Yelp did not lead us astray. Great outfit. First, they came out and gave us a quote. At first I was a little scared because the quote was a rather large range (somewhere between $400 and $600). But since they don't really know how long it will take to move into the new place, I guess it makes sense. Then, they came (right on time, to our cramped little apartment, on our cramped little truck-unfriendly street), they saw (all of our crap), they conquered (our large unwieldy furniture). Well, not only did they not show up for a move from one apartment to another, after confirming both the days and times, they didn't return calls (after getting only a voice mail msg). When I finally got thru to them, they offered to find another mover and they did. this other company came THE NEXT DAY and did a good job. BUT I had to take an extra day off work since they bailed on the first round. No compensation, no nothing. I would not recommend them. read more

Puma Moving just moved me out of my one bedroom apartment yesterday. They showed up on time. They had three movers and a woman (Zena) to specifically pack the kitchen. If you thought that trying to find a mover who actually cared about the customer was asking too much...look no further. If you're like me, I have had bad after bad experiences with movers. It's impersonal. They upcharge you any chance they get (added charge for stairs, special packing, etc...). And the movers look like they've just been paroled. Puma Moving is unlike any other moving company I've ever dealt with. The people I talked to on the phone (Guy & Zena) were the same people who showed up on my move day. They were so polite and courteous I thought they were putting me on at first. They really are that nice...and professional. If I were to sum up the difference between Puma Moving and all the rest, I would say this: The price they quote you is the price you pay...period. They have total integrity and really care that you are happy with their quality of service. Puma Moving is the best moving experience I have ever had...and I have moved alot. I hate moving. Seriously. Even thinking about it makes me want to pick up some hard narcotics addiction and burn my worldly possessions in some drug-fueled rampage so I'll never have to worry about it again. But it seems like moving is just something I'm doomed to do from time to time and in all my moving experiences Puma has been the best. I only moved about 8 blocks into Pac Heights, but the team from Puma managed to move everything I owned in less than 3 hours. This is no small feat since I own some pretty weird shit. Giant 6-foot light-up sign that says "TAVERN"? Yup. Got that. 1947 Crosley radio and record player that weighs as much as VW Bus? Check. Enormous retro couch that's far cooler looking than it is comfortable? Indeed. In the end, all of the furniture was well wrapped and the guys from PUMA were super efficient and professional about everything. So yeah. Like many of the reviewers below me have already stated, if/when I move again Puma will definitely be getting another call (unless of course I go the whole "drug-addiction-furniture-bonfire" route). This was our first time hiring movers and thanks to my fellow yelpers, I will never again move myself. Zena at Puma Moving Company was extremely prompt and helpful when setting up my move. She answered all my questions and even called me back after hours on a Saturday! The day of the move, we were expecting a crew of 3 but an extra person showed up free of charge. Vincent, Chris, Tim, and Chong were like the dream team. Showed up right on time, surveyed the area, and then within 5 minutes had a whole wall of boxes downstairs and loaded on the truck. They were fast! Loaded up our 1 bedroom apartment in under 2 hours and that included them shrink wrapping our furniture and packing up our closets in wardrobe boxes. They even moved the plants on my deck! Unloading the truck was even faster, less than 1.5 hours. They unshrinkwrapped everything, laid down carpet protectors, unloaded all the clothes back into the closet, reassembld our furniture, and put everything in the correct room. The best thing was - they cleaned up after themselves so there was no trace of a shrink wrap or mattress pad to be seen. Super polite and friendly crew. They introduced themselves, asked for permission to use the restroom, and were extremely professional. They told us what their plan of attack was and kept us informed the whole way through. Our job got done an hour ahead of schedule! Wahoo! Quick tips for any of you considering a move - 1. hire Puma, they give you a 5% discount during the week. 2. label your boxes with contents and which room it will go in 3. to save everyone time, finish your packing before they get there. Puma moved us today and the service was fantastic. Steven, Jay, Tay, and Guy were great, and a second crew joined in mid- move which made everything go much faster. We lived fifty- one steps up and didn't have a elevator. The guys were Very nice guys, professional, and the type of people you want taking care of you and your stuff. This was the most pleasant move I have ever experienced, and I have moved about a dozen times. The woman who did my quote on the phone, Zena, was extremely pleasant and friendly. She was willing to work with me on a number of things (e.g., I requested to be charged in 15 min increments instead of 