This is the go to place to take my adult daughter for a brunch with her mom. The food is all made in store. The onion rings are the best! All hand breaded and made there. There is no warmed up food service food found anywhere in this store. Paul, the owner, is almost always there. He either runs register (almost always) or he's cooking with his chef or he's washing dishes. In his spare time, which he makes feel ample, he is in the dining room waiting tables and greeting guests. This is a diner, not a coney. The sandwiches are excellent. The dinner entrees are served in dinner and lunch sizes (mostly) and breakfast there is really good! My go to is the Corned Beef Hash, which I order without the green peppers. Since we usually do brunch, it is usually enough for two, so I have leftovers the next day. I love this place. The chips are amazing. The soup is made in their kitchen. The decor is old and screams mom and pop shop--because the food makes up for the 60s diner decor. Seriously, this is my favorite place. If I had one wish, they don't do any delivery services. We have been going to Pudges Place for more than 39 years. Tonight we were very disappointed on our date night to try their Chinese dinner. I know that the businesses in the area are struggling due to construction, but our dinner did not even try to make us want a return visit. My meal said nothing on the menu about "egg" and each small shrimp with a strip of bacon was grilled with egg. Just not what I expected, especially for $25. My husband ordered the General Tsao chicken, spicy, and it had a very strong taste of "Franks" hot sauce. A weird addition to Chinese food. I will say that the egg drop soup was very good, but neither of us were happy with our $50 meal. $60 including tip. Sadly, I sensed the end of our meals at Pudges. It wasn't just the food, we also sensed unpleasant waves of a very musty, urine like smell. Sorry, Pudges, I hope things improve. read more

We've been going here for years. The food is incredible. Omelettes are huge. All the deli sandwiches are big enough that you'll end up taking half of it home as a leftover. I went a while back for lunch with a couple of coworkers during the week. The inside was clean and cozy, which made a good first impression on me. They had a huge selection on the menu, so there's probably something on there that would appeal to everyone. My lunch: - Chicken noodle soup was really good and tasted homemade - they used chicken breast meat, fresh vegetables, and wavy egg noodles - Hawaiian chicken: chicken breast, mandarin oranges, pineapple, and red pepper in a triple sec cream sauce over rice. The sauce was quite sweet, rich, and heavy - it was overwhelming after a couple of bites, to be honest. It would've been better just over the chicken and fruit/veggies with seasoned rice pilaf to the side of it. I couldn't finish the rice since it was drenched in that heavy sauce. Service was good, although when waitress was taking our order, I didn't see that the salad dressing choices were on the menu and she left, saying she'll be back (i.e. not much patience because I would have taken just a few seconds to decide). All in all, I would be open to coming back to trying other things on the menu - just not the Hawaiian chicken. read more

We wanted to try a new deli so we came across this place and decided to give it a shot. The menu has an interesting combination of traditional deli sandwiches, as well as a variety of Asian fare, but we stuck with the more traditional deli choices. My daughter and I both went for rolled sandwiches - I had the West Coast Roller and she had the Sir Richards Roll-Up and they were both very good. We found Pudge's on a whim, and it was a great decision!! The options are plenty, and they even offer Chinese food options on Saturday after 3:00! Today we tried a mix off things, wanton soup, chicken noodle soup, onion rings, an omelette, and grilled chicken wrap (with lavash bread) with homemade chips- be sure to dip them in the ranch. I don't have pictures the soup or omelette, my hubby devoured them! Everything was amazing and 100% homemade, possibly even the ranch. The onion rings are HUGE, and everything was so flavorful. My sister, a friend & I were looking for somewhere to have brunch before an afternoon movie, so I came to my trusty Yelp page to look for restaurants in the Troy area. I found Pudge's Place and vaguely recalled that I'd been there once many, many years ago. I looked at the menu online and it seemed to have everything anyone could want, so we went there. The first thing that hit us was the warm, inviting aroma of pancakes. Obviously homemade (as opposed to a mix). I decided I HAD to have them, so I ordered the Pudge's hearty morning special, knowing full well that I would take at least half home. It came with eggs, meat, hash browns (well, not actually hash browns -- more like chopped fried potatoes) AND toast AND pancakes. I chose bacon, which turned out to be 3.5 strips of perfectly cooked, crispy bacon, and I didn't even have to ask for it that way! I got pumpernickel toast, which is a rare choice for a restaurant. And the pancakes were not little silver dollars. Rather, they were two huge pancakes, perfectly cooked and a little crispy on the edges. The only disappointment was that my scrambled eggs were still kind of loose, even though I'd asked for them to be well done. I didn't send them back, though, because I knew I was going to take them home, where I would reheat them anyhow. My sister got egg & potato duo, fully intending to eat the whole thing. But, because of the generous portion, she, too, took half of her meal home. Our friend got the 1/2 turkey sandwich and chips. The half sandwich looked like an almost full sandwich, and she, too, took some home. On top of the generous portions, the prices were extremely reasonable -- especially for these days when prices are rapidly rising. And the service was also really good. I don't live or work near Pudge's, but I often like to take little drives, so I will definitely keep Pudge's in mind for those times. read more

Wow! Glad we stopped for breakfast! I had hand surgery and was heading home and hungry because you can't eat past midnight the day before so we pulled into Pudge's Place. It's not real big but nice and cozy. I really wanted some pancakes and it was more like Noon and you could get breakfast here so we went in. I saw they had hand dipped onion rings so I ordered a half order as an appetizer so I could try them, they were very good! The rings are indeed hand dipped, the onion was 1/2" thick, so noy too wide like some places-just right! The batter is very tasty and the thickness was perfect - not too thin and with enough on it to make them some of the best I have ever had! That brings us to our breakfasts. My wife had eggs Benedict, very nicely done with a delicious Hollandaise sauce. I had Pudge's Hearty Morning Special with 2 eggs over medium, potatoes, BACON and a side of 2 "fluffy" pancakes. The potatoes were "homestyle" thick sliced, not grated, my favorite style. The bacon was delicious and cooked just right, not limp, just chewy enough and not burned. The eggs went well with the thick sliced pumpernickle brown toast which was very good, bakery quality. The pancakes were some of the best I have ever had - no lie! I know I was hungry but man, this was indeed one of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time, we will be back to Pudge's Place, hopefully soon! read more

