I came here on the hottest day possible! I wanted a sweet treat and I wanted something light. This place is known for their Japanese style pancakes. We also saw tarts and instantly got interested in that too. We ordered two tarts and their best seller - biscoff cookie crumble puffy cake. The cashier was nice and answered all my questions. After we paid, the food came straight to our table. The interior is so clean and comfortable. We enjoyed looking at the interior. For the food, the puffy cake was on the sweeter side but it goes well with a drink. The puffy cake was warm and fun to eat. I shared it with a friend so it was the perfect portion size. We also ordered the key lime tart and strawberry tart. They were both delicious in our opinion. They were served cold but still fresh. I would say to give this place a try!!! read more

My husband and I stopped by Puffy Cakes and it was such a wonderful experience! The place is absolutely beautiful, the decor inside is so cozy and stylish, and it's located in a nice area with easy parking outside. The service was excellent. The staff took their time to explain everything to us and were very accommodating, for example, they adjusted our drinks to be sugar-free without hesitation and gave me the full list of their available macarons. The menu is quite varied, with plenty of options to satisfy any craving. We ordered a mint tea which really impressed me because most places tend to stick to trendy boba or milk-based teas, but this was a refreshing and authentic option. My husband had the matcha and, as someone who has tried many matchas around Chicago, he was very impressed with the quality and flavor here, it's honestly one of the best we've tried. As for the treats: we chose the original Japanese fluffy cake and two coffee-flavored macarons. The cake was delicious, light, and perfectly prepared, but I have to say, the macarons were outstanding! They offer a wide variety of macaron flavors, and I definitely recommend trying them. Someone I knew had been hearing about this dessert place and wanted to try it, so we went to check it out. Puffy Cakes is a cute cafe vibe counterserve place where you can order their puffy cakes (hard to describe, it's a fluffy cake that feels almost similar to a Japanese souffle pancake but not quite) that comes in various flavors as well as some other desserts they have. We opted to share a puffy cake with a Twix type flavor and this pink mousse looking case. I enjoyed the puffy cake a lot - I love that type of batter, but the Twix was stale and I'd probably recommend going with the original. Sometimes, simple is best. I cannot recall the exact flavor of the bright pink item we ate but we were surprised by how light the texture was and really liked it - I recommend trying it when you're there. Overall, a nice dessert spot to hang out and chat with a friend and worth trying if you want to try a new dessert. read more

Went in to work on a Friday afternoon. It was very loud, making it hard to concentrate. There were at least three noise sources at any given time. There is plenty of room and tables to work at and free wifi, but I got the impression that the staff didn't want us sticking around. As for the cake, it was great. I got the biscoff cake and it was drenched in cookie butter. The cakes were bigger than I expected - they could definitely be split between two people. The matcha was standard. We tried the matcha and Ube cheesecakes. No toppings. Visually, texturally and taste-wise, this is a very poorly attempted imitation at Japanese souffle cheesecakes. Barely, if any, flavor of neither Ube nor matcha in the cakes. The texture was inconsistent between the two cakes. Ube was strangely dense, the other was softer, a little closer to the real thing. At least they weren't dry. The cakes are wrinkly, saggy, and make me sad. No issues with service. Cashier was very nice. I wouldn't return to try more of the menu. read more

Full disclosure, my friends just opened this spot so I'm going to be a bit biased. The cakes and the tea here are delicious. The cakes are said to be like a cheesecake but there isn't so much of a cheese flavor to them. They're super soft and moist, and would pair very well with a coffee or tea for morning breakfast. I had this one cold but I would try them warm and see how I like that. I also had the little blueberry tart thing and it was delicious. I had one of the premium teas (I can't remember which) and that was also very good. The ambiance is cute. It's a chill little spot you can get a cake and a tea on a weekend morning before starting the rest of your day. Or maybe even an afternoon tea break. The owner in so many words told me that I need to be white to get the same privilege that the 2 ladies that were white received when I walked in. I arrived and was walking up to the counter. The cakes really do be puffy here! We actually didn't get the cheesecakes but instead opted for the Ube and matcha bread pudding and raspberry French lemon tart. The bread pudding was really tasty and reminded me of an elevated pound cake. The lemon tart, as the name suggests. The crust is really tasty. The worker at the front was really friendly. This place is such a cute new spot in west town! The workers are super nice and accommodating. They answered all of our questions and helped us choose a couple desserts to try. The cheesecake is fluffy and not too sweet which I absolutely loved. We tried both the matcha and ube! The cheese tarts were also very good & the pudding cake was surprisingly so chewy and yummy as well. ZERO stars. I have tried Uncle Tetsu's in L.A. and Keki's in NYC, and Puffy Cakes does not come anywhere close! It was almost inedible. The original Japanese cheesecake is supposed to be incredibly jiggly and fluffy, but theirs is overly dense and grossly wet. I was also shocked that their tiny 4-inch sized cheesecake is $10.50, which is ridiculously overpriced. So disappointed. read more

This is one of our new favorite places! The seating area is fresh and clean. The owners and all employees have been so kind to us and our kids. Their cakes are a little bigger than a man's fist, for an idea of their size, and they are totally worth the price. They are so cute in their package and the puffy texture and flavor are perfect. The chocolate and the caramel sauces are great. We haven't tried the other sauces, but we are planning to go back and check them out next time. We would really like to try their teas and coffees also! If you're trying to decide between Puffy Cakes and Hoosier Mama across the street, I'd say get both and it depends what you're in the mood for. The actual Puffy Cakes are incredibly satisfying if, like me, you love a sweet treat that doesn't make your teeth ache from too much sugar. The texture is LOVELY and rich. Be prepared to try something new, it's not conventional American cheesecake. It's not especially cheese but I was not disappointed!