30 minute increments). She sent me a quote via email within 5 minutes and was available on the phone for me to ask several follow up questions all afternoon. The movers showed up at my place in Noe Valley, Nicholas and I forget the other person's name. They were lightening fast! They took down all the boxes in 20 minutes. They carefully wrapped every single item in blankets. Nothing had a single dent or scratch. They never stopped to talk or eat. One time when they were walking out and one of the guys answered a phone call for 2 minutes and then when he noticed that I saw that, he apologized profusely. I don't care about a 2 minute conversation! These guys were so professional and so friendly that the next time I move, I'll just call Puma directly and not bother with any other quotes. Was expecting 2 guys and for the job to take forever- instead they brought 5 (they had a very large move after mine) - they rolled in like Robin Hood's merry men - super jolly and did things really fast. I called them Jason's Five (Jason was the manager of the group.) Puma Moving Company is top-notch from the 1st phone call to when the fellas finish. Zena, Frank, and I think Irving and Jesus, all were friendly, professional, thorough as hell, and took extra care. I had no damage to my furniture (unlike prior moves), no damage to my old crappy Park Merced apt and no damage to new apartment. Amazing service, I was able to reserve the move 2 days after the initial call day after Memorial Day! The agreement was for 2 movers, but the bonus was the 3rd mover at no charge. They even arrived early, beat that rush hour traffic, and I was done in hour and a half. It helps tremendously if you send them pics of what you're moving. It was impressive how incredibly organized and efficient they were. I've discovered packaging tape can also be used to hold doors and "McGyver" hinges! lol. Upon leaving, one of them spotted a part for the metal hanging closet which they helped collapse. I got a call and they returned it right away. This by far is one of the best move ever! Puma moved me last November. The moving experience itself was fine. The guys showed up on time and got to work. A few days after they moved my things into the new house, I noticed a small ding on the front of a cabinet. Bummer but not the end of the world. They were unprepared for rain and my things got pretty wet during move in. I dried things off with towels and mopped up the muddy footprints after they left. Again, not the end of the world. The crew got absolutely soaked and I tipped them each very well. My problem with Puma moving is that they mis-handled the move out at our apartment. At the end of the move out, I left before the movers to go get cash at the bank. It was starting to rain and I didn't want to hold them up. They were literally taking out boxes of cleaning supplies and some plants. In hindsight, this was stupid of me. But the lead guy said this was ok and they would see me at the new place. I specifically asked him to close the (self locking) front door and then went around and closed all the windows and patio doors. He said he would make sure everything was locked up. But...that didn't happen. When I returned to the apartment at the end of the weekend I saw that the front door was open. One of the movers sweatshirts was in the entryway. All of the windows were open too, including the patio doors. Its a nice, quiet area in TIburon so thankfully the apartment hadn't been trashed. But all weekend long rain had been blowing in onto the carpet and the vertical blinds were totally wrecked. I was angry and disappointed. Zena was very responsive when I called to say WTF?!? The lead guy owned up to it, which was impressive because I'm sure he got into trouble. Puma paid my landlord for the blinds, although I got stuck later with some carpet bills (shady landlord). In our conversations, Zena told me nicely that Puma's policy is that customers are not allowed to leave the job site before the crew for exactly this situation. The lack of awareness on the part of the crew still troubles me but I'm very pleased that Puma made things right. read more

Top notch experience from Puma Movers. I highly recommend. The guys were friendly, went out of their way to help us pack a ton of stuff (mostly because we weren't ready for them), took shelves off the walls, you get the picture. When my husband started to pack dishes one of the guys stopped him and said something to the effect of "I got you" and got everything packed up probably twice as fast as we could have done it. Great Job Guys! I have moved 4 times within San Francisco in the last 7 years, and these guys were far superior to companies I had used previously. They arrived a few minutes early, and got started right away. They rap blankets and tape around just about everything other than boxes. This process can make the move take a bit longer, so be sure to let them know which items you don't want wrapped. They literally treated my things like they were their own. Get this - I moved into the 10th floor of an apartment building, and my couch was too big for the elevator. Without complaint, they carried my couch up the first 4 floors, realized that the 4th floor stairway was too narrow, and had to carry it back down to the bottom. They then took a different route, and carried the couch up all the way to the 10th floor. I can see that these guys charge about $15/hour less than the bigger moving companies in the City, but there is no way anyone else can beat these guys on service. I guess you have to charge a bit less when you are a smaller company trying to gain market share. You simply get more for your money with them. I hope I don't move again for a while, but I will call Puma if I do. read more

