I would give 0 stars if I could. A pipe leaked in my unit, resulting in all of my stuff being covered in mold when I next came to check on it. The facility was aware of the leak and that surrounding units were effected, but I guess they were just going to ignore mine until I discovered it myself. The best they would offer me is the same price on a new unit, which I did not accept because I wouldn't trust my stuff with them anymore anyways. No offer to help with cleaning out my unit (which, I have to emphasize, was full of mold because of their pipe leaking). Insurance was laughable between the deductible and what they would actually compensate me for re: the loss. read more

This place has really gone downhill And the small changes they have been making are really bad. If you happen to leave to put stuff in in your car at 8:50 beware you will get locked out and charged $500 for "stealing" a cart luckily I took it with me to give it back the next day since things go missing if left outside(homeless problem) they recently started locking the Dollie's and no one will check them out to you unless you are there from 10am-11am and 1pm-5pm (if they are there) it's just all starting to become inconvenient. Trust me just rent somewhere else. Make it worse, they will raise the rent with out saying anything and if you say something they will lower it. Bad customer service. She's asking some unnecessary questions about the vehicle I want to store and she has the most sarcastic answers as if I know her and met her before. I moved out before 12/1, and there was nobody at the front desk during office hours to confirm the move out. Nobody followed up with me today. The girl at the front desk said she sent a vacated receipt, see the attached. This is NOT a vacated receipt. I left the unit before 12/1. And she said there's no way to provide documentation to confirm I have vacated. This is the worst establishment I've ever had to deal with. The front desk is incompetent and totally unhelpful. They are uninformed and do not do anything to help you. All they do is repeat themselves in a rude tone. "Like I said..." "We already sent the receipt". Does this LOOK like a receipt to you? Avoid this place if possible and find a better establishment to store your stuff. The elevator permit is expired and emergency exits are locked from the inside. Our experience was positive overall. They have carts available as long as they're not all in use, and the cleanliness overall surpassed my expectations. Ricardo & Jackie were amazing and so accommodating! We had to switch units due to our couch not being able to fit (the number one fear with paying for a unit before moving stuff into it) and they made that process really smooth - easy transfer of paperwork from unit to unit, etc. read more

Ricardo was our customer service representative who provided us excellent help when we couldn't locate online what we were looking for in storage. He was efficient and effective at answering all our questions and finding the exact storage unit we needed. Wish all companies had a "Ricardo" in their service department. Since Covid no one seems to offer any personalized and thoughtful in person customer service, but the storage at 511 S Fair Oaks in Pasadena was clean and cool and Ricardo made our decision very easy late on a Friday afternoon, where there was a time crunch for us (as well as plenty of other storage choices elsewhere). The people who work at this facility are great. They are very helpful and conscientious and deserve all good things. However, the Public Storage company has become incredibly greedy and inflexible. I just had to vacate one unit after they increased my monthly rate by $150! On another unit, they increased my rate by 38% and, six months later, increased it by another 35%. My current rate is 665% higher than when I first rented it 12 years ago. (Yes, 6.65 times higher). And that's after I had to ask for a DISCOUNT (they initially wanted to raise it to 8.27X the original rate!) Total inflation over that same period has been 150%, so Public Storage has been increasing their rates at more than 4X the rate of inflation! Beware of their "bait and switch". They'll lure you in with a reasonable rate, and once they know you're ensconced, they'll start hitting you with rate increases, because they KNOW how difficult it is for people to vacate a storage space. And don't bother reaching out to upper management. District Manager Mr. Borja hasn't responded to my emails protesting their latest rate increase, and he only called my home (and left a message) after I posted a negative review. (I called him right back, but he didn't pick up, and didn't return the call.) Maybe we need "rent control" for storage units. Should they really be allowed to increase their customers' rates by 4X the rate of inflation? read more

I recently rented a climate-controlled 7'x9' unit from this space. It is close to my apartment, which is probably the only merit. Here are the things that I don't like: (i) They don't honor1st month $1 move-in charge. (ii) When I came in to sign the lease, they tried extremely hard to sell me all the unnecessary bells and whistles. The on-site workers did not have any interest to help you. They are polite but very apathetic. (ii) The unit is advertised as 7'x9', but it's actual dimension is more close to 3'x7'. In addition, most of the units have no lights inside, and the corridor is not brightly illuminated at some spots. So, you'd better have a look of the actual unit before you rent. (iii) They require rental insurance now, but at $15/month, it is very expensive. If you use your own insurance, there are a long list of requirements to satisfy. (iv) For the month of July, there is an unexplained extra insurance charge $2.42. When I called them, the phone agent did not know what is it, but she insisted this is a one time insurance hype, and asked me just to pay it. read more

