First time at Tacos Don Chai and had the opportunity together a "sneak preview" of their soon to launch breakfast tacos. I love Mexican food so was excited to try these and they were great! Three generous tacos filled with eggs, cheese and choice of meat ( I had sausage and hubby had chorizo). Enjoyed these very much and a nice change from a breakfast burrito. I reviewed the other breakfast items and they looked great. Can't wait to come back and try these as well as lunch! There is a nice outdoor patio area to eat, but I got ours to go. Parking is very limited but there is some parking available across the street marked with "No parking" signs, which was a bit confusing until I read closely and noticed it said "except Tacos Don Chai". So don't be confused and grab one of those spots. read more

Earlier in the week, I tried their chorizo breakfast tacos and an agua fresca. The chorizo with egg tacos were good, I loved the cheese in them. They had crunchy chips on top. The salsa , I usually prefer the green sauce but I liked their red sauce more. The agua Fresca was refreshing. There is booth seating only inside. Outside there is more seating in addition to table seating. It's a beautiful garden with decor. They also sell gummies candies and pastries inside. Parking is limited. I went here for the yelp event and had a good experience. It was easy to find, the restaurant was clean, and I really loved the decor and inviting atmosphere. I got the breakfast tacos, and they were absolutely delicious! I hadn't had breakfast tacos in a while, so this was the perfect opportunity to enjoy them again, and they did not disappoint. A friend and I stopped by Wednesday morning around 9:30 AM for the Yelp Elite event. This was actually my third time at Tacos Don Chai, and I can confidently say that the only thing that keeps me from visiting more often is the drive. For the event, we received three breakfast chorizo tacos and a soursop agua fresca, and we also ordered two Brisket Quesabirria tacos and an Al Pastor Queso taco. The food was solid overall. I think the meats could use a bit more seasoning or marinated longer, and while the breakfast tacos were good, I would've liked more chorizo (I may just be biased against breakfast tacos and burritos since it's mainly eggs). The Brisket Quesabirria stood out with its tender, flavorful meat, and the Al Pastor remains a reliable choice from what I remember and heard from my friend. taco. What really stood out this time around was the customer service. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome. They greeted us warmly, took our order, brought out our food, checked in on us throughout the meal, offered us drinks, and made sure we were enjoying our experience. First off I was so excited to try this place. I've heard about it, but when the opportunity came for this yelp event, I definitely knew I needed to try it out. Well I noticed there's not a lot of parking. That's the only downfall but it's definitely worth parking across the street or on the side of the small building. Because the food has so much flavor it's so delicious. I ordered the three chorizo breakfast tacos. I also got a large Agua Fresca soursop! It had so much flavor and it was so refreshing! The workers are really nice, and greeted you with smiles! The smells from the kitchen were amazing. When you walk outside to the patio area, it's beautiful. There's like a running water fountain a bunch of different tables. It's very unique. They do bring out your food and your drink to you as well which was really nice. Picked up my order 2 min early and it was ready to go. Welcoming and friendly staff greeted me and offered me salsa options. This was a big breakfast burrito for having no rice or beans and it was still very hot when I began enjoying it. I customized it with bacon and chorizo, cilantro, onions, and fresh pico. I was in heaven eating this thing and hurt my stomach by going too fast! Fresh eggs and jalapeño that had the perfect bite along with the salsa verde had me happy and satisfied. After experiencing this place through a yelp event I knew I had to take my guy and go back. We went in a Saturday early evening to grab dinner to go. The staff was very kind and the food was delicious. I had the quesadilla with carne asada. It's huge! Feed me for three meals. My guy got a chicken burrito and he raved about it. The portions are huge and it is priced just right. The rice is perfect. The pineapple salsa stoke the show though. I literally want that by the jar. This will be in our rotation for sure. read more

