Puesto from San Diego now also in Concord? I stopped questioning why because now that I live in the East Bay, I'm delighted. You see, I've been to the locations in Downtown and La Jolla, and I absolutely fricken loved it. So much so, I've given both reviewed locations 5.0 stars. Can this location in The Veranda match? First: I love the design ================== Like the other locations I've been to, artsy and colorful mixed industrial with all of exposed pipes and ceiling. The open kitchen is smaller compared to others, but you can witness all the magic happening starting with the house-made corn tortillas -- the assembly begins. A very nice patio, long and large, is really nice. But the main feature has got to be the uber cool bar upon entry, with bottles overhanging on large bookshelves that can come down electrically upon the press of a button to restock the bartender station. Second: Tacos, Tacos, Tacos ======================= Sure, they've added burritos and plates since my prior visits to prior locations, but it's still mostly tacos. But HOLY HELL, the price is nearly double at $9 and $10 per taco! What?!?! Tacos featured are: chicken, carnitas, filet mignon, short rib, baja (battered) fish, tamarind shrimp, mushroom, veggie, and quesabirria. In the past, they've also had lobster, lamb barbacoa, ahi tuna, grilled fish, and Zucchini & Cactus Veg. They also feature a special of the month. Third: My Order ============= Served on a freshly made corn tortilla, just one not two, perfect texture and thickness didn't bust open at all.  The secret to each, a little fried cheese crisp and a slice of avo and salsa. 1.  Chips and salsa -- used to be complimentary, now $3. Chips were meh, salsa was amazing. 2.  Guacamole: perfect seasoned and lemony flavor and super fresh [$13, 5.0 stars]. They have 3 other flavors, but I loved the classic. It comes with chips and salsa, so I would forgo the individual order. 3.  Filet Mignon Taco: flavorful, well cooked, perfect [4.5 stars] 4.  Carnitas Taco:  super tender and moist, delicious!  [4.5 stars] 5.  Short rib -- winner of the day. So tender and wonderful [5.0 stars] 6.  Herbed Lime Rice ($5) -- So darn good, and buttery.  Great compliment to the tacos. 7. Black Beans ($5) -- really good, but the standard fare. Would save your Abe Lincoln. We also got a couple of drinks. Good! Margaritas are $13-$17, but they also feature a $30 version, ouch! Fourth: The Service ================= Great! Carlos, our waiter, was terrific! Smiley and friendly, responsive, accommodating, and helpful. Just what you want for a wonderful experience. Fifth: The energy and vibe ===================== Full place with positive energy and a super vibe. Conclusion ========= You may know that I'm a crispy taco guy, but Puesto serves up the best soft tacos on the planet. I think this Puesto can do a lot better. I just moved back to the Bay Area after living in San Diego for 10 years. I love the Puesto down in SD, I used to go to their location at the Headquarters downtown SD and also the one in La Jolla. Visited this Puesto location a couple of times with friends. The first time it was Taco Tuesday and we sat at the bar area. The tacos were good. I ordered the Frozen Horchata with rum but when it was served to me it wasn't a blended drink. Down in SD the Puesto serves the Frozen Horchata kind of line a slurpee. Here it was just like a regular cocktail. I wanted to say something but the bartender didn't look like they were in a good mood. We also asked for chips which we never got. 3 stars only because I like Puesto in general, but definitely room for improvement. read more

I've been to puesto a total of 3 times. Two times for happy hour. I would say overall puesto is very very tasty. I've had their tacos all of the times I've been there and I love how most of the tacos are wrapped in that thin layer of crunchy cheese that just melts in your mouth with whatever protein you choice. I tried the filet mignon, carnitas and Baja fish tacos. I love the filet mignon and carnitas taco because it comes with the cheese layer and they were so juicey and soft. They also make their tortillas in house. Their margaritas are also delicious. I'm giving this four stars because it's extremely overpriced for Mexican food but taco tuesdays offer half off tacos till closing so that's when I'll be going. read more

Popped in for lunch before my movie since it was right next door and I was feeling peckish. The hostess was very pleasant upon entry. She let us know there was a short wait but we can sit the bar if we preferred. We opted for the bar in interest of time. We sat for a few minutes before either of the two bartenders on duty acknowledged us. It wasn't busy by any means, but I shrugged it off as they were finishing up a task previously started. After enough waiting we flagged down Miles to finally take our drink order, I got the watermelon margarita with a sugar rim (A1!). After that, Miles went about his business and didn't check back on us. We had to flag him down again to take our food order, since he wasn't coming back of his own will clearly. As we're in the midst of giving him our food order he turns around and starts to pour a beer for the couple next to us! He doesn't acknowledge us after I finish speaking so we just assumed he got the order. We ordered the guacamole and had both ordered two tacos each. The server drops off our food and let's us know the chips for the guacamole will be out shortly. Miles decides to give us a basket of chips and salsa that had been sitting on the back bar for lord knows how long. I know because I saw it there when we first sat down. The server comes out with a few sets of fresh chips, so I flag Miles down yet again and said I would prefer to have fresh chips and not the one that was sitting on the bar. He rolls his eyes and gives us the fresh chips, I then hand him back the old chips and he quips "what would you like me to do with that, I can't serve that to anyone?" Sir, what am I supposed to do with that?! The icing on the cake for me, was him asking the couple right next to us if everything with their food was ok. Didn't even look in our direction, despite the fact we were half way through with our food and he never checked on us! The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the food is actually really tasty! But it's hard to focus on the delicious food when you get terrible customer service. Came here for a early dinner on a Monday night with some friends. Sat quickly and waitress was good. Place really focuses on margaritas with a ton of choices. Kind of wish they took that approach to their menu seeing how