I've gone to this place a handful of times. Each time just hoping for it to get better. Food is bland, chips are stale, and nothing is home made. Update: My partner and I now go to this location every Friday. The service is much improved, though it can be spotty. The staff is friendly and we have come to enjoy it there. They have a selection of vegetarian options and some wonderful chicken dishes that we enjoy. So much cheese sauce! This place is in the middle of nowhere, in a complex into which one can barely make a left-hand turn. That aside, it was clean and nice-looking upon entry. The service was slower than normal, but not bad. The food was good. I ordered the steak & mushrooms and my partner ordered the chicken fajitas. I would have to visit a second time to conclude definitively that this is the best Mexican place I've found in the Columbus suburbs, but I'm getting there. read more

The Pataskala, Ohio Puerto Vallarta is our favorite, The waiters are friendly, efficient and nice. The complimentary chips and salsa are good especially with some added hot sauce. The Burrito Jalisco is currently my favorite meal. The Fajita Taco Salad comes in a close second. There are TVs everywhere. The decor is fun and colorful. The music playing is typical Mexican. I like it. Occasionally, I will understand a few words. When you go, it is off the highway in a business complex. When you pass the bank there is a short turn lane. I called this restaurant from Grove city to do a carry out for several reasons number one I don't want to sit in a restaurant number two I'm on my way home from a 14 hour day and I certainly don't want to sit in a restaurant and wait on Food number three to find out exactly how much food is à la cart or part of a meal so I asked all the pertinent questions and once I got to the restaurant I had to wait and the charge was another $10 higher than was quoted over the phone. Now during these uncertain economic times I know that restaurants are suffering and so as a single man that has bad hours I rely on restaurants for many of my meals. This is the second time I've been disappointed by this restaurant now to be clear when I've visited the restaurant in the past (ate in) they really did a good job and the food was fresh and good. Perhaps they're not conditioned to do carry out or it's a learning curve but like I tell my children this is a new paradigm and either better get on board and figure stuff out or you're going to suffer. I'm very big about supporting my local businesses I will wait and drive from Atlanta Georgia to patronize and visit in Pataskala because I feel that strong about it but if your business continues to fail to make a customer happy perhaps you need to take a good hard look at what's going on. In conclusion the food was awesome and I was happy it was awesome because I like this restaurant and I like the people and I don't want to not buy from this restaurant. So my advice to the restaurant is simple listen to the customer and I know the customers are a pain in the ass just like I am but listen to your customer if they're calling you that means they are making an effort for whatever reason and if it's important to you you should listen to detail. I don't know what the statistics are for restaurants that go under but I'm pretty damn sure is pretty high especially now but it was hard during the peak in our economy. I've been here plenty of times before but last night the orders came out fast, super fresh and correct.. I love their fajitas and while I usually take some to go, last night was the perfect size to make 3 fajitas and have plenty left over! This was one of the worst mexican restaurants I have ever visited. The food was incredibly bland and tasteless. The waitress we had must have been serving half the restaurant including about 3 large parties, the water tasted like it came out of a scummy pond, the margarita was awful (they also had no bartender on a Friday night), the booths were ripped and the floor badly needed vacuumed. I cannot figure out how this place has any good reviews. It's awful! Save yourself the time and just drive to Pickerington and go to La Fagota. It's sad because there are hardly any restaurants in Pataskala and this one has to be terrible. read more

