that with the measley metal material they use for the locking devices on the units and you open yourself up to get robbed blind. Find a different storage facility. read more

Wont let you move out mid month despite giving over 30 days notice. You have to pay for the whole month. They raised my rate 3 times in 1 year. They raised it over 75% from when i started. Terrible business. read more
