I visited Pueblo Solis for the second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first time! This is a Mexican restaurant located in south city. The service was excellent the whole night. As soon as I got there I was served with their complementary chips and salsa. I ordered the potato quesadilla with steak and it was so yummy and flavorful. This is definitely one of the better quesadillas in St. Louis. I ended my night with a coconut flan which was light and tasty. Love the patio when the weather is right. The best margaritas in town that hit the spot after a long day! The Queso Fundido or guacamole are great starters with the chips and salsa trio. I find that a lot of the Mexican restaurants I have tried in south Hampton area have food that ends up a little bland because of lack of spice. That is not the case here at all! I was also very impressed at how balanced and smooth the frozen margaritas are - it was more like an icee! The salsas given with the chips were delightful as well, I loved that three different salsas are on the plate. Have been here many times before but met an out of town friend here on Labor Day for dinner and the place was packed. Thankfully I got a table just a hair before the rush because they filled up fast and were busy until 7:30p. We sat outside on the patio. The chips are nice and the 3 salsas are all tasty but my fave is the Smokey one. Both the green and the red are good, but the green has the most heat. We also had the guacamole which was allot for 2 ppl. I fad the fish tacos which were tasty but I prefer the fish on the crunchy side and my order was very soft. My companion has the chicken flautas which he said were good. We both had the house margaritas which were tangy and packed a punch. Great dinner tonight. I love the food here. Such flavors! When you arrive you have your choice of eating in the bar area or dining room. They also have nice patio seating for warmer weather. Starts off with their chips and salsa. Their chips are brought to you warm and salty with a variety of three salsas. It was hard to choose my favorite and I was happy to have the variety. I ordered the Chili Relleno with rice and beans. You get your choice with it stuffed with seasoned beef or cheese. The waitress suggested that I get it with the beef and have cheese on top. Best of both worlds and it was delicious. The ground beef was very flavorful. The rice and beans were really good as well. When my plate came to the table it was sizzling hot. Nothing better than a nice hot meal. The service was excellent tonight. The lady that brought the chips and salsa was so attentive. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I think I've been going here for 20 years or more and it's always great. They give you a platter of free chips and 3 kinds of salsas to start. The brown salsa is the best one. Even if you do not dine in, and place a to-go order, they will still give you all the chips and salsas for free, without you needing to ask for them. They have the best margaritas I've found in STL. The enchiladas suissas, chicken enchiladas with verde sauce, are my favorite thing here... though the crispy beef tacos are also excellent. I love that they give you the option of getting double rice instead of beans with your meal because their rice is the best I've ever had at any Mexican restaurant--very savory and a bit tomatoey. The staff are always friendly and the service is fast. I do enjoy the dimly lit dining room for the "mood lighting". When weather is nice they also have patio/outdoor dining options. read more

This a cutie Tex melt restaurant that has great service. I was in town for a few days and I was craving Mexican. This play has great reviews so I stopped in. Street parking is more desirable. There is a small parking lot. If you can get in do so. I ordered the chili relay. No it was very delicious. They give you the option of ground beef or cheese, but go for the ground beef. My daughter and I have been taking a tour of Mexican restaurants lately and between this, Mission Taco, Rosalita's, and La Catrina, this one, sadly, is at the bottom of the list. The service was terrific, our waitress was attentive and genuine without being cloying. The food was uneven. The complimentary chips came out hot and were good and it's nice to get a selection of three different salsas. The tamales were great and the flautas were good. My rice and beans were very disappointing and flavorless! The chile rellanos were just meh. Also, both our plates seemed to have sat under a salamander for too long, parts of our meals were scorched. My family and I's favorite Mexican food in STL, we have been coming here for 20 years! Amazing service, lots of long term (10+ years) employees and the owner is so nice. Really good people! The food is delicious, authentic, fresh, and a great value (coming from someone raised on Mexican food). It has a super cute patio. There are lots of popular Mexican restaurants in STL, but the few I've been to are sub-par. Pueblo is long standing for a reason and solid all around! Highly recommend. read more