We enjoyed ourselves. We ordered a large sampler to share a few items and really liked all the items on it. The appetizer queso fundido was just okay, i expected it to be baked but it was just the cheese dip with chorizo mixed in. The kids pizza was HORRIBLE. The only reason I ordered it was b/c the description was beans, meat and cheese on a pizza crust. It ended up being a frozen deep dish pizza with reda suce and cheesewith the toppings added to that. My family and I gather here for almost every birthday. We receive excellent service and the variety of food and drinks is outstanding. The times that I've ordered a standard chicken or beef taco plate, I've been disappointed, but when I've ordered outside of the box (something like the Pollo con Crema or Burrito Tapatio) I've been super impressed!! When the chips are warm, they are to die for. If you're a margarita fan, give theirs a try (or just buy a whole pitcher for the table...it will go quickly, I promise!). Much better service this time, really wanted a coffee drink, maybe an Irish coffee, and these folks were willing to put on a pot for me. The chips were good and warm, cheese dip pretty popular with the kiddos, though messy. Mixed drinks not bad at $5, everyone was happy with their dinners. We have eaten at Puerto Vallarta in Heath and Newark. One of them has great food and bad service and the other is the opposite. This location in Pataskala, has great food and service! We love the Vallarta Fajitas, the Chile Relleno was amazing and my husband really enjoyed the chicken chimichangas. We always enjoy the salsa and chips from this chain or at least in the three locations we have been to. I also had a margarita the last time we were there and it was really good. Boring Mexican. I am biased because I lived in Austin for a couple years, but this is typical boring mexican, and it doesn't stand out in Columbus. I've been here 10 or 20 times because it's close to my house. The flavor just isn't there. Just not seasoned well. This place is close to where I live but I like La fogata better and it's worth the trip. I don't like Puerto Vallarta because they got my food wrong,they got my drink wrong,and they have bad service. It is in a weird spot and no sign outside. There are no other stores by Puerto Vallarta and it's not that decorated outside side so you can't now what it's called. read more

Visited with the family this summer and sat outside on the back patio on a Friday night. It was crowded when we arrived around 6 but we lucked out and were seated immediately. The crowd was mixed with a lot of families. I was not impressed with the lime margarita, which basically tasted like lime soda and tequila to me. The regular marg my sister had was better. I ordered a tequila and lime with club soda for my second drink and it was better than both the margaritas. Thankfully the service and food were much better than the drinks. Our waiter was fast and brought us free chips and salsa right away, which was nice. We ordered a side of the queso dip which was a hit. (Just tasted like melted mozzarella cheese to me but whatever, it was still good.) My favorite thing was my meal which was Cameron's Diablo (basically grilled shrimp in hot sauce with sides of rice and refried beans.) It was served with a side of shredded romaine, tomato, and guacamole. There was probably about 15 medium sized, good shrimp, which was a lot for $12. Sauce was spicy. Also was served with 5 flour tortillas, which I didn't use. Overall good deal and I would come back if in the area. read more

Best mexican food in town (I've tried them all). Alway polite and fast. The margaritas are good, but would love to see fresher ingredients in the margaritas (However, I'll give them that 99% of mexican restaurants use mixes) Food is always good. Out of the dozens of times we've eaten at this location or the Newark location over the last 15 years, I've only had 1 mistake with an order and they not only brought me the correct food, they insisted it come off the bill. We used to go every friday night and the waiter didn't even need to ask our drink order, he just brought us our usual. First time back in 7 months but the food seems to have declined (I got the $hit$) and service was horrendous as my party of 2 were the only ones in the restaurant while the mexican waiter was no where to be found after we got our food. My husband and I are pretty much in love with this place, as well as the staff. We eat here about 2-3 times/month. I ALWAYS get the Fajita Quesadilla. It's amazing. My husband usually gets the Flautas, but he's also gotten Maria's Special a few times and said that it was good too. The real reason we come here is because their margaritas are amazing, their service is super speedy, and the staff members are friendly. We always bring friends and family here whenever they visit and they've all had nothing but good things to say about the place. The restrooms are spotless so it always makes me feel confident that the kitchen is the same way. The only piece of advice I have is that if you are ordering a margarita on the rocks, order a glass of water too because you'll want to steal the ice from it. The margaritas are kept just above room temperature so when they add ice, it always melts right away (the dining room is a little warm in the summer). If they kept those suckers on ice, it would be the best margarita I've ever had, but until then, Tlaquepaque in Zanesville holds that title. I wish they had happy hour. I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant NOT having happy hour, but what do I know? :) read more