After all the praise heaped onto Puma via my fellow Yelpers, my wife and I used Puma to move from San Francisco to Redwood City - they did not disappoint. Arriving right on time, they finished the entire move within four hours, and that included disassembling our bed and an enormous IKEA bookshelf. Without directions. NICE. Not a single item was damaged or lost, and they even showed respect to the little old lady that lived beneath us in San Francisco. We hired a team of 3 to help with our move from San Leandro to San Francisco on a very rainy Saturday. The 3 man crew, Cheung (lead), Rashard, and Sergio did an AMAZING job even in the pouring rain and moving our stuff into our apartment on the 22nd floor! They arrived on-time (even early) with the truck and all the moving supplies, they were very fast, efficient, but yet were very careful with all our stuff. They wrapped all our furniture and t.v. with blankets and shrink wrap and put our bed in a mattress bag. They also took very good care of our expensive paintings. Even in the pouring rain, nothing got wet went we unwrapped. They were also very friendly. They did the move in the time quoted, although the double drive time was kind of confusing but overall the move went very smoothly. Zena was also very pleasant to work with over the phone, and she was very helpful with setting up the reservation. We have moved around alot in the past and these guys were definitely the best. I'm really torn... Zena was extremely helpful before the move, dealing with the frustrating HOA of the condo I was moving out of. Vince and his guys were amazing. Nice guys and did a fantastic job at a much faster pace than I had anticipated, especially considering the fact that the elevator died the night prior so they had to carry everything down 6 flights of stairs. The reason I had to take some stars off is because when calling around for my move, I let every mover know that my biggest requirement was a sofa that had to be hoisted down from my condo. It doesn't fit in the stairs or the elevator. I let them know the size and the approximate height of the building. I even suggested Google Streetview so they could see the exact building and unit that it would have to be hoisted from. Puma was one of the few places that said they could handle it. Come moving day, Vince (and his guys) show up right on time and the first thing he says is that there's no way they can do the hoist. Fast forward an hour of going back and forth and I'm stuck having them move everything else because it's too late to call in a different moving company. They gave us a break on the price, but ultimately, I spent way more than that to have Iron Man come a few days later and do the hoist and delivery. read more

For context, I was moving a short distance in San Francisco. Moving with Puma was incredibly easy and convenient! They provided a quote very quickly and once I contact with them, I was able to schedule a time a little more than a week before my decided move date. They're transparent about what fees there are and what the likely ultimate cost of the move will take. While they have a 3.5hr minimum and I didn't even need half of that because of how quick they were, it was absolutely worth the cost of a stress-free move. The day of the move, the movers called to confirm the time they'd be arriving and asked again to clarify the parking situation (be sure to apply for permits at least a week in advance if there's not easy parking near your location) and how much I'd need moving. The movers, Nick and Ricardo were absolutely fantastic! They were incredibly friendly, quick, and careful. They made quick work of packing up the truck and equally quick work of getting everything into the new apartment. I don't usually gush on yelp and I'm leery of people that have nothing in their reviews but 5-stars or 1-star, but these guys are worth some serious recommendation. I've had some bad experiences with moving companies in the past, the usual stuff - broken furniture, surly attitudes, etc. I figured it was par for the course. I found Puma on yelp and assumed that even filtering out the usual yelptoid gushing, these guys must be halfway decent. My expectations were exceeded. The whole contract was negotiated in email, including a 5% discount for doing the move on a Monday. All emails were responded to super fast and contracts all passed back and forth as attachments. Wow, a moving company that "gets" the modern communication age, thank you! They confirmed a few days before and called on the way, too. It's amazing how your first contact impression with a company can make a big difference. Zena, who fielded all my emails, was awesome. My place was up in the hills and most people get lost, but the guys showed up at 9am right when scheduled. I had scheduled three guys and they had a fourth at no charge. The first thing did was have everyone introduce themselves, very professional and a nice start. We did a walk-through and I pointed out everything that had to go, I had several expensive