I rented a storage unit and was told by the employees that I needed to purchase a cylinder lock in order to use a storage unit. It didn't have to be their own $20 lock, just as long as I had a cylinder lock. I purchased my own for $9 and moved my things in. Today I got a call from them saying that they had thrown away my lock since it wasn't the correct fit, and that I needed to purchase their $20 lock in order to access my things; until then I'm locked out of my unit. No where in the contract paperwork does it even mention a lock as an item needed to access your unit. So far no one from the company is contacting me back. As you can tell from my axe grinding, I'd recommend avoiding this company. read more

I'll list both pros and cons, but the cons have far outweighed the pros for me. Most are just unforgivable for something of this price (well, at any price). Pros: - The 2nd (newer) building is in good shape and generally clean, *excluding* the unlocked areas (bathrooms/entryway). All unit doors move smoothly. Temperature/humidity seems to stay consistent. Elevators generally work. Parking is sufficient. Cons: - Carts are a must, but generally only available 25% of the time (whether peak times or not). Management says "We're not allowed to buy any more -- we've asked". Constant frustration for everyone. - The bathrooms are often in terrible shape. They're frequently out of order, or completely out of paper products (even the seat covers will be empty, as they have been used as toilet paper). This is true with or without the offices being open. They're just not maintained with any regularity. The ones that I've seen inside the "secure" area have never to my knowledge been unlocked for customer use. - As others have mentioned, there is a sizeable transient population using the facility (at least the bathrooms, but potentially living in units). I'm sure this contributes to the restroom situation, as the sinks are used as full body washing stations. - The older building's units are generally in worse shape. The one I started to receive had holes through the concrete wall (it was an end unit) and sharp screws protruding 2-3" into the unit itself from the equipment attached to the outside. I cancelled that rental and went elsewhere. - There is no lighting in the units themselves. The halls are well lit, but that doesn't extend into the units, so you generally need a flashlight regardless of time of day. I keep multiple battery lamps in each unit. - All in all, this is the worst facility that I've used in the area (out of 4). If it weren't stuck there due to the sheer amount of boxes I'd have to move, I'd be out in a heartbeat. read more

Please do not lease with Public Storage. I just went in yesterday to sign my lease and ended up leaving in anger & frustration. There are a ton of hidden fees & charges that make their "deals" nothing but a waste of money. I signed up for a space online, and did a ton of research to prevent hidden costs and extra fees. I'm on a fixed budget for the summer, and just need to store my things while out of town for 2.5 months. FIRST: I was promised a 7.5' x 10' unit, which was exactly what I needed given the size of my couch and bed. The 7.5x10 unit they showed me seemed small. Thankfully I brought my measuring tape, cause it was actually 6'4"x 9', which sounds like a rounding error but is a big difference when you're maximizing space. Way to be fucking dishonest. SECOND: you must buy a lock from them, you cannot bring your own. That's an additional $20. Then, you MUST get insurance, through them, for an extra $11-18 PER MONTH. There's a $22 administrative fee for starting the lease (the only charge listed online, all others are not revealed until you get there and fill out paperwork). Then, the cherry on top of it all, they don't prorate months. They do "prorate" in the sense that when you sign the lease, you pay for the first 30 days, and then should the next billing cycle fall in the middle of the month, you'll pay a prorated fee for the rest of that month. Then your lease starts again on the 1st of the next month. If you only need a part of another month, or should you come late (say September 1 instead of August 31) to move out of your unit, you must pay for the entire extra month. They WILL NOT prorate it. So I went in assuming I'd be spending $250 plus tax to store my stuff for 2.5 months, and realized I'd end up paying $385 for the same time frame, given the extra fees and the non-prorated month. I called around and found Nickerson Street Storage, and they were straightforward on the phone, have a smaller admin fee, you can bring in your own lock, and they don't require insurance. AND THEY PRORATE. Find someplace local. Don't go with this shitty chain. read more

Watch out for the hidden fees if you book on-line. I was quoted a 'Total Cost to Move In' and it was $30 more with all the extras they don't tell you about. I needed a 5x5 storage unit for my college student that was affordable. Turns out it wasn't a deal at all. People are nice so it must be a corporate thing??? read more

