The price of the unit started at $99/month and went up very quickly, and by 3 years, the price was $259/month. Be aware that they increase the price significantly over a short period after the initial contract is completed. The storage itself is good and clean. They are only open 6 am-9 pm. After keeping things here successfully for years, I've unfortunately had a VERY bad (and VERY costly) customer experience. Here is the story: My Mother had a unit here for over five years. She paid for it in full on December 1st, the day it renews. On December 2nd, we asked the Public Storage employee "Marck" if we could change the lease it to my name instead of my Mother's. Marck said no, but we could vacate the unit and then it could be opened in my name... he began the process, and I was concerned because though I had my own second unit (Unit #2) there at the time, I didn't want my Mother's unit to be charged for nearly a full month twice (once for my Mother on December 1st, and then again by me on December 2nd). Marck said not to worry, as my second month would be free, which would even things out - that was fine with me. A few days later, I stopped by again (to vacate my other unit) and asked Marck to please confirm that the unit would be free for the second month -- and he did. Well, you can imagine my dismay this week when I received an email from Public Storage, detailing my bill for the next month at full cost. I went to the facility, and while Marck was not there I spoke to "Nay" (the manager -- she has a beautiful smile) who explained that Marck was new and had been wrong in what he told me. This is despicable. Marck's mistake cost me hundreds of dollars. Marck is a very nice person, but he really steered me wrong. Nay explained that there is nothing that can be done, and reiterated that Marck was "new" and that he simply didn't know..... but I'm still out the money. I've been "new" at plenty of jobs in my life, and I know that there is a learning curve, but Marck gave me, a paying customer, some very wrong and very inaccurate information that cost me hundreds of dollars. Beyond just being extremely unprofessional in customer service, my experience speaks very poorly of the training of new employees at Public Storage. Marck should not working alone there when he was so new and should have been more informed before giving me information that turned out to be so inaccurate and so incorrect. This Public Storage facility needs to train their new employees better, and take ownership of the incorrect information disseminated by their employees. Marck told me wrong, and I'm stuck paying the price. Shameful. read more

The Saw Mill River Road facility in Yonkers floods from the Bronx River. The last flood on September 1, 2021 completely wiped out the first floor, destroying many of the items in our storage unit and our neighbors units. The staff was overwhelmed and unhelpful. As of February 2023 they are still rebuilding the first floor and it continues to be in disrepair. The bathrooms are dirty and not working, the parking lot is torn up, there are very few dollies available for the entire facility. As a result it is very difficult to get items to/from storage on the other floors. They have, however, raised the monthly rent by over 50% so we left. Strongly recommend not storing anything here. read more

Craig was more then helpful showing me yo my unit and making sure it was clean. I found it difficult to find my way around but Craig was already on it posting detour signs around to help streamline my visit. After many years of storing items at this location and dealing with flooding, roof leaks etc.... I was a good customer for them and always paid on time. Then the increases started to kick in first every 6 months then 3 months. You could never get anyone at customer service on the line - the district manager located in California was never reachable. All I wanted was a fair rental price given how many years I had been with them. The final insult was not being able to get a partial refund on my unit when moved out. Glad to see they really care about customers that were always good to them. Too bad they could not reciprocate. read more

Just don't risk it. Not a secure location, poor lighting, even for storage places. But if you do, go to the 2nd floors and up as the place flooded twice over the summer, destroying all of our things with little to no help from staff to clean up or recover anything. My only complaint would be regarding the online account setup; I had problems completing it, and from what the customer rep told me I was not the only one. Even then, though, the customer rep was way cool; he finished the setup, texted and emailed my docs, and made sure I still got the online price. Yea, I'd recommend Public Storage. read more

Long story short of it all is avoid this unit if you take value in your items and you want them to still be there when you go to your unit I'm currently pursuing legal action against this facility read more

Beware the Annual Rate increases of $30/mo or more! I chose Public Storage all the way out in Yonkers because the rate was much less than Manhattan Storage. Turns out that Public Storages rate increases are WAY more than Manhattan Storage. They are astronomical - this year, my increase is $31 a month. That's a much higher percentage increase than my rent. And it's like that every year. I'm planning to switch to another place - don't be fooled by their rates! read more

So far, so good. The rate was really good compared to whats available in the city. It's about $40 cheaper for a 5x10 room than what I saw at their locations in Queens and the Bronx. On the downside it is a bit of a haul to get to Yonkers. Service was good, but they were understaffed and it was a major annoyance. When we showed up the office was shut tight despite it being business hours, and there was no sign anywhere to explain why. After standing around like douches for 20 minutes, the guy turned up. Apparently the one worker they had stepped out to show a room to a client, and because he's alone, he has to shut everything down when he leaves. When he showed me my room, he made all of the people who were on line stand outside while we finished the tour. It's a very odd system. My advice to management; hire a second worker. read more

When i tell you this is the bottom of the barrel type of storage place....THIS IS THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. many things were not explained to me when i rented a unit with them. On top of the fact that i pay $140 a month for their smallest unit. They felt the need to give me the one with a pillar which takes about 1/4 or the unit. Customer service does the bare minimum. Any questions or concerns that you have is answered in a mediocre way. They never help or help come up with a solution. If you have other options PLEASE GO WITH IT!!. this is the worst choice of storage I could have picked. read more