pieces from DWR/Limn/etc and everything I requested (wrap this well, etc, etc) was answered with a cheerful "no problem!" They cleaned out my place in two hours, everything was well wrapped and stacked, they were extremely conscious of the walls and doors, not a nick or anything anywhere. It was pretty amazing how fast it went and they guys have obviously been working together for a long time and work well as a team. At my destination, despite an elevator, they were organized and they had everything sorted in no time. I had labeled boxes (bath, bed, kitchen, garage, etc) and everything was put where it should be, and again, no walls or door jams were hurt in the process. When they stacked, they did so in a sensible way and kept halls clear. The web site said that they provide free wardrobe boxes, so I assumed that they would bring some for me to start shoving my hanging clothes into. Instead they just said "tell us what you want moved" and they did everything, including putting all the clothes into wardrobe boxes, and putting all the clothes in my closets at the destination. It's little touches like that you really appreciate on move day. The whole time the entire crew was upbeat and chipper. I was told that the crews at Puma are cherry-picked from elsewhere, they hire the best guys from other companies. I absolutely believe it. I kicked down $140 in tips for the guys, I could not have been happier. They even take credit cards, so you can get the miles. Moving is never fun, or cheap, but these guys totally restored my faith that they are good companies out there and I would never take my business (or my recommendation) elsewhere. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My experience with Puma Moving left me with the feeling that i will NEVER move without movers again. Specifically, Puma Movings. I originally found them on Yelp after reading several glowing reviews but was still somewhat skeptical about using a moving company. However, when the guys showed up 15 minutes early, introduced themselves & shook my hand, then proceeded to get the job done very professionally. The guys were very patient with me and moved my dresser three times despite the fact I was totally embarrassed that I changed my mind so many times. This is for a move completed way back in 2010. I didn't have time to post a review back then, but now do. I also see that per Zena (who I remember speaking to way back) someone posted a false 1 star review for an otherwise good company. That is just wrong. So, hopefully this positive review balances that bad one out. First my move was super stressful because it involved: - at least 3 landings / flights of stairs in a narrow stairway; - bad neighbors who might be so rude as to mess with driveway access; - a stop by a goodwill store on the way to the final destination; - a significant distance (plus the need to pay return mileage); I was not in the best of moods. Does anyone really love moving (versus just already being there)? I recall that the guys did all they could to a) calm me b) help pack what I had earlier thought would be ready for them (but was not!). c) add another guy (I think there was a slight extra charge which upset me but they did point out that since I didn't have everything ready it would take longer than expected etc) d) get me moved in a timely manner Yes, it cost more than I budgeted. But had I been stingy and not allowed the extra worker to join the team, it would have been too dark to be safely moving stuff into a new place (which had lighting issues / needed lamps etc and was not totally familiar to me etc). In the end, I tipped the guys. I was relieved because had it been up to me it would have been a few dollars cheaper but taken much longer (and I had to go to bed early to go to work early the next day). I'm sure that not every move can go perfect (and that few if any do). But I'm grateful that Puma strives to make each move easier for their customers. Thanks Puma. read more

These guys saved the day! I called them in a panic after my originally-scheduled movers did not arrive. I called at 9am and talked to Zena, who was not only extremely nice and helpful, but gave me an estimate similar to what I was going to pay the original movers (the estimate was slightly more, but on such short notice I was fine with it. I was just relieved they were able to help me!). By 11:15am, four guys arrived (I was only charged for two!) and they were done loading my stuff into the truck by noon. They drove to my new place, unloaded and were done by 2pm. It ended up being much less than the estimate (probably because of the two guys' labor which was free!). I told the guy I didn't want a mattress cover (because they charge extra for it), but he ended up giving it to me for free. Such good service! As others have mentioned, they pack all your smaller boxes into big boxes (maybe 6'x6'?) so your stuff doesn't slide around in the truck. This was key for me because I had a lot of smaller boxes (since those are easier to pack). They did a great job with the actual move. One guy scuffed the wall with a box and left a mark, but apologized and cleaned it up himself. I would highly recommend these guys. Thank you, Puma Moving Company for saving the day!! read more

