My family has been going to Publick House for many years and we always have a fantastic experience. Last night we had another wonderful meal. Our server, Fred, was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent as always. The menu is a mix of mainstays and seasonal offerings, which is awesome because we know we will order our favorites but also like to try their new and seasonal dishes. Last night we had our perennial favorites - the burger, the tuna crisps, and the bibb salad (with extra goat cheese) - and some seasonal dishes - scallops with brussels and delicata squash, amazing ribeye steak frites - and everything was delicious. We also celebrated a birthday, and the restaurant kept our cake in the back and then presented it with candles for singing, then took it back, plated it for us, and served a piece to each of us. I had to meet a friend to discuss business and he suggested this place. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. They had indoor and outdoor seating available with the doors open. The place was cute with a fireplace and all. We sat at the bar and was served by Amanda. She was so nice and attentive. I ordered a cocktail she suggested and it waa ok, just a little tarty. What a great find. I was in town for business and luckily found this place on Yelp. It was so good I came back again later that week. I sat at the bar both times. Oliver was the bartender. He made me the best Old fashioned I've ever had. He and I chatted about bourbon. He knows a lot about his craft. The food was delicious. The menu changes almost daily. I had the KC steak. It was perfectly prepared. The second time, I had sea scallops. These were amazing. This is a neat little place. Cozy and inviting. Decor:I really liked the barriers they put between the tables, it made us feel like we were eating with people again opposed to the tables being 6 feet apart. The decor was very moody and I liked it. Ordered curbside pickup here during quarantine and it was great service! Saw their sign outside that they were open til 9 so I gave them a call and ordered their burger. The Burger was really good. The bun was so good it lasted a 20 min car ride home and was still warm and NOT soggy!! Very impressed. The only thing I could say is that I ordered it medium well and it was closer to medium rare. Other than that very good with some house aioli and it was served with fries with were very salty but very good! Looked like plenty of parking with a lot in back and spots in the front. I really would love to come back when it's all open because it looks like an amazing vibe! Looked like their front wall opened to be right one the street and I just loved the atmosphere!! This place upped their game and it shows! Original mixed drinks are unique and delicious, beer selection is great, and the food is outstanding. My wife and I are vegetarian/pescatarian, so the main courses were a little limiting for us, but we found tons of amazing options in the first course menu. Our last visit: we split the Burrata with Garlic Scapes, Ricotta Cheese Deviled Eggs, Tuna Crisp, and Bread & Butter. Plating is also beautifully done (my picture doesn't do it justice.) Absolutely incredible! Didn't know what to expect when we arrived. Vincent who helped get us settled was great and took our drink order. Best Side Car I've had in a long time. Every appetizer, entree, and dessert was on point! The executive chef, Nick does a fabulous job with creative plates and presentations! To round up the evening we had the most delicious Espresso Martinis! The place is chill, with a great fireplace. It does have enclosed indoor seating in the back. Honestly, I could have snacked on the apps and dessert all night. Especially the tuna crisp app and the warm chocolate dessert! Delicious! Look forward to going back. Looks like they change up the menu ofter to keep it interesting and blend with the seasons. Oh, and I forgot to mention its Farm To Table. We ordered a strawberry negroni (yum), the Mexican corn on a cob (charred to perfection), shrimp in coconut milk sauce (stole the show -- this had amazing flavors with green onion, and the shrimp was cooked just right), and the burger. We enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. The outdoor dining setup is really adorable. And the heat lamps help. It was 65 but still a little chilly so it made us stay and have another drink. The martini was excellent. And I can say that because it's close to impossible to get a martini right. Such simple ingredients and so hard to get it right. Deviled eggs as an appetizer and swordfish were amazing. Flaky fish. Not rubbery or dry. And the grilled cheese off the kids menu looks gourmet. We will be back again for sure. read more

Made a last minute reservation here for dinner, and overall it was a very mid experience. My father and aunt both got the duck breast, both of which came over cooked and sliced differently which was an odd decision on the chef's part. My sister and I split three appetizers. The first was a crispy rice with tuna and spicy mayo; it was not very spicy and the rice was crispy but slightly gloopy on the inside which was an odd mouthfeel. The second was a scallop ceviche with sweet potato purée and jalapeño, which was actually pretty good. The third we're stewed chickpeas with merguez and pita, but the pita was more of a grilled flatbread and was misleadingly labeled. The chickpeas were cooked well and went well with the sausage. Overall, this restaurant wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. read more

