I started shopping exclusively at Pug and Hound in Geneva about a year ago for all my fur-kids food, supplements, and chews after experiencing that they are the only pet health food store that carry ONLY the safest brands. All the staff have a vast knowledge of all their products and why and under what circumstances to use them. Additionally, everyone that works there is incredibly friendly, supportive, and compassionate. The owner, Krysta, has helped me with specific protocols through nutritional consults for each of my 3 Maltese and has graciously helped us tweak them based on their changing needs over time. Owner and her dog were absolutely friendly. You can find organic dog shampoo and many other unheard of products that isn't food related either! I experience Krysta as not being open to constructive criticism. I shared feedback with Krysta and she cancelled my dog's upcoming vet appointment at her store. For 2 months, my pup and I waited for his holistic vet appointment at Pug and Hound. I saved money to be able to afford this extra care & watched my puppy struggle with allergies. As I worked to help my pup myself, I again stopped into Pug and Hound for more supplies. Krysta and I spoke just days before the appointment at her store about my pup's allergies and that I needed specialized food and treats. We were ready for care! Since I had surgery right before the vet appointment scheduled at Pug and Hound, I submitted my pup's medical forms to their store ahead of time. I even called to check to see if the forms were received. 24 hours before the vet appointment at Pug and Hound, I received a text message saying my pup's medical forms were lost. The intake, my permission & all the previous vet docs handed to Pug and Hound for the new vet WERE MISSING. I was disheartened. What happened???! Lost medical records are a big deal. I experienced Krysta as being very casual about this. Krysta said she didn't lose the forms, their system did. I expressed my complaints to Krysta. Their portal system is the responsibility of Pug and Hound, not mine. Krysta said to resend ALL medical forms again. Yet I could not fix the missing information that day due to surgery recovery. After I took extreme measures to resend the missing medical forms while in surgery recovery (with help from loved ones), I then received a text message saying that Pug and Hound decided to cancel my puppy's long awaited vet visit that we saved for. It was about 20 hours before the appointment when Pug and Hound cancelled it on me. WHY TREAT US LIKE THAT??! It seems very obvious that Krysta doesn't like me. Yet, Krysta is a professional & a local business owner. She willing made a decision that hurt me professionally (I told her a had to use one of my limited days off & spent hours prepping my class and the substitute) and most importantly, her decision hurt my dog. IMO, Krysta's actions do not align with the message of open care shared by Pug and Hound. This was hurtful. My pup and I have known & supported Krysta & the entire Pug and Hound family for nearly 7 years. How terribly disappointing to have been treated this way after all this time. I hope no one else ever experiences this at Pug and Hound. read more

The female owner (Krysta?) spent about an hour talking to my husband and I about our dogs skin issues, dietary fixes, and ethical issues in the dog food industry. The owner has a seperate job; she started this as a passion project after doing a ton of research to figure out her own dogs' health issues. She's a licensed vet tech, and opened this store on the side because she wanted to help other dogs owners address their dogs health issues through food and supplements as opposed to giving them a million prescriptions. It seems too good to be true, but I think they really care about your pet. She gave us her card with her personal cell and texted us when I had questions about the probiotic we were using. The owners are super knowledgeable and friendly; the plethora of organic products they carry are of spectacular quality, and my customer satisfaction only increases with each visit. The store layout is setup like a candy shop where your dogs and cats will drool over the treats and food. They even have cold item foods that I never knew existed, like dog cheese and dog root beer! My friends cats love me more than their owners it seems when I bring over catnip and food toppers. Some of their CBD and joint mobility health products have made a difference in my German Shepard's elderly age; she climbs stairs and runs through fields with much less effort than before. If you truly care about your animals and want them to live a long, fulfilling life, one way is through their stomachs (and overall health)! I wandered in with my pup a couple of months ago. We were both warmly welcomed by the owner and chatted a length about puppies. He suggested several good products and advice for my new puppy's anxiety. The store is thoughtfully stocked with quality items from speciality treats, toys, and necessities. I noticed they sell Ezy-Dog harness and leashes--hands down the best and most comfortable leash I've owned. Mine is still looking new at over 10 years old! read more