I came in with my family (whom are all Black) and we sat down right away no problem. Mind you I was super excited to come here and drove about a hour just to come (I use to live closer). Took someone about 10 minutes to take our order (which was fine because my family was still looking over the menu), but once our order was made, we waited. We seen others come in after us and get their food first. At first I figured "maybe they put their order in before us" and did not think much of it. My family members said some other people got their order as too. I have been coming here for a while so I have spoken to Paul the owner many time. I go over to him and let him know we have been seated for 30 minutes and did not get our food yet, he kind of brushes it off with a "We only have one kitchen". Very rude response. I walked back to my table and then a table that sat down 35 minutes after us got their food. So my family gets up. I walk backed to Paul and he laughed and says "what you want me to do, give you a refund or you wanna wait? We waited almost an hour to get our food that was never put in. read more

We were looking for a Sunday brunch place that was open and had sandwiches. We decided to come here based on some Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint. We arrived just before noon, and while they were busy, it wasn't too crazy. We were seated just as quickly as we walked in. There are an impressive number of options on the menu- maybe a few too many for an indecisive person such as myself.... Everything here happens so quickly- we were seated, we ordered, and shortly after our food was out. The service is great. Everyone is so friendly and so helpful. The decor is a little dated, but I would hope that you're coming here for the food and not the decor... I got the Big Beaver Board. That sandwich comes either hot or cold. I got it hot, and I have no regrets. The sandwich came with half of a very large dill pickle, and a nice pile of house-made chips. I was so hungry that I thought I was going to be able to eat it all, but alas I could not. The sandwiches are quite large, but you are getting your money's worth. Wow I am sad I haven't known about this place before. It is in hidden spot off rochester road so not obvious when you drive by. But once you make it in everyone is so friendly and I believe it is the owner greats you and introduces himself. He clearly knew everyone in there. The menu is as expansion which made it hard to choose. But once I saw the long lake supreme at the food counter i could resist. Although hard to eat because it is so large it is totally worth the mess. The homemade bread and coleslaw with hide corn beef and pastrami was heaven. Visiting Troy for some family, Yelp called to me to try out Pudge's Place. They should name it Randi's place because I'll definitely be back! Pudge's Place is a small diner/restaurant with a nice homey atmosphere. As soon as we walked in, we were seated right away! We asked what's popular here and our kind server told us that their corned beef is to DIE FOR. I ordered the triple stack sandwich with turkey and corned beef (#9). Imagine this. A freshly toasted loaf of bread, a thick layer of juicy roasted turkey, tomatoes, lettuce, another slice of bread, a dense layer of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and ANOTHER layer of bread. Like a Big Mac, but 14000x times better! I ordered the Russian dressing on the side and if you've never had it before, it tastes like a combination of relish, mayonnaise, and vinegar! The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the home-made potato chips were super crunchy! My girlfriend had the grilled cheese and onion rings and wow those were super good too! The onion rings had a tempura-like batter and I was so sad when they were all gone. My only complaint about Pudge's was the salt level of the food. I left with my mouth feeling super salty and dry, but that's to be expected with smoked meats and corned beef! When I'm back in Troy, there's a 100% chance I'll come back here. Until next time Pudge! This was highly recommended to us by some people we know which is why we went there for dinner one night. Even though I read the yelp reviews about the good sandwiches I was in the mood for a breakfast which they serve all day. I ordered an egg white omelette with broccoli Cauliflower and zucchini topped with provolone cheese. It came with what they call hashbrowns which was really large chunks of potatoes cooked very tasty!! It also came with toast of your choice and I chose the Ryebread which had about 1 1/2 inch thick slices!! Again very tasty. My sister ordered number seven and I'm not sure what it was but the sandwich was huge and I believe it had corn beef and pastrami with coleslaw and chips on the side which she barely made it through one half of the sandwich. She said it was very delicious in fact she liked it so much that she got a carry out for her husband. read more

Walked passed this restaurant on way to get some things engraved in a shop next-door but decided to walk in and give it a try. Pleasant surprise! It was lunchtime but I ordered breakfast which apparently you can do any time here.I ordered one of the breakfast specials and it was really great. If I had to sum up the food in a word, it would be "thick". But I mean that in a good way. The rye toast which appeared to be homemade and was sliced extremely wide, more than double the size I would expect for toast. The sausage was about twice the diameter as I'm used to seeing, and the potatoes that came with the breakfast special were unique and extremely tasty those were large as well and appeared to be homemade with real potatoes. I had not been to Pudge's Place in Troy for years and decided to check it out. I ordered their Pudge's Hearthy Morning Special for $8.95. My eggs and sausage were a little over done and their hash browns had a hint of garlic that I did not care for. The best parts of my breakfast were their two delicious pan cakes, the pumpernickel toast and my waitress Carrie who one of the best and most accommodating servers I have ever had. I love this place and never had an issue until today. I ordered to go a veggie delight and onion rings. I do understand that the oil/batter may be used with fish and chicken but for us vegetarians who can't have fish or other meat products our food should be fried/ prepped with separately with new gloves where our food isn't contaminated. So for anyone that has an allergy or can't have fish like me be aware the food is cooked in either same batter or oil or even both. Definitely won't be going back after being sick now. read more