We moved within San Francisco last week and used movers for the first time. Had to shell out some cash, but man was it worth it. Puma did a great job with everything, wrapping furniture, taking things apart and packing the truck like a game of Tetris with boxes placed perfectly in the empty spots. They were all good guys. We were, however, a little surprised to learn at the end that we owed $150 each for 2 parking permits. They hadn't included this charge in the quote. It's something they took care for us and don't make any money on (it's just covering what the police department charges) but we were neophytes in this game and assumed the quoted price included everything. in the end, they split the charge with us and agreed that they'd clarify this with future customers. This shout out is for Henry, Chris, Angelo, and Dave, the moving crew that saved my move, a comedy of errors, from ending in tragedy. They were prepared, fast, and they really know what they are doing. First of all, they arrived early. They didn't even ring the doorbell right away; they just started setting everything up--all the trolleys, ramps, boxes, and such so that they could start moving as soon they did ring the doorbell. They were really sweet, took really good care of my things, and did some pretty impressive moves with large objects, allowing them to navigate 2 narrow doorways, a hooked hallway, and 3 narrow flights of stairs. It's obvious that they've really seen every kind of oddly configured kind of building and truck parking scenario have figured out how to work around it. I heard about them from two different friends that both used this moving company and thought it was awesome service. They don't have any advertising and get all business from word of mouth and Yelp. They let their work speak for itself. PUMA moved our stuff from San Jose to San Francisco. My wife and I lived in a one bedroom apartment. Everything arrived fine without a scratch. They had excellent customer service, both at the office and on the "field." I am docking them a star because they charged for some extras like bubble wrap, which I think is bs. I could overlook that because they gave us a discount from the traveling fee or whatever they call it. But I specifically told them that our tv had to kept upright, and when I saw it in the truck it was on its side. You don't mess with a man's tv and expect to get five stars. read more

She walked through my possessions room by room on the phone to give me an accurate estimate. So, in the moving company industry, I would consider myself somewhat of an expert from a client perspective.. I have moved, hmm, lets see, six times in the past ten years. That's an awful lot of packing up and unpacking. Too much. They've been big moves too. Three moves were even from one country to another. I've used a different moving company each time so I have a lot of experience from which i can draw from. So here's the scoop. This move was pretty easy in the sense Puma only moved me three blocks away. On the positive side, Puma Moving arrived on time, packed things pretty well, and set up the furniture at my new place with minimal fuss. They were also very polite. My microwave was damaged in the move, but as soon as I let them know, Zena called back to get the model and ordered a replacement quickly. They also came to pick up the boxes once I had finished unpacking. On the negative side, I am taking off one star because I didn't think they labeled the outside of the boxes very well and in the new house, boxes were placed sort of randomly around the house. They would have earned five stars if they had checked in with me as to where to put the boxes. They also didn't pack the TV cord with the TV so It took me a good two weeks to locate the tv cord. Painful! Another funny thing was when they were leaving, my wallet was in the old place and I couldn't find my keys to open the old door so that I could write them a check. The owner told me "Oh don't worry, just send a check". well, two or three days went by and because they didn't receive a check yet, (there wasn't even time for a letter to be mailed for goodness sakes) Zena called and threatened to take further action unless I contacted her that day! My oh my!!! They don't play around! No more Ms. Nice Guy. I felt that was a bit heavy handed. I am not used to be thought of as a deadbeat but hey, who knows what kind of clients they have had in the past. I contacted her paid up by phone just to avoid that serious voice! But overall, I found their company to be pretty good and friendly-- but be sure to pay them right away or they may come over and break your legs! read more

My story is a long one, which I will have to write at a later date. For now, all I can do is give praise to Puma Moving. They moved me from SOMA-SF to San Ramon.... unbeknownst to us, President Obama decided to drop in the day I was scheduled to move. What this meant was 6 square blocks of SOMA was locked down. No cars in or out. Complete BS. Long story short, Puma Moving handled this situation like no other. They came in, got what they could early that morning and sent another team out the next day to finish it up at hardly no additional cost. And this was an extra trip to San Ramon, not SF to SF! Unreal. I don't think I could actually recommend any other service I have ever received as much I recommend Puma Moving. I worked with 8 different members from their moving team, each one was just as cool as the next. Pricing wise, as good as anybody in the city. Very competitive.
