Cool decor and service was fine. But the food was just ok. Chips were not fresh. Drinks were weak. Dinner was plain. Probably will be back to give it another try though.

Had a nice dinner here for the first time. Ended up ordering the fish tacos which were nice and crunch, flavorful and filling! Shared the carne asada tacos too, just to try to them and they were quite juicy - just added some extra salt to my liking. The margarita flight was excellent - had the classic, strawberry, and watermelon and each one was quite tasty. Shared some chips and salsa and ordered the guacamole, which was quite creamy! Service was solid and really dug the ambience and vibe.

This place never disappoints me. I come to this place a lot since the place is near my job. This time I came in with 5 other friends for a Christmas gift exchange. We order drinks , it was busy so drinks took a while to arrive to our table. Then we order food, we order a queso fundido to start and of course the free chips and salsa that are amazing kept coming cuz them soo soo good :) Finally we order our entrees and another round of drinks. Service was good, and the ambience is always fun and friendly. The young manager is also really nice and always makes sure we are fine. I will keep coming back :)

Cantina Jack's is located in the heart of the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center. I met a group of friends here to celebrate a belated birthday for one of them on 05/28/2025. My friends had already gotten a table when I walked in at around 5:30pm. Being this was my first time here, I was immediately struck by the beautiful interior. The color scheme was vibrant, and the natural sunlight gave the room a warm and welcoming feel. There was a large bar area with TVs showing different sporting events. Occupancy was about 90% full, which gave the room a lively atmosphere. A trio of starters, along with complimentary chips and salsa, were already on the table when I sat down. The starters - Carne Asada Sopes, Ceviche, and Queso Fundido, were all very good. Out of the trio, I liked the Ceviche the best. The seafood was fresh, and the taste was light and tangy. Our original plan was to order some HH tacos, but our server failed to take our order prior to the 6pm cutoff time. One of my friends thought she did that on purpose just so we have order from the regular menu (in order to get a bigger tip). I ended up getting the Sizzling Chicken Fajitas. While it tasted alright, they were stingy on the chicken. I only saw five or six pieces of it. Service was subpar. Our server was friendly but inattentive. Not only she failed to take our HH order prior to the cutoff time, she also didn't check on us during the meal. I had to flag her down once for refill, and another time the manager actually had to do her job for her. It was most disappointing. The total, with T/T, was north of $200. Honestly, the overall experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Return trip extremely unlikely. 2 stars.

    Lamb Burrito Bowl

I had lunch at this restaurant. Fantastic. The service was on point. But more importantly the food was great. I had the burrito bowl with Lamb meat. The lamb was do tender. Between talking with my lunch partner and eating this hearty bowl I couldn't finish. What I brought home I ate for dinner. The only thing I would add my watermelon margarita was a little weak. Jack's is across from this rest and I enjoy their food also

    Sadly dissatisfied

Kids quesadilla was a definitely a winner!!!! But this is my second time at Cantina Jack's, and sadly this place constantly leaves me with "buyers remorse". The space is beautiful and I'm sure the food is delicious to their target demographic, I guess I'm just not it. But the space is always packed, especially on the weekends. The food is extremely bland, truly lacks flavor. It doesn't even compare to the old school chevy's flavors. Today I ordered the fajita skillet, presentation was fine, but the shrimp were over cooked and the pinto beans were disappointing. I also ordered a Paloma, but the drink was overrun by the alcohol, so I switched to a Bellini. It arrived served in a champagne flute as opposed to a small wine glass and gave sugary, syrupy and premade mix. Maybe it's not premade, but it's definitely not giving "fresh" Bellini. It's also not giving Bellini, it's giving syrupy mimosa. We sat near the window to take in the fresh air and ended up be surrounded by parents using our window to place their children outside. And parents yelling across dinning tables at their children outside of the open windows. I know this is going to read as I'm bashing the space, which I am not!!!! The community truly loves this space and the flavors, it's just not for me. But don't allow my experience to deter you. Please try it, the kidddos definitely love it!

Two carnitas and one shrimp taco Happy hour style
    William D.

Arrived at happy hour (3-6 pm)and they have some great bargains on delicious tacos and draft beers and cocktails. I had two carnitas and one shrimp tacos, hot, fresh and yummy. The little woman had a cheese enchilada combo plate she thoroughly enjoyed, pinto beans, rice and tortillas included Busy, loud inside with tall ceilings. They have outside seating for the good weather. House salsa (almost like a tomato soup) with hot salty chips complementary. I will return for further menu sampling.

Atmosphere is clean, airy. artsy, and vibrant. Service was nice. Chips=stale on a Friday at lunch Salsa= perfect heat Al pastor taco= meat was flavorful, soft but a bit fatty. Tortilla was excellent. Enchiladas= they allowed a mix of two different kinda and both were good Rice is not traditional but tasty Try it for yourself

It's been a minute since I've eaten somewhere new, so when I wanted to catch up with an old colleague, she mentioned Jack's Cantina in Pleasant Hill. I checked out the menu beforehand and thought, "ok, let's see." I was pleasantly surprised--the décor was super cute and perfectly matched the Mexican flair. Their happy hour runs from 3-6pm, and I tried the pink guavarita, which had just the right flavor balance, along with fish tacos that were cooked to perfection. Service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!

Fun take on Mexican food with an extensive tequila list. Met family here for dinner and it was the first time for all of us. We were seated right away and by an open window to enjoy the cooling down of a warm summer day. We shared an order of esquites and guacamole with chips, one had a chicken burrito bowl, one had the tacos Americana, one had the grilled snapper and I went with the watermelon salad and the Greek (lamb) tacos. We all enjoyed our selections. I will be back to try a tequila flight and some happy hour goodies.

Blue neon arches, a huge underwater mural, plush chairs and low tables along the back wall. Worth the detour. Chris was working the bar on his second day and greeted us like a regular. I skipped my usual Manhattan and went with the Smoke Break, bourbon with bitters, smoke and black cherry. He nailed it. That is the one I would order again. Kudos to Chris for making the smoke linger and make the drink taste fantastic. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.

Fantastic drink. My friend tasted mine and ordered the same. The selection is the draw here. One look at the shelves tells you they have the base for any drink you want. We split the Margherita flatbread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and blistered cherry tomatoes, and it hit the spot as a drinking snack. The menu goes deeper than expected for a bar, with sliders, naan tacos, and charcuterie if you show up hungry. Service was good considering the staff-to-crowd ratio. Sevan stayed attentive the whole time and clearly knows his stuff. The vibe is chill and conversation-friendly, not too loud for the size of the room, with a bank of TVs toward the back if you want to catch a game. Logistics are easy.