This is criminal. The advertised rate for the 1st month is $1. You are required to pay a $24 initiation fee, and you are required to buy insurance for $11-15. OK fine. $40 for the first month of storage isn't exactly $1 but it isn't bad. However, 2 days later my account incurred another charge for $19.20. When I spoke with the manager I was told that this was still a prorated charge and I was getting a discount. When I explained that I was being screwed here and that it was not what their deal was he tried to give me a customer service number which, has only 1 option to speak to a person, except that it sends you back to the SAME person, who "just works there" and has no idea how to help me. This place is needs to be reported to the better business bureau. read more

The storage was acceptable but they're sketchy on contracts. I signed up for a 6 month storage and upon signing the facility said that my last month would be prorated based on when I moved out. During my occupancy they changed their rule to "full-payment per month, no matter what" and didn't inform current leasers. So when I moved out on May 2nd, the building refused to uphold their original prorated deal. ... They should be required to notify you of cost changes to your unit and current contract. read more

He was very thorough and patient in helping me choose the correct size space for my needs and did a nice job with the paperwork. Public Storage on Fairview has been so easy to work with. The grounds are clean, units are protected and safe. Access is easy through the gate with your code. Lots of parking and moving in/out of storage easy with the carts available. Colin and his staff have been great from the get go. Absolutely wonderful and always willing to answer questions and help when needed. The location is also perfect. Easy to get in and out of. I would think this public storage is hard to beat. This is my first storage experience so I don't have a comparison of price, etc. but it seems clean, secure, and the people have been very friendly and professional to deal with. The $1 first month is a little deceiving since you are required to buy a lock ($17) and insurance ($8) and admin fees ($22). I figure $50 is overall a good deal for storage for a month. read more

They have reduced access hours to your unit to until 6pm on weekdays, and 5pm on weekends because of "security reasons". Apparently Public Storage doesn't have enough income to hire a security guard (if its THAT bad) with all of their saved money on wages from leaving early, and jacked up rents (~10% increase every other month). If you are like the rest of 99% of working Americans, and work 8am-5pm, then this facility is not for you. Your belongings will be held hostage while you pay them to restrict your access to a time when you must take off work (either using PTO or forfeiting your own wages) just to type a key code in to access your unit. Absolutely asinine, I honestly thought it was a typo when I read it. Oh, and it was a notice that I received on November 10th that took effect December 1st. Can't wait to cancel my lease.. If I can battle through the Mercer Mess during rush hour and try to make it there on time. read more

We needed a place to store a few pieces of furniture over the summer until my daughter moves into a new place with her new job. Went online and found very helpful information including a diagram showing an example of what would fit in each size unit. Reserved the size I needed and immediately received not only email confirmation but a phone call to schedule meeting/getting me into my unit. Colin was wonderful. The office had just opened and they were very busy organizing the day's appointments but his knowledge and organization kept everything moving smoothly. He assigned a temp pass code so my movers could get busy unloading, then took me to complete my paperwork. Access is easy, units are so clean, area is well lit and security is at a level sufficient to make you feel safe without being difficult to deal with. Cherry on top was a great promotional rate. I rented a storage unit at this location and Erin was a great help, going above and beyond to ensure I received good service. She answered any question I had and went overboard to help me (and I ask a lot of questions). She also helped me rent a parking space at the Bremerton location and handled it all, following up to make sure the transaction was completed correctly. Erin and Lizzy as well as the entire office staff helped me on the numerous occasions I came in and were always very pleasant. They notified me of all of the fees so that I left feeling like I had a total understanding of the costs. I would highly recommend this location, especially if you live in or near downtown Seattle. I was driving up from Oregon on a Sunday and was questioning whether or not i would make it in time before Public Storage closed. I spoke with Andrea who told me to call her every couple hours to check in and she would try to stay after they closed to let me in. Since my first experience, everything has improved here. Units are easy to access, security is good, and pricing is pretty straight forward. If you cancel your month-to-month before the 6th day of the month, they'll prorate your bill and refund the difference, which is nice. The offices and storage buildings are super clean and the staff is helpful. Not sure what happened with the phantom delivery that one time, but management assured me that it was a staff error and they've changed policy to ensure it won't happen again. The regional manager, Allison, was also very personable, helpful and quick to return calls and emails After all is said and done, I will likely use this location again next time I need to move for a short time assignment outside of Seattle. read more

