I had a contract with Petro Oil for Oil delivery, maintenance, and repair. I have 2 oil furnaces and an oil hot water heater. There were to come out 2 times a year to inspect and fix any issues along with changing the oil filter and nozzle, along with cleaning. They would come and would be done in less than 10 or 15 minutes with 3 things that needed to be worked on. My main house heater went up last year along with the AC unit. When they were pulling out my heater we found a 6-inch crack heating chamber. I did not believe it and wanted to see the crack with my own eyes. When I saw the crack I about lost it. The man that was putting in my new system said it looked to have been there for a while and anyone that was taking care of my unit should have been able to find it easily. That crack in that pipe could have done some serious damage to my family in the house. At that moment I called Petro and canceled all of my services with them. I started my hunt to find good oil prices and a company that I could trust. I came across Pug oil and gave them a call. Pam picked up the phone and was just as nice as can be. Their prices were about the market normal. But just talking with Pam sold me for their company. I had them deliver 150 gallons to top me off, they told me they would be out the next day. about an hour later the oil truck was there. I was very impressed. Now, this was last year, I was planning on starting a service contact with them for a yearly cleaning and checkup. But after getting my new furnace I forgot to call them up. Over a month and a half ago. January of 2022. My second Furnace stopped working (for the area above my garage) Of course it is like 15 degrees outside and I needed someone to come and fix it. Well, it was 9 pm on a Friday evening, I called and got their after-hours call center and left a message with them. I got a call around 10 pm saying the guy was 10 minutes away. The Unit needed to have the electrodes cleaned and adjusted, he replaced the nozzle and filter. Everything started working and he was on his way. The price of the work and the emergency call/after-hours was reasonable. Plus the gentleman was very pleasant to work with. Well with a stroke of good luck That following Monday, 3 days later my hot water stopped working. I thought I was losing my mind. So I called them first thing Monday morning and told them that the hot water heater was broken. The same man came to my house at about 11 am and did not leave till almost 4. My hot water heater was backfiring. He showed me the center chamber of the hot water heater to see that the soot had blocked all but a dime-size hole in the exhaust flue. He took everything apart and cleaned it, while next to my other unit he cleaned it as well. I know for a fact that Petro never cleaned out any of these parts and he said this was more than 10 years of backed-up soot. Well at the end of this repair I now have 3 great working units hot water and a cozy warm house. He was great, Pam was great, Pug oil is great. Their prices are reasonable, family-owned, and have a great staff. Thank you for everything and sorry for the really long review. I've been a Pug's customer for 25 Years. I've relied on them in the past to repair the oil furnace in my home. The technician was courteous and experienced. In November when a cold snap came, my furnace went into a lock out failure. The system uses a heat pump with oil back up. The clown they sent out didn't replace anything. He was frustrated and discourteous to my wife when I questioned his diagnostic capabilities. We paid $200 and I knew it would fail again. The next cold snap four days before Christmas, no heat again. We called and they promised a technician the next day. The house was cold with outside temps below 30. They called the morning of the scheduled repair and said they were not coming, suggesting I call someone else for service because they were not going to repair my furnace. I asked about the $200 that I had already spent and he replied "it was working when we left". They had switched the unit to emergency heat. He promptly hung up on me and would not answer the phone when I called back. Skilled help is difficult to find these days. Quality customer service at Pug's is even more difficult. These are not nice people. Time to find another supplier. Don't let the one star fool you, you can't leave zero stars. read more

I, unlike the previous reviewer, love Pugs. When I bought my hundred year old Baltimore row home, the previous owners had already signed an oil burner maintenance and delivery contract with Petro. For two winters I was in a constant state of panic because my oil burner barely worked and used thousands of dollars in oil just to heat my 1,600 sq ft house. I saw Pugs making oil deliveries in my neighborhood and decided to give them a call. For the last 7 years I have relied on them for my annual tune up and oil delivery. I have a very old oil burner but their techs know how to make it run right. I now only have to call once a year for a cleaning and that's it. No more waking up on a 20 degree day to find my burner not working. They've kept my 1970's boiler running like it was built yesterday. And my boiler runs more efficiently. Now only use 1.5 tanks of oil in a winter rather than 2.5. They're a small, family owned/run business so with that come some hiccups, but in my opinion, they are worth it to support a family run business. If I could give zero stars I would. I had a contract with them to service my heat and a/c. They came out and did the service on the furnace a few years ago. The service technician told me I had a cracked heat exchanger. For some reason I knew something was up. I went down and opened the cover on the furnace and found an oily rag that I knew hadn't been there before. So I closed it back up with the rag in place. The service tech came out a second time to recheck. He asks if I smelled oil in the house. I asked him if he meant from the oily rag I found in the furnace compartment. He looked at me oddly. I asked him again about the rag. He finally looks at me somewhat shocked to find out that I had gone down into the crawlspace to check the furnace myself. When I asked if he opened the furnace and flashed a light to see if there were indeed cracks in the heat exchanger, he lied and told me the furnace unit did not open in that manner. When I had another company come out and check it - an honest one this time - the guy opened the furnace, used a flashlight as I had asked the other guy who said it was impossible to do. The honest guy said your furnace is fine - your heat exchanger is NOT cracked. This guy didn't even charge me for the visit. Needless to say, I signed a new contract with the honest company. I'm sure Pug's wasn't happy to lose the $3000 that they wanted for a new furnace that I did NOT need! read more