the food menu is smaller than the drink menu. I can definitely say this is the first "Mexican" restaurant I've been to where they charge you for chips and salsa. The pork rinds came out pretty fresh and tasted great, but that was about the highlight of the meal. At $10 a taco I think I should get something more than 3 pieces of shrimp in it or something that taste better than average. Puesto is an upscale Mexican restaurant chain in California, with nine locations up and down the state. Their Concord location is in the Veranda shopping center, next to the LUXE Cinema. My friends and I came here for lunch on 07/22/2021. We walked in at 11:30 am and were immediately greeted by the hostess, who led us to the table of our choice. The spectacular interior was spacious and clean. The giant tequila racks at the entrance and the colorful wall mural were very eye catching. COVID safety was not the best. None of the staff was wearing a mask or gloves, which made me a bit uncomfortable to be honest. Our server was a very friendly young woman. She brought us some complimentary chips and salsa and took our drink order. The house salsa was made with roasted tomatoes and was delicious. We shared two appetizers - Classic Guacamole ($11) and Chicharrones ($6). The guacamole was average at best. I did not notice the citrus juices or the habaneros that were supposedly in the dish. The chicharrones were excellent. They arrived hot and crackling and had a light and crispy texture. The chili lime seasoning used was exciting to the taste buds. We each ordered two tacos. I had the Maine Lobster ($12) and Quesabirria ($7.50). Frankly, I was not impressed by either one of them. Size wise, they were like Mexican street tacos. The lobster one was made with garlic butter grilled lobster, black beans, crispy onions, avocado, cilantro crema, and jalapeño pico de gallo. The lobster was hardly noticeable, as it was chopped into very small pieces and its flavor was covered up by the condiments. The quesabirria one was made with crispy melted cheese, braised short rib, Jalisco salsa, pickled radish, and avocado. The crispy melted cheese was nice, but the braised short rib was on the dry side. Service was outstanding. Our server was attentive to our needs throughout the meal. The total, with tax and tip, was about $130. Despite the pleasing environment and excellent service, the food was overpriced and fell short of my expectations. As such, I believe a 3-star rating is appropriate. Glad I tried, but a return visit is unlikely. Not sure what's happening here but this is a slippery slope (down). The lack of consistency with the taste of the food is detrimental to your ratings. The food is missing salt and other seasoning but I see others saying it's too salty, how??? The lack of consistently seasoning the food is mind boggling. Everything is smaller but the prices are worse or the same but you get less food and it's obvious. You can fix this. If the food is excellent people won't complain (as much) IT HAS TO BE GOOD. Bring in a professional and have them help you figure out what's wrong with the salt and seasoning and you may be surprised people will pay for consistently good tasting food even if it's smaller in portion. Came here to kick start my birthday weekend with the family. The hostess was very accommodating and rightly pointed out that I'd made the reservation for tomorrow instead of this evening. The place was a third empty at almost 7pm on a Friday night. Sadly, we learned why. It took forever for the server to pour us water. It took fotwver forever for her to take our orders. Once we did, the food did fly out of the kitchen with such speed that it was obvious that it wasn't made to order. The chips were aggressively salted. My kid thought the guacamole could use a lot more lime juice. The second server told us the salsa upgrades were spicy. They weren't. The rice and beans' flavors were muddled or just meh. My kids were mixed on their food. One taco was inedible: carnitas. All the drinks were fine, but small given the price. The restroom had paper overflowing from the wastebasket onto the floor. Let's talk about price ... I was ridiculous for what you get. The food was uneven. The service was indifferent, apathetic, and dismissive. Our money was being used on paying for the cavernous space that was so devoid of life that someone should get the heart paddles because it was flatlining. Puesto made me sad. Maybe it was off for a Friday night. I really wanted to like it and launch for birthday festivities. The only way we will go back is if someone else is paying. It didn't come with salt so obviously gotta ask for some to get a proper experience. Pretty good. We started off chicken flautas, side of corn, chips with salsa and guacamole. We also had some tacos. I had the Baja fish and birria short ribs. The chips with guacamole is a must get, best guacamole ever! The chicken flautas were ok, good crispy shell with not dry chunks of chicken. It just lacked in flavor. The tacos were really good, nice, good quality, good flavors, but pretty expensive for what it is. Overall, nice upscale Mexican food. I would definitely come back again to try other dishes and anytime I have a guacamole craving. If you're in the Veranda Shopping Center and are in the mood for a sit-down Mexican meal with an upscale ambiance, you should try this place out. The Veranda is always super packed on the weekends, and trying to get a walk-in at a restaurant will have you waiting about an hour. We walked into Puesto on a whim and were told the wait would only be 10 minutes! The hostess took down our phone number and we received a text once our table was ready. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, the vibes are immaculate. The menu was more limited than what you would expect at a Chevy's, as the entire food menu fits on one side of the paper menu and the drinks menu was on the opposite side. We were a party of 3 and decided to have one of each of the Plates options. Venduras (vegetarian), Carnitas, and Grilled Shrimp. Unfortunately there was no Carne Asada option, which is my favorite. If I ever order one of the Plates again, I would actually go for the Venduras, where the main part of the dish are the mushrooms. You may also choose corn tortillas as an add-on for $2. I asked our waitress if any of the cocktails can be virginal, and she said only a few can be virgin. The Fruit Cart cocktail being one of them. It was a flavorful mix of fruit juices and chamoy, which I highly recommend if you're into really sweet drinks. The Fruit Cart with alcohol is $15 but without alcohol was only $6. read more