Owner of the shop was incredibly helpful with helping me find quality products for my 4 cats! They offer a number of selections that are organic and gluten-free. They are very excited about helping their customers and immediately greeted me and asked me questions about my pets. They gave me details about distributors that they work with. Bruce and Willy's was recommended to me by my friend Laura who frequents the store often. I decided to take a trip out to Geneva  (I live in Park Ridge) on my day off to check it out and hopefully pick up some CBD oil and supplements for my two French Bulldogs; one of which was recently diagnosed with IVDD. I can not say enough good things about Krysta and Jeff. They truly love what they do and they will go above and beyond educating their customers on all of the wonderful natural products they sell in their store. It's especially reassuring that Krysta is a Vet Tech as well and knowledgeable about various veterinary conditions and medications. Krysta and Jeff took more than enough time out of their day to help me select some items that would be beneficial for my one dog who is currently going through 4 weeks of strict crate rest.  I came home and gave him some of the CBD Oil I purchased and within 20 min he was calm and sleeping. I have tried CBD oil in the past and never had this kind of success! They also recommended a supplement that both of my dogs can take daily to promote overall joint support. Even though Bruce and Willy's is quite a drive for me, I will absolutely return in the future. The service that Jeff and Krysta provide is amazing. They are so knowledgeable about the products and spend a great deal of time discussing your pet's issues and how the various products that they carry may help your pet. They are PASSIONATE about helping your pet feel their best and are equally as dedicated to procuring and selling only the very best products for your pet. You don't have to worry about hidden synthetic ingredients showing up in the supplements or food that you buy from them. I can say that every single product that they have recommended has had a positive impact on the quality of life for my dogs. There was a particular joint supplement that Krysta recommend for my pug. She said that people have told her that their old dogs actually act like puppies after taking this stuff. I thought well maybe for other peoples dogs but surely not my 13.5 yr old pug. My baby Luigi has always has stomach issues with his kibble, he has terrible allergies and we've struggled with hot spots his entire life. Since coming to B&W they've helped me transition Luigi to raw, along with adding some extra supplements to help make him feel good inside & out!! Luigi was diagnosed with IVDD in Sept 2020 and since then they've helped me come up with what works for him! I asked them about a million questions and still do LOL, and they answer every single one of my questions with honesty. He is now 100% raw fed and takes all natural supplements everyday. Since his diagnosis I never once put him on a prescription pill because of Krysta & Jeff's guidance. Luigi is a 7.5 year old Great Dane who because of this stores owners acts like a 3 year old Great Dane! Not only is his energy level back to a pup, his entire demeanor has changed. My very picky eater (Boxer) is only three and he was on the road to poor health due to lack of nutrition. I bought over 15 different brands of food, tried mixing in bland human food, medications...nothing would get my dog to eat on a consistent basis. After stopping in at Bruce and Willy's, I discovered that no wonder my fur baby wouldn't eat....the mass marketed typical food was devoid of nutrients that are bio available to dogs. What dog cooks its food? But I was afraid of raw diet. Too many stories of improper handling and dangerous bacteria. So the store started me out with freeze dried raw food blends. It looks like kibble but it is not cooked and not drenched in chemicals. My dog started eating better on day one! Today he is on a fully raw diet and goes back to lick his bowl rather than avoiding meal time! We have added Goat milk for dessert and for added gut health support and he is thriving. I have another dog who isn't as fussy about food, but once Jeff and Krysta educated me on the benefits of raw, how could I deprive my 10 year old Bischon/ Lhasa mix the health benefits in his aging body? Bruce and Willy's turned this very skeptical and hesitant fur baby mom into a life long customer because of their honest and knowledgeable approach. They'll take product back if you don't like it.