I met with Lizzie, and she was absolutely wonderful! If I was only reviewing her, she would get 5 stars. She was patient, clearly explained everything I needed to sign, walked me through the whole facility, and was overall very pleasant. I was a little disappointed by the fact that I had to pay insurance and buy a lock, neither of which I was told about when making my reservation. I know it's not the fault of the location, but it's a pretty shitty business tactic, IMO. I had to use this location because it was a business account and this is closer to my work, but I probably won't use them for any personal business. read more

First, let me say that the staff is really great: knowledgeable, friendly, bend-over-backwards helpful. Lauren was a pleasure to work with -- and had a great sense of humor, too. Second, however, is that this facility seems to have problems with security. This was my second storage space rental at this location. I witnessed a number of people getting in and out of the facility by waiting for others to punch in their code. One guy was violent toward me when I would not let him in after my car. I and my mover also wondered about one of the renters who seemed to either live there or use the place to change clothes. Security is an issue and needs to be addressed one way or another. read more

This is an amazing location. Perfect access to I-5 but because of that same reason it is frustrating that their hours of operation are so limited. This is an industrial/ business area with few homes or apartment buildings nearby, and as such one would assume since noise complaints shouldn't really be an issue that their storage unit may be available past 9pm. The hours of operation are limited and generally speaking they are the same hours that many of their customers are working during the week. One might think then they they would provide extended hours of operation over the weekend but quite contrary, they have reduced hours of availability on Saturday and Sunday. Despite the difficult limited access due to the hours of operation, I chose this convenient location anyway for my temporary storage needs because of the proximity between my home, I-5, and my work. I will say though that their staff is great. Very friendly and efficient. I appreciated that Nicole stayed a little past the 6pm close time when I came to initially rent my unit, as I rushed to get there after work. She gave me a fast paced tour of the facility, quick instructions on how to use the gate, doors and my security code. She was specific and precise with the details in my paperwork but she even managed to work in a few upsale techniques She was friendly and never once made me feel like an imposition that she was staying late to accommodate me. She definitely deserves recognition as going above and beyond with her customer service, which seems to be lacking everywhere​ you go these days. She made me feel comfortable and satisfied with my rental regardless of the hassle of the limited hours of availability. read more

I used this facility for about 5 months, but moved out of town after 3 months. Since I was out of state I forgot to pay my January rent and was charged a lien fee of $54 for a unit that only costs $69 per month. I paid the rent and fee exactly one day after the fee was added to my account. I asked for a refund of this exorbitant amount considering that I came back to move out of the unit on Feb 8th, and was told I'd have to speak to the district manager. Kevin refused to make any concessions on this even after I'd paid for the full month of February but was completely out of the unit by Feb 8th. Seems to me they're definitely taking advantage of me in this situation considering there were no issues until this one month, right before I moved out and left them with an empty unit and 20 days to fill it. In addition to this after I was completely out and leaving the office they began questioning me about "if I'd left a mattress by the dumpster". I certainly didn't appreciate the accusation after already dealing with the payment issue. read more

Why do we have to give any rating for this horrid no access junk yard? In addition to their extreme false advertising to get you in there only to harass and jack up their prices on a near monthly basis, while offering literally zero access, they have arrogantz that walk around like some total harass monger, 'Dub' who has nothing better to do than assess your possessions and scream at you through the intercom and then after his brutal harassment, goes around saying you were late getting out of their extreme limited hours and ever changing access schedule. This 'Dub' arrogance, even has the audacity to threaten that they are going to limit 'your' hours even more, when how can they limit any more when they are already at zero, zero access? They repeatedly violate their own contract which is simply to give you access to their facility. If you would like to join me in a class action suit about their false advertising and then absolute zero access please contact here. They boast cameras, motion detectors, high security gate access and that if you are in there one second past their zero access times, the police will show up in seconds, but then they are constantly complaining that they need to restrict access even more for security purposes?? Dont get it and of course they are too cheap to hire a security guard, but they will 'gotcha' over and over again to get you to move in, only to harass you to death and offer nothing in return. Dont rent here and dont get harassed by Dub arrogant, who is looking for reasons to inspect your personal property and harass you in anyway he can. This company is not interested in you and would love to take your money and then make it so that you will never see your storage possessions again!! Please contact me for further details.