I have been trying to get someone to replace the lock system on my storage and I have not received a clear answer. I'm staying here till I get a response and I get a new lock system. Alright I'm done. Thankfully I'm moving across the country and I'll be vacating this place. My rent went up AGAIN this time from $191 to $245 and not even on the regular September schedule. Just out of the blue, happy new year. Totally ridiculous! Who in their right mind thinks that a 30% increase is ok?? Greedy corporate executives apparently. I moved in the summer of 2017 and was paying $143. This is nearly a 70% increase in just over four years. I think the increases are insane and totally unfair, but again they've got your stuff so what recourse do you have other than to move out. So glad I'm finally able to do that this month. These people have no consideration for their customers and do not follow their operating hours. Be aware you will probably NOT be able to access your unit or a cart when needed. It is 1:05 pm and I have to wait 25 minutes for the office staff to return because they've abandoned their post. If your office hours are 9:30am-6pm I expect as a paying customer to be able to access the office during those hours. Who leaves work and closes their office completely during operating hours! They are weak in the customer service department. It took them three years to replace a light bulb above our unit, making it necessary to bring a flashlight every time we visited the locker. Also as of late they are severely understaffed. Typically there is one person on duty who takes breaks at unpredictable times, so if you show up and need to use a cart, the office may be locked and you will be out of luck. read more

My unit was broken into. The staff lady couldn't care less. All she tried to do was move me into another unit which was the same dimensions but more expensive. I've filed a police report, and claim, but from how things are going so far, I am not hopeful they will do much. All she told me was to talk to insurance as if she didn't want anything to do with the incident. CAUTION: 1. The locks are super easy to yank out if anybody wanted to. They use skimpy wood with screws that are waaaay to short. Look at the photos. 2. Anyone has access to the main building units. They can just walk through the stairs without a passcode. 3. So far my experience with Public Storage has been excellen. I reserved a storage unit online without any mistakes because the process is quite simple. There are sample units with household furniture in a 3 bedroom house for example and it suggests a certain size unit where your storage items would fit. After choosing a unit and submitted my information I received confirmation with unit number and passcode. The move was yesterday and I arrived before the movers so I could have it all ready but my phone went dead along with passcode, etc. Thankfully a very nice and friendly young lady was at the reception checked ID, retrieved my info and charged my phone. After 6 months, they raised my rent for the unit, and when I inquired about it they told me that it can happen at any time automatically. The property manager told me the "system" automatically does it and there is nothing she could do, but she would have someone call me about it. Not surprisingly, no one followed up at all. So, I called again, and got a different mananger who told me it's due to the rising cost of doing business. I am sorry, but this is not someone I want to do business with. We've been renting a unit for years and yesterday we were burglarized. The door lock metal plate was unscrewed. Your property is not safe here. There are no cameras inside the building. Buyer beware. Even the police says that they often get called to this building for burglary . Your lock is not a guarantee your valuables are safe. We had two and these crooks figured it out. read more

I use this location for business storage - it is safe, as there are cameras everywhere and I am insured. If you're storing your stuff without insurance - you're just being stupid. I'm saying this because of some of the silly reviews I have read here. The homeless and /or transient people ARE PEOPLE who hit hard times. If they have the money to pay for storage - then they are entitled to use it and try to hold on to the last threads of their possessions. It's about human dignity. Get some compassion. I tried reaching out to the regional manager tony because of a mistake on the company's part. They will tell you on the phone whatever you want to hear to get you to make a reservation. 2 seconds after signing everything, it turns out the unit wasn't climate controlled like I was told on the phone and at the unit. I asked them to cancel everything and just refund me but they said they couldn't. They have to get the regional manager to do it(tony). I was polite, I didn't flip out. I called tony and left a nice message. It's been 5 days and still I didn't hear anything. I figured they would call there manager and have this taken care of but it seemed they didn't want to. It's really not worth my time to keep calling and complaining so I'm just going to ride out until the end of the month and cancel this unit and go else where. I'm very disappointed with this place. Only complaint was the surprise administrative fee ($22) and required insurance ($15) that gets tacked on the the $1 first month but these were not enough of a complaint to dissuade me from using Public Storage. The location was very busy, so I would recommend not coming on the last day of the month. My one complaint was the hidden insurance fee that is tacked onto the monthly fee. I was unaware that this was going to be a requirement to purchase. If I was informed before the day of paying, I would have been more accepting, but it seemed like it was just something else to tack onto the bill (along with a charge for a lock and one time application fee.) read more
