I come here now and then, always super friendly staff and attentive to the customers, great local spot, from lunch to dinner to late night drinks. Always clean. Wings are great, ribs fall off the bone. Today I had the beet salad with hangar steak. It was delicious. Burger is really good too. Definitely a go to spot when I'm in the area. read more

Recently went here for a birthday party along with a large group of people. The staff was extremely accommodating. As soon as we arrived they had everything ready for u, the drink menu was very large with all different types of craft beers as well. Dinner was phenomenal, chef Nicholas Greiss even came out and greeted our table. Everyone loved the wings, chicken thighs, and the short ribs will knock your socks off!! Wanted to be able to give a 4 or 5 star rating; but the negatives tipped the scale in the opposite direction. The place is very nice, cozy, beautifully decorated; food was ok the Bibb salad was $13. Most $13 salads are big enough to split. Not this one; and if you think you can just order the salad for dinner, guess again. The Champaign vinaigrette dressing seemed like it was missing campaign vinegar. The kobacha squash soup was cold & sent back to be heated. It was good once salted, but hardly worth the hefty $8 cup size. The entrees were a little bland, but were better when salted. Everything, including the drinks are about 30% higher in price than what you'd expect for average-tasting dishes and smaller than average portion sizes. With the number of people working there you would also expect superb service, didn't get that either. We had to stop several servers to ask for salt & pepper, to ask for the soup to be reheated, to ask for another drink. Like I said at the beginning; Really wanted to give another 1-2 stars; in actuality, think I was a little too generous with the 3 stars. read more

We have been here three times. First time was great. We loved the mussels in green sauce and our food was great. Second time was so-so. Third time was even more so-so. The bar tender had wiped the bar down with a dirty rag and it stank. Our food was not that great. My girlfriends "seafood" tacos were very greasy and they fell apart when we picked them up. I went to Dillons for an early dinner with my son. It was fabulous. The bar and dinner scene really pickec up as we were dining that I realized we were lucky to get there early. The whole family went back for dinner and everyone had a good time. I have to go back for drinks at the bar without the kids. We had the steak and salad, fish and chips, burger and ribs. Great vibe in this pub even in the summertime. It was my 3rd visit and I was pleased once again. Had dinner and drinks with a friend and was pleased both by my entree, which was the Bibb Salad with Shrimp, goat cheese and apple slivers and my cocktail choice of a spicy mojito and the lemonade. Just went to Publick house last night for the umpteenth time. New chef (boo hoo) and entirely new menu. DO NOT get the crispy tuna appetizer - was cold and there was nothing "crispy" about it! Wings were dry and over fried. Pork belly was good, burger good but the cavatelli side was nothing special at all! Was just there over a week ago and everything was fantastic. So, our conclusion is that the new chef is not very good. We will go back though. Love the atmosphere, the beer choices, and waiters and service are great! Fabulous food, great beer selection, and fun drink list. We go to Publick House at least twice a month. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but that just gives us an excuse to sample of their menu beers on tap at the bar while we wait for a table. Would strongly recommend. read more

Great place! Got the wings and the beignets for starters. With rigatoni and the burger for dinner! Delicious! Staff is kind and particular with set up, making sure everything is neat and orderly. One of my top places around. You know, you pay for what you get. So does a restaurant. They get better food. Where? from better suppliers. Suppliers who charge more but give you superior quality. So, yes, the prices are above average. The service is above average. The food is above average. The beer selection is above average....Okay you get it now. My choices : The Crispy Calamari Salad, Tuna Pizza (to clarify, this isnt fried) and the BLTA A for avocado. Note - (I usualy am eating lunch), and a great beer. read more

Been several times - date night, with the toddlers in tow, with my parents and takeout - the food is always good and its definitely what I would call a reliable neighborhood spot/good casual spot. For so many BYOBs I also love that it has a full bar as it adds something for me to the atmosphere. It isn't the largest menu but the entrees are great - the fish especially is always well cooked and seasoned. The appetizers are delicious - the sushi pizza and chicken wings. It can get crowded and with that a tad noisy and the servers aren't always on their game but this is a casual pub not fine dining and I'm fine with all that. Its refreshing to see a local spot do so well....I wish a few more like it would open in town. read more