I was told that the food would be ready for pickup in 25 minutes; and, when I got to the restaurant 30 minutes after the order, I still waited another 25 minutes. I was pushed to the side and ignored. When I would ask if there was an update, I was given no information. When the food was finally brought out, it was placed on a table across from the bar. I asked the hostess if I could take it and was told that she would be right with me. She was not, and the waiting continued. This needs to improve and was a 3/5 star customer service experience. The food itself was good. The Guacamole was fresh, flavorful, and by far the best part of the meal! This was easily 5 stars. The Chicken Tacos were good and had a unique flavor. They were a little cold when I actually got to eat them, which confirms my suspicion that they sat in the kitchen for a while before finally being brought out to me. The refried beans were flavorful, and the Mexican rice had an interesting and unique texture and flavor. Unfortunately, the lid was not closed properly on my beans and rice container, and the beans poured out onto the Chicken Tacos container (see photo) and into the bag as I was commuting. Ultimately, the food was solid. I hope that they can fix the other issues if I ever make it back. read more

I'll admit this place is pretty unassuming, especially on a street with a few Mexican restaurants, but it is NOT to be slept on. It has an extremely authentic feel and once you taste the food, you'll feel that tenfold! I had a classic marg along with the shrimp tacos and both were absolutely delicious. We were also given maybe the largest plate of chips and salsa I've ever seen and you have a variety of salsas to choose from! Our service was also really great with our waitress checking on us frequently, our food came out super quick, and our drinks were always full. Food was just ok. Service about the same. They give you 3 different salsas with your chips which is nice, but they aren't great. I got a steak burrito. Meat wasn't too well done but it was not well seasoned. My margarita tasted like a watered down slushie from a gas station. Not sure if there was any tequila in it at all. For $12 a pop, they were quite underwhelming. Food is also relatively over priced. My total was a little over $53 for two entrees and one margarita, not including tip. read more

The best part of this place is the patio. The conversation with our table neighbors was a nice addition. The house Margarita was good. I definitely felt a buzz. The rest of the experience goes downhill. The location and the patio gave me high expectations. The chips and salsa was interesting. There are 3 different salsas. There was a roasted medium spice tomato salsa, a Verde salsa, and a non roasted salsa with medium heat. I enjoyed the roasted salsa. The chips were ok. Not too salty but the closer the chips were to the salsa they were soggy. I usually always get shrimp fajitas. So today was no difference. The hot plate had very little veggies, and they were cut too thick for fajitas. The shrimp was over cooked but big. Typically there are an even number of shrimp to share between 2 people. There were 7 shrimp. We ordered extra tortillas and only used 3. Plus they charged extra for lettuce and other extras that are usually including with fajitas. It was an underwhelming and disappointing dinner. I will not be coming back. read more