I finally got the chance to check this spot out... I always saw it because I eat at the sushi spot across the street . Parking is street or in the back We came for an early dinner - 5-6pm Sunday evening From the outside it looks very dark but when you are inside there is great lighting and has a very comfortable ambiance. Place is not that big- but appears well kept. Has a fire place, a bar and table seating. Our server - I believe her name was Lisa - was very friendly , helpful and attentive . I had drinks, appetizer and dessert this visit Tried the Fig Mule which was pretty good . Could have been slightly stronger but it wasn't a big deal. We shared the shrimp and grits and the braised octopus appetizer which was both very tasty. Tried one of the port wines which was also very good. Shared the Tiramisu and the Salted Caramel Apple Cheesecake and both were very good. Place got very busy by the time we left . I will definitely be back to try more things off the menu. read more

We got takeout from the Publick House twice and it was very disappointing and way too expensive! Unfortunately, the steak was tough, the salmon was raw inside/bland , the tomato soup was supposed to have grilled cheese croutons, which would have been great, but they put them in the soup, so they were a soggy mess. The hamburger was dry, the chicken wings were also dry and the tuna on crispy rice looked and tasted odd. We went back to give it a second chance, but sadly for $170, we had to throw most of it out! The restaurant is very cute, the salad was good, but the takeout side needs some serious tweaking! Also, please always put the croutons on the side for takeout orders! I do think this is an issue with how they prepare takeout, because it seems "eating in" provides a very different experience! read more

Walked in on a busy Saturday evening with my wife. The place was bustling but we were able to grab two seats at the bar after waiting about 10 minutes. Sara was tending bar and she greeted us right away. We shared a steak, arugula salad, a side of onion rings, and had a couple of drinks. One of the best meals we've had in a while on datenight and Sara's service was top notch. My wife and I go to Roots often and we found the food and service better here. Publick House is a Mountainside staple. It's part of the community and a damn good gastropub. Lots of drink choices and a super comfy ambiance for your staple watering hole. I particularly like the spot in winter. It's warm cozy and you can always get some food and drink that will warm you up. The food is good with regular bar fare and some upscale choices. read more

Love this place!!! The food is AMAZING and the menu is forever changing. The specials are always great and different. It's such a cute spot with a nice fireplace and cozy feel to it. The staff is very friendly and super attentive. I've been here a few times and always feel so welcomed. You can tell there are a lot of regulars that come here, must mean something. I definitely recommend. They have more recently been doing a set menu with some type of pairing with it. I went to the steak and wine dinner it was $175 p/p most pricey dinner they have had and it was worth every penny! I think they do these types of dinners once a month or so, if you're into a different experience with great food I would look into buying a ticket when the next event happens. There was a small, live jazz band playing and it was wonderful and went along with the "theme." The other one I attended was an Italian themed night, that was also great the food was AMAZING!!!! And I think The Godfather or goodfellas was streaming in the TVs. All around this place offers something you CANNOT find anywhere else. And I truly believe that. wow. what a fantastic dinner we had with friends on a cold december night. thanks to chef nick derosa, and his creative dishes using local cheeses, meats, produce, etc. food was off the charts delish....osso buco amazing....the burrata with honeynut squash to die for...the quail lollipops and the special veal chop.....all so good....and that fresh brussels sprouts salad with pickled pears! where am i? mountainside? also, service was top notch thx to the front of the house staff (evan). putting publick house back in the rotation.......food/service was great. they are doing an amazing job during covid.....tables are comfy and spaced apart....and even on a freezing cold night, the outdoor pation was pretty cozy. loved it. xo read more

Poor experiences last few times. Fine for drinks to meet people locally and to swing by. Otherwise food is modestly unremarkable at best. Service is inconsistent and spotty (constant attempts to up-sell and/or bait-and-switch happy hour items to regular prices is getting tiresome - so check your bill). Place seems to have drifted downhill quality-wise... menu/dishes is a bit too try-hard that it comes off as a pretentious wannabe gastropub without the associated quality.