Flooding on this property is constant. If you have personal items you want to keep safe and not damaged I do not recommend this property. Very poor plumbing system. My storage unit has gotten flooded twice within a month in a half, insurance claim is a hassle they want to know every single item with pictures, the brand, the original price, where it was purchased and proof of receipt. Strongly recommend looking at another property not this storage unit. read more

Not a great experience here. The location and parking is not bad. But make sure you reserve a unit and discounted price online before you set foot in the door! The online prices are much better. I got hosed by just going in. I even asked if the price they quoted me was the lowest possible and they lied and said yes. They should have told me to just pull out my phone to get a better deal. A And it turns out the in-store "deal" they gave me on a unit with less space due to a giant column taking up space was not discounted at all. It was the regular full price. So they lied to me twice. And you CAN turn down their insurance. They really try and pressure you into buying it , including lying and saying you HAVE you get it for the lease. But after resisting and threatening to go across the street to UHaul they admitted you can waive it. I would check out StoragePost or UHaul which are both next door. Not sure if they are any better but they can't be much worse. read more

I've been using this Public Storage facility since January 2011 and have seen 5, yes 5 rent increases since. The 2018 rent increase for me starts this April. I echo wholeheartedly the sentiments expressed by Cheryl J. Aside from the pricing, the facility could also use a fresh coat of paint. So why am I still renting with them, you ask? For starters, they have staff that are helpful every time I go to the service counter in person. This is their biggest asset, so kudos to Stephanie and Lidia. I have corresponded with the District Manager Ravinder once and he was helpful as well. read more

Obviously to get the attractive rates here compared to in Manhattan you have to accept the inconvenience of the location, but on the plus side, it's a well run, dry, clean facility, and the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Terrance was super helpful and professional. He went out of the way to find the best available unit for me. The high rating is for Terrance. The units do not look like the photos on the website. Paint is peeling everywhere, and the floors in the units were dirty/grungy. My unit has some very sticky epoxy like substance on the floor which I did not notice until I placed my stuff in there and my feet got stuck to the floor. I, too, was told the insurance was mandatory, but after seeing the condition of the place, it is better to have it. I'll be moving everything over to Westy's next month. read more

I have been rented a storage unit for 20+ years and loyally paying my rental fee each month.................................beware!!!!!!!! the longer you rent, the more you will get ripped off by them, not rewarded for being a perfect customer! Currently a 5 x 8 unit is $115/month, not including their 50% of promotional rate being offered. I have been renting a 5 x 8 unit and the rate has increased every year. currently i am paying $181/month, not payed on the 1st the price goes to $221 and I am threatened with calls that my unit will be auctioned. When calling and complaining, I was offered $36 off for 6 mos and, "I can't do anything about it, it's corporate...the big guys and I can't do anything else," So, if I rent a new 5 x 8 unit and move my items to a new unit, I will save over $1000 and having increases every year, I have spent $1000's more than a new customer vs a new loyal customer. And.....................don't expect any intelligent advice or reasoning. the "smart" employees just read the computer and say, "that's what it's telling me." You will lose money here and the longer you're here and the better customer you are, the more they will take advantage of you and charge you much more money than a new customer. A real scam organization!!!!!!! They make their money by charging the oldest, most loyal customers the most money!!!! Find an Honest Company!!!!!!! read more

We have had nothing but nightmares -The place has flooded and we had no recompense no one is picking up the telephone, the fax and email addresses are non-existent. We lost 75% of our possessions - stolen and water damaged and now we get an email saying it is happening again -- BUT nobody is responding to us. IS THERE ANYBODY THERE THAT CARES? I have been renting a 10x10 for about 4 months. At first the facility seemed to be running well but when I went there on 8/30 I started having second thoughts. First one of the elevators I tried to use didn't work. I was moving heavy items and after about a half hour I told the managers that it wasn't working and they told me they knew about it and hey were waiting for it to be fixed. But no out of order signs were posted anywhere on or near this elevator. Second, when I got in the elevator on the first floor and hit the wrong floor number the elevator took me to that floor. I was told when I got the unit there was a security system in place that wouldn't allow renters to go a floor they weren't renting in. Besides that once you get to your floor, there is no key code system to get back on the elevator and I ended up getting off on the wrong floor which shouldn't have never happened if their security system was working properly. Third this is supposed to be a climate controlled facility. When I first started renting there, the climate control system was working. On 8/30 after spending an hour in there I didn't even feel a single puff of air in the place, except for the reception area. Fourth, the place seemed to be run by a bunch of kids which I have not seen on previous visits so this could explain some of the problems I experienced that day. On a side note, I am not happy with the overall set-up of this facility. A cheap wire roof is all that prevents my stuff from getting stolen. The walls are not tall so it wouldn't be hard to break into a unit from the top. I was told it was for fire reasons being there is a sprinker system in it. But to not have a more solid roof structure has never sit well with me from day 1. I am going to get my stuff out of this place as soon as I can. read more

I have had nothing but frustrating problems with the customer service and polices at this location. The storage facility is fine, it's clean, convenient and indoors, but the service has been deplorable. I reserved online at one price and when I showed up to purchase and move in it was a smaller space and a higher rate. It took almost an hour to work this out. On my first 3 bills/invoices they charged me more than the rate in my lease and it took multiple phone calls each billing cycle to get this resolved. Then after 6 months of renting (and always paying on time) my rate went up by $20. They claim it's in the lease that they can raise the rate whenever they want to as long as they notify. I was not notified. It's obviously a huge inconvenience and expense to move out which is I'm sure how they get away with all of this but I will hopefully move out soon and never again use this company. read more