We were out and decided to grab some dinner. Great reviews on Yelp so decided to give it a try. Good selection of beer on tap. First thing I noticed on the menu was the prices. Yelp shows it was $$ it should have been $$$. There really wasn't much that interest us that we were will to spend $30+ on a Wednesday night. So we both ordered the burger at $16 the cheapest item on menu. It was ok nothing to rave about. The French fries were shoestring fries and over cooked. I've stopped here twice over the past few months and both times have been very pleased with the food. Their menu seems to change seasonally, which is great unless you specifically go back for something you had there the last time you visited. (Like the delicious short rib they had at one point!) They have a good spread of food options and the drinks ordered from the bar were made very well. My friends and I always walk out of there pleasantly full and happy. The only thing I would improve on is the wait staff attentiveness towards the end of the meal. It seems they get it right at the beginning, but then they're nowhere to be found to request the check. read more

We were regulars here but as of late the staff has turned over and the service has been terrible. Very disappointed since it's so convenient but every time we say let's go back we continue to wish we went someplace else. Prices seem to keep going up but nothing has changed for the better. Food is usually good but even this last time my lettuce on the Bibb salad was wilted and the portion was much smaller than usual. Ordered steak and had to wait to get someone's attention for a steak knife. Finally when we wanted to pay the check it took almost 10 minutes for server to return with my credit card. The new staff is young and inexperienced, it's really too bad because so many of the old staff were excellent and it made us want to come back to see them and enjoy a night out. read more

A visit to Publick House is a weekend staple for my wife and me. It's great to have a local pub, with an at-home attitude and staff to match. The owner, Bernie is gracious and friendly and will always do the right thing in the very rare times there might be an issue. Wonderful selection of beers on tap, full top shelf bar and wine list. The menu allows you to have a great burger, salad, ribs, or a full course meal on a continually refreshed menu...all with high quality ingredients, perfectly prepared. Publick House is a cool little pub in Mountainside, New Jersey. My wife and I sat at the bar, which was very relaxed. It was early evening and there were two screens with subtitles playing sports commentary. A man nearby was at the bar, reading a newspaper. There was a family eating supper at the high tables. There is a fireplace in the distant corner of the pub. The lighting is dim. We had appetizers. The buffalo wings were very meaty. My wife had the crab cake. She didn't complain about it. We split an order of hummus, which was OK. No nachos. The beer menu was not so impressive, and by this I mean that there did not appear to be one. However, they did have several beers on tap. While we were there, the best I saw was Arrogant Bastard. They also had Chimay, a couple Brooklyn offerings, and a few summer ales. In terms of big beers, they had Hoegarden, Smithwicks, and Stella. I did not see any BMC on tap, for which I may return. Our server was attentive and friendly without being invasive. I'd go again, especially in winter to take advantage of that fireplace. read more

Been there a few times, but not sure if I will be back. Went for lunch with a few work friends and the food was good, not great. I can't believe how different it is from day to night! At night, you are lucky to get a table, which is understandable because the place is beautiful and genuinely reminds me of an NY lounge. I love the vibe at night and the service is excellent for the area. The food, however, is hit or miss. I recently had the spicy tuna (which is out of this world) and the branzino (not terrible, but far from worth the price). My husband was in the mood for pub-style food. He got wings and a burger. The wings were awesome, but the burger came well-done and not medium rare as he ordered it. It wasn't a huge deal (after he had a few beers). The one thing I find odd about this place is that regardless of the time of day that I've been there, the GM or owner or whoever he is, is always just a little too tipsy/fake nice and is constantly gloating about something. He can be really irritating, which is a shame because the place isn't far off from being a knockout. 2.5 stars read more

After taking clients here for relaxed dinners about half a dozen times, I took my spouse here because I thought it was a nice place with good food. We sat by the fireplace and ordered drinks and a couple of appys. With the first bite, we noticed our wings were cold and undercooked. We pointed this out to our server. He promptly took them back to the kitchen and later returned with our wings. What they did was to refry the same wings with the buffalo sauce already on the wings. The result was burnt buffalo sauce on the wings that smelled absolutely inedible. We pointed this out to our server and he said "they're fine..." And I quote. Being not big complainers we finished our drinks and left. Instead of fixing their first mistake they choose to make a second more horrible mistake. And the third mistake was to say "they're fine". So much for raving to my spouse about how nice a place this was. And so much for taking my clients here for a relaxed meal. Both the sever and kitchen staff had opportunities to make it right and both failed miserably. From now on, if I need to entertain customers, I'll stick to Mosaico on 22 where I've never had a bad experience. That or the tons of restaurants nearby in Westfield. Great stop !Food was awesome....ribs, tuna, duck, salmon ! Everything was great .. The menu was not overbearing in the way of tons of choices like many places. One negative was our food took a little long to come out which the waitress addressed without hesitation. She offered and comp'd desert which was nice. Honestly we didn't mind the wait (wasn't too long anyway) for our food but that was super cool of them. The place was busy and the kitchen was a bit backed up.....not a big deal at all.