Tex Mex style food. We were greeted warmly, and Sat night there was a 20 min wait. (FYI not a single patron waiting in the tiny space for a table or in the super *loud, obnoxious* crowded bar area was wearing a mask except us. ) We were served fresh chips and three delicious salsa samples: a fresh tomato, a verde, and a chipotle. Each one was unique, bright and flavorful. We ordered a side of guacamole, which was nicely flavored, but served ice cold? Unfortunately, they were out of tamales, even though it was only 630 in the evening after opening at 5! It was the reason we were visiting after hearing how good they were. My daughter and I ordered combo platters which were chicken and beef tostada and flauta, as well as beef gordita. Most of it was good, my favorite part being the excellent refried beans and fluffy savory rice. The chicken was also tasty. My gordita was tiny, limp, greasy and was not good. The beef ended up being ground beef instead of shredded beef, which was disappointing. I should have asked. The toppings on each plate were pretty, but overwhelming: every part smothered in lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, which I don't care for. It was hard to just pick it off because it was melted into the surface of each item. Each plate also came with a small side of guacamole. The tostadas were served cut in half, so odd. Not a hint of jalepenos/chili heat in anything...lol. The sangria I ordered tasted good, but from a mix per the server. Our service was great! We came to Pueblo Solis to enjoy some safe patio dining with our kids. They have a lot of outdoor tables which is a plus for us. Our waitress was friendly and so nice to our 3 year old who can be loud in the restaurant. We ordered a Paloma, queso fundido, enchiladas, and tacos for my husband to share with our daughter. The Paloma was a little light tasting for me but still refreshing. I usually like a more prominent grapefruit flavor. The queso fundido was very good we were just expecting dipping cheese but it's real cheese you need to scoop onto chips or tortillas. The enchiladas Swissa were very good I ate the whole plate. We stopped in here last night. We were just around the area so went in. The restaurant is very dated and has a weird setup. The bar is very small sitting right when you walk in. We were seated right away and the place was busy. Our waiter was prompt and nice. We ordered drinks which were really good. Many margarita options to choose from. Chips were fine but the salsa (three types) is served in very tiny condiment takeout containers. You can barely get a chip in to dip it. The salsas were okay but nothing great. We ordered guacamole. It was expensive! Over $10. They give you a good portion but it needed salt and acid. The food was just odd. Cheese enchiladas that were drowned in cheese and the flavor was not consistent with any type of Americanized Mexican food that I have ever had. It was a fail for me and I am sorry to say but the wait staff should not have nails that are three inches long. I am not kidding you in saying that they were the longest artificial nails that I have ever seen. It was just unappetizing since there are so many things we do with our hands that are gross. Happy Cuatro de Mayo! Not everyone gets to celebrate cinco, some of us have to work. Actually, I've been celebrating Cuatro for several years now to beat the crowds. I think this year, others have taken my lead. Pueblo Solis was packed. Tonight I was dining solo and I always find it amazing how single diners are treated differently then "couples" or "groups". I'll address this issue later, but first let me praise their food. The chips here are some of the best in the area. They are light, crispy and just the right amount of salt. Most places only offer uno salsa, but here you get tres. I like the variety, but not a fan of them being served in plastic cups. I understand it makes life easier for the dish washer, but it takes away from the presentation. I just hope that do recycle. I bounced back and forth between their regular margaritas and the top shelf. I recommend that you pay the extra $'s for top shelf it is worth the bang. When ordering Queso Fundido, be warned it is not your typical queso. It is not made for dipping chips, it is very hearty and is meant to be spooned on to tortilla. To much work for me. Spoon, fill and roll. I would just rather dip and eat. It was good & different, but give my thinner queso that I can dip in both my salsa and cheese dip. I wanted to experience as much as possible so I created my own Large Combo Plate. I choose tres items and they were served with Rice and Beans. My tres choices were; beef hard taco, beef tamale and beef enchilada. Let's highlight each item: Beef Hard Taco - Bottom did not get greasy and soft like other places. Shell held its crunch holding flavorful beef, lettuce and cheese. Tamale - Hot Damn! A Tex-Mex place in Saint Louis who knows how to make a tamale. I'll be back just for Tamales. Enchilada - Beef is seasoned well and the sauce and cheese were the perfect complement. Sides - Rice was "the" best rice I have had in a Mexican restaurant. It was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. So many places over cook their rice, but not here. Here at Pueblo Solis, they over cook the beans. The beans were mush, you'd thought they were pureed to make baby food. Flavor was good, but the texture was not. Service "was off the wall" BAD "off the wall". The bartender was the server for the entire patio. A patio of 12 tables with a variety of sizes. His service was taking order and that was it. He had bus and one assistant who did everything else. To get a second Margarita I had to go tell him at the bar. Then had to flag him down to get my third and final. The other thing that freaked me out was that he was wearing blue medical gloves. I can understand wearing them to cut limes and lemons at the bar, but take them off when you come to wait on my table. When settling my tab, I asked if they were understaffed that night, trying to give him an out. He replied , "No". When I asked if he always waits the patio, he explained that his boss understands he needs money and lets him wait on tables too. Hey boss, this man can not multi task. Either have him wait tables or bartender. He can't do both. He cost you a star. The assistant was doing a better job. I'll be back, but no matter how nice it is outside - I'll be inside and will make sure he is not a waiter full time. He's an okay guy - just not a server. I felt for his helpers and still tipped 20%. I feel bad that I rewarded bad service. read more