I've been all over the Bay, from SF's Breakfast Little to Berkeley's La Mission. Tacos Don Chai has one of the best, if not the best breakfast burrito in the Bay. I typically order the sausage or go no meat and add guac. The tater tots are always fried to a crunchy perfection. The scrambled eggs are light and fluffy. But the real secret is the layer of grilled cheese just under the tortilla, making each bite filled with gooey, cheesy deliciousness. For salsas, I get their salsa verde. I'm leaving this review only because I grew up eating chorizo con huevos and to this day it is my favorite breakfast dish. Tortillas de harina... some frijoles refritos. Con madre!...IYKYK. So I stopped at DC to give them a second chance at making me a "Whopping 5 egg" chorizo burrito with tots and cheese inside. Well lets just say that did not happen. Maybe 2 eggs, chorizo and tots with some cheese. How do I know? I made myself a chorizo burrito the next day, no tots only chorizo con huevos and cheese. And I used 3 eggs. And as you can see there's no way that the burrito i purchased from DC is 5 eggs plus tots n cheese. That burrito would be massive. DC's burrito is definitely not that, less than average at best. It's unfortunate because I live around the corner and was hoping to find a solid restaurant to pick up a burrito of my favorite breakfast on the go. The search continues. They were not. Additionally, I ordered some quesabirria tacos. All of this was to go. When I got home, there was no consome. Say what? I guess I was supposed to ask for the consome. I really wanted to like this restaurant, the reviews are amazing and pictures make it look great. When you get there, the restaurant is compact so you may have to pull chairs to complete a table if you're in a big group. We ordered birria super burritos, they came with a few different salsa options, it appeared to be Chipotle salsa, a pineapple(?) style salsa, and a green one I'm not too sure of. They only had one agua Fresca flavor, guanabana. I cut my burrito in half because the portion size was big. The burrito was a mess; lots of moisture, not enough rice to absorb it and lacking of flavor. It really tasted like it was thrown together, which I assume is because they were busy. The staff were friendly, as friendly as possible considering how busy they were. I understand birria is made in consume so the moisture is inevitable, however I feel adding more rice would have helped counteract it. If someone opted to go there, I'd recommend something other than the burritos. read more

Ah, this place!!!! Such a hidden gem located directly in front of the Martinez refinery, which normally, would be a point deduction actually adds to the ambiance. I've lived in Martinez all my 39 years and this is by far the best Mexican food we've had here. Sorry everyone else, I still love you, but the FLAVOR here. Unmatched. Service is always on point and the people who work here seem to be happy to be there. But avoid Tuesdays unless you really want the $1 off tacos- can get pretty crowded. I've tried everything but the ramen, which is usually unavailable. As soon as they have it, I need to try it. My fav is the quesotaco brisket birria, followed by the burrito and steak and chicken quesadillas (huge). My 3 young kids loved those. I love the different homemade salads too. Have to update my review to 4 stars. My wife and I came here this past Sunday for lunch after coming back from L.A. we ordered 4 quesobirria tacos and 4 chicken tacos. The chicken tacos barely had any meat in it. In top of that, they gave us 4 small salsas for 8 tacos...Could we have requested more? Sure, but I shouldn't have to. Maybe they had an off day. My boyfriend wanted to try a place that offers chicken quesatacos, because he can't eat beef (quesabirria). We haven't found a local restaurant that really stood out to him, until we tried Don Chai! We ordered for pick up through Door Dash because their website wasn't working. I didn't realize they close so early (5pm)! We ordered around 4:30pm and our food was ready fairly quickly! The food smelled so good!!! I ordered 3 quesabirria's with consome on the side. The consome was in a small container and didn't cost extra, but you had to request it. The tacos also came with 3 different salsas. My boyfriend really enjoyed his 3 chicken quesatacos and said that this was our new place to go! Ay yo! Where has this place been all my life. My wife and I got some of the breakfast tacos, cheesy, chorizo filled goodness is what they were. And the salsas! One was sweeter, one was sharp spicy, another was smooth and flavorful and the last one was a deep heat that made the soda sparkle! I rarely make it out to Martinez, but this place has been on my radar for a while. I ordered the Super Burrito with birria and the chilaquiles rojos with chorizo, an over-easy egg, and rice and beans. The chilaquiles were outstanding, honestly the best I've had in a long time. The flavors were spot on, and I highly recommend ordering them the same way I did. The Super Burrito was also really good. I loved the smokiness of the red sauce, while the green sauce had a creamy, tangy lime flavor that balanced everything nicely.
